Is the French army the last line of defence against jihadists in Sahel region? 

Just look how many of our cities and towns in Tennessee contain the word "ville" in their name. It was done purposefully that way to honor the French and their invaluable contribution to helping us win the American Revolution. So again I say, "VIVE LA FRANCE!"

Yeah it’s sad everyone is adopting the M4. A lot of countries had a distinctive service rifle but dropped it to follow what Americans use. Even the SAS dropped their bullpup in favor of an M4 variant :(

Only France (5100 men + jets, choppers and drones), the UK (60 men and 3 choppers) and Estonia (150 men) have combat missions there as of today. Although they will soon be joined by around 3 or 4 hundred Danes, Swedes and Czechs. The other european troops (germans etc) only have a training and logistics mandate and are stationed in the southern part of the country. There are a lot of different missions in Mali & the Sahel: - Barkhane (France, UK and Estonia, soon Denmark, Czech republic and Sweden): french-led anti-terror mission - G5 Sahel (Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad) -> cross-border local anti-terror mission - MINUSMA (Bangladesh, Senegal, China and some more) -> UN Peacekeeping mission (can not fire unless fired at) - European training mission (Germany, UK, Spain): stationed in the southern part of the country, occasionally also provides air recon/escort for MINUSMA and medical assistance for MINUSMA/Barkhane - US Training mission + drone recon in Mali and Niger A big shout out to the estonians by the way, they are contributing more and taking more risks than many big european countries.

@rdokoye France only has 3000 soldiers over multiple countries in Sahel so of course they can only do so much. That's why they do precise and specific operations as well as training African soldiers and giving them equipment.

France have interests. -DAESH is our enemy and Mali is just in North Africa in thé suburbs of South Europe. -We have militaty agreements with Mali or Chad or Burkina Fasso. -Those countries was part of french empire or colonies in thé past and where people speak french. But malian gold is for anglo saxons enterprises and there is petrol in North est of Mali but in a désert where nobody wants to go except jihadists and french military.

French aren't american's. They came there because Mali officially asked for in 2013. And if you really want to find some french interests, there are some uranium mines, and so they are blocking the creation of a international black market of uranium
