"Sharing migrants" across the EU is a strange concept, the people who arrive do not want to live in Central European nations that do not have generous welfare and have lower wages. They want to go to the highest developed lands. How do you want to trap them in Slovakia, Poland or Estonia so they do not move along Schengen to Germany, Denmark or France where they want to be? You should also see that Central European states do not say they don't want migrants, in fact there is a lot of migration there in the last couple of years. They do not want migrants who will change or hate local culture, and they want to vet people who move there. Is the EU failing migrants? The EU would be better served focusing on the needs and problems of the citizens and the people who are already here.
The NGOs encourage people to make dangerous, illegal journeys and crossings into Europe. Law and order are paramount in Europe. It is a crime to encourage unvetted people to come. There have to be laws to make the NGOs to act legally and stop enticing unemployable people to come. Import third world > become third world. This is something that we have seen happen in practice over the last 10 years. Most migrants will never adapt to western society and will not intergrate. Studies show that most migrants from poor non-european backgrounds are a net loss for the economy and only put more strain on social services. Europe really only has two choices: - Close down its borders and set up very high standards for legal immigration, such as needing to be university educated before coming in - Allow a higher level of immigration but have every nation state dismantle their social state. Similar to the US, no free healthcare, no unemployment, no free education etc.

It states that EU immigrants are a net benefit and non-EU immigrant COULD be a benefit if they get better access to the labor market. This means if the goverment invest even more money into them they maybe become a net gain. But honestly how are you gonna tell a population that can't afford housing and having kids to invest in non-EU immigrants. Worker shortages can happen in specific sectors but not in others. For example, many countries have a shortage of care workers and nurses. Which sector do you work in?

Sounds to me that this Italian ngo woman is really describing those that arrive here irregularly, as economic migrants. That's what I believe the majority are... Not genuinely seeking asylum but using it as a guise to forcefully enter a country for the purpose of bettering their lives. This is abuse of the asylum system and why people are tired with it. I notice in Ireland, our political class deliberately conflate migrants and asylum seekers as a way of dismissing the locals concerns. We are being swamped with economic migrants entering under the guise of seeking asylum here in Ireland with over 80% last year, entering our state with no documents after disembarking their flights. They are deliberately destroying their own documents and therefore the barriers to getting into the work sector are self created, although here in Ireland there are more social security numbers given out to asylum seekers than actual people entering the workforce. The remainder are on welfare. We have an opt out on migration under the Lisbon treaty and I certainly hope we opt out.

If Europe needs workers to fill labor gaps and pay into the social security system, there are millions of ethnic Italians and Germans in South America, descendants of immigrants who left these countries many decades ago. Germany and Italy should recruit and encourage these people to come over. This way they get the workers they 'need' while preserving their culture. I saw a report where a hospital in Sicily was about to close, so they brought over doctors from Argentina (ethnicly Italian) and now the hospital was able to stay open. It was in a small town, so a very positive outcome. Europeans, dont feel guilty for wanting to preserve your country and culture.

Enforced integration for everyone in the country already. If you didn't immigrate for work - forced to learn a local language, successfully finish an integration course, get a job. These people are assuming that Europeans are required to take anyone who comes to our shores. Europe is not just a land mass. We have cultures to protect.
The simple fix for funding issues? Fairly tax the rich! If billionaires paid the same 32% in taxes, Europe could easily house, educate, and support migrants. But the 1% don't want this truth out, so they fight it hard. Despite rising GDPs and Europe becoming a massive market, most people haven't seen their lives improve. The real culprit? Growing wealth disparity, both in Europe and worldwide.
I am half German and probably disconnected as I do not live there, but it seriously does my head in the obsession with qualifications in Germany! Yes you need skilled workers. But there are also lots of other types of jobs, especially that have huge need skilled and less skilled. The system is very rigid in Germany (unlike for example USA or UK) which means that you need to be specifically educated in what you work in.. This has advantages in getting highly educated people in positions, but the disadvantage that the system seriously lacks flexibility and room for change. For example even with my UK degree in the ARTs , I would likely not be able to get a good job without a masters and I would not be able to work in the fields I worked in in the UK. I think the system in Germany creates a very limited perception of things and not very interdisciplinary...:-/ Even my mother who IS GERMAN Was not able to return to Germany because with her qualifications (unviersity degree) she could not get a decent job there. So I cannot imagine what it would be like for any migrant who may be less qualified. I do not agree fully with the German guy. Yes they need to be able to integrate and communicate but what about - labour work - practical work - art /crafts work Does NOT require a particular degree etc.. the issue is in Germany often it does so you cannot create an EU system if there are different labour/work requirements in each country.
I believe that immigration is valuable, but it must be legal. Illegal immigration is problematic on many levels. The Western world should reconsider sending aid money without ensuring genuine progress. While the intention to help is good, merely sending money isn't a solution. People from these countries are resilient; if they can journey to Europe, they can work hard and succeed in their own countries. Instead of financial aid, the EU should focus on providing knowledge and economic partnerships. Illegal immigration should be firmly discouraged.

