Surprised at the amount of tonal difference between the 57 and 50s. Would've expected those 2 in particular to be a little closer. A very useful video, like usual, thanks!
The Modern and Modern Lite are what turned me off of Gibson USA, actually. Got me into the Custom Shop Historics. It’s unlikely that I will rent one but it’s always a possibility. Cheers -Ryan
@@Crypticmaskguitar Thanks for responding. I'm trying to find the most versatile Gibson available and I'm debating between the classic and the modern studio, what do you think? I've been playing for about a year and I have a good budget for a Gibson because I worked all summer.
If you like Gibson’s push/pull then either of them would be considered versatile. The decision between the Classic and the Modern Studio would be the finish and the weight. You will feel the low end of the Modern Studio in your body more because it has a satin finish and has ultra modern weight relief (it’ll be light as well), whereas the Classic has 9 hole weight relief and uses heavier stock mahogany… it will be heavier and give you a lot more presence (mids/highs) in your body when playing. I have always preferred the feel from non-weight relived High Gloss Nitro as it has a nicer balance in the feel when you play. What often happens with satin nitro guitars is they use maple necks to offset the lack of presence in comparison to the gloss nitro stuff. That isn’t the case for the Modern Studio, but some people don’t like the snappy feel of maple necks. Best thing to do would be to try them both back to back on multiple occasions until one speaks to you more than the other. Cheers -Ryan