Which country are you referring to? There have been many studies about the economic impact of immigration and many show immigrants can make a financial contribution to their new country. Why all this talking and no ideas of how to do this? Where are the proposals? -Get a trades list -split the people up into different groups and get a skilled trades person to then teach these people a trade job, while learning the language of the country, send a translator to each group. -send someone from the immigration department to document them, finger prints, photos, and get them temporary Trade ID from this program. Each month, send an inspector to get a progress report. This will then get them at least a job in the trade sector once they graduate from this program. Everyone should put forth a proposal and which ever proposal gets the most votes should be implemented.
How do you want to teach a person anything, who never went to school? They are unable to sit still for 30 minutes, they can concentrate an hour daily maximum. Look, normal Europeans spend on average 60.000 hours at school. There is no way to catch this up as an adult.

More immigration is needed because we have to much debt to pay. Less people/more debt -> do the math. Furthermore, we can't teach a chicken to pie because they can't. But we are trying to integrate a certain group of people that do not fit the western way of thinking (I saw the same issue in Canada).

It's hard to have a humanistic view on issues when the vast majority of politicians come from academic sectors that usually do not derive their practices from human behaviour and rational. Lawyers and financial advisors, it turns out, are not the best educations to create sensible policy. Instead it leads to people like Lukas, basing their entire arguments on e.g. crime statistics without acknowledging the inhumane treatment we have put these offenders through before they decided to turn away from law obedience.

Paratha is an Indian flatbread and the style of making was malaysian in the use of sugar and condensed milk. I went to America to meet certain relatives of mine and realized my cousin had nothing Indian or Thai to him barring his name. He is a 2nd gen immigrant from singapore to America. If singapore and America can do it, most countries in the Schengen can. It will take time and effort but it will happen.

@@enentr When I was at school it thought me that solving a problem can only be done by one way but when I proved that solving the problem had multiple ways they punished me for not using the right way. Because it was an catholic school it taught me religion which I founded a waste of my time for I'm not an religious person. Personally schools should focus on how to deal with problems inside an society instead telling us that gaining an diplomacy is the only way in life while I succeeded to get one many jobs with my studies couldn't accept me for having no space while my job now I never needed an diplomacy but I make enough to be healthy, fed well, owning an home and stuff & the job I do is working in the trash making sure the streets are clean & recycling the incoming trash to lower the factories production costs.
Very interesting debate, although I wish that there was more vision on the pro migration side. I live in northern Sweden and it’s really empty here. We could use a lot more migrants to help the local economy and reach a higher potential as a society. So if no one else wants them, send them here!
The logic should be pretty simple: If you have spare capacity in the immigration system, increase immigration(if it makes sense to do so, see economic needs and humanitarian duties) If the flow of immigrants is sufficient to satisfy those aspects but immigration is failing, increase the opportunities for immigration. Merkel in Germany 2015 for example. She acted with compassion to a humanitarian crisis. But instead of just issuing refugee status to millions, she simultaneously drastically pushed for integration centers and the result is that today, many of those that came into the country back then are now fully integrated or have returned to their countries of origin due to Improving security and stability. The mistake germany did and to an extent the EU as a whole was to shut these facilities back down and build them back completely. The next crisis In the continents surrounding the EU was always gonna come. Now we have to start that whole build up process again, with the difference that today's political landscape has shifted to the right and even less polarising parties such as Merkels CDU are now adopting the irrational anti immigration stance of the extreme right.
I am a European. My country have a zero capacity for migrants and zero migrants. My resources are not theirs. I don't have any responsibilities to the migrants. Some societies are giving money, my not😀

As much as I love being a European I must laugh about the naive mindset. I also have my roots in the Middle East and I wish Europeans would dig deeper into the Religion which is highly influencing the behavior as results from their values. It will explain where the extreme violence and entitlement comes from and what their long term goals are. I wish Europeans would start to do their homework because this is a heavy matter. There is a difference when you try your integrate let’s say Vietnamese who have values of harmony and hard people or if you try to integrate Muslims with completely opposite values. As long as we have this academic laziness we will never understand why our efforts and hopes to integrate or at least civilize them are shattered.
