This rewind Wednesday we take a dive into the General Motors 6.0L Vortec motor that has been around since 2001. It's always fun to go back in time and take a look at the cars and trucks that are rarely talked about anyjmore. The demo was a 2008 GMC 2500HD with the 6.0 vortec motor! Thanks for stopping by. #gmc #rewindwednesday

Mine has 300k and , I was told lifters were bad on it and some guy from Mexico told me that was a lie , he change the exhaust bolts in both sides , exhaust manifold bolts brake and cause a tik tik tik noise. Once he change those bolts my engine sound so healthy and run a lot more efficient. No more noise from the engine , strong engine, extremely reliable.

2003 GMC Yukon Denali, the LQ4. Bought it, can’t remember exactly.. 2012? Previous owner bought it brand new and his teenage daughter learned to drive with it. Currently 197k miles, exactly 0 engine issues, reg maintenance and only replacing worn components that can’t outlive the motor over the years. My dad is old school muscle car guy, and he’s impressed with the tuning of the engine. Flooring it pushes you back in your seat, and its my daily driver not even joking. Love that thing. Plan to add a sloppy stage 2 cam kit, TBSS intake and stall converter, but hesitant.. afraid to mess with perfection.

I have an 08 Silverado LTZ 2500 HD that now has 220,000 miles on it and is still runs so incredibly strong you would not believe that Engine has gone that many miles and a lot of hard miles pulling big heavy trailers and this thing still starts up and you could pull a house with it, It’s The best vehicle purchase I’ve ever made. I change the oil every 4/5000 miles I have done the spark plugs and wires three times and the coil packs once . This truck has the six speed automatic transmission with the trailer hauling package so you can really pull a lot with it. I never envisioned that I would still be driving it and still doing the same stuff with it 12 years after I bought it. I feel like this truck has many more years left.

I talked to GM owners on the road. The company's that run the 6.0 1999-2006 that use them for escort agency(pilot vehicles) are getting 500K before rebuilding. My 05 just hit 100K averages 8-10 MPG Towing 10,000-20,000 I never thought it would hold up. I was going to get a Duramax but other "wrench heads" I know said that you Under estimated that 6.0 😀 I will do research to find out how to configure a Towing upgrade( cam or something) I plan on keeping this 05 till it is unroad worthy. Square bodies are still Working SO I guess will also. 🇺🇸👍

Stock muffler right now that sounds really nice but I am waiting on my new Spintech stainless muffler to come in. Dyno tuned. Has 400 HP to the wheels. Opening up the electric dump adds 7 extra horsepower. I don't need anymore horsepower but it's just a toy for me so have been thinking real hard about a supercharger!!! They claim the motor can handle 750 to 800 HP. We shall see!😁

Just picked up a super clean rust free 2004 Silverado crew cab 2500 6.0 about 3 months ago with only 143k miles on it. Runs like brand new still. I’m seeing how many miles people get out of their 6.0 and it looks like mines got plenty of life left still.

Where I work. We own 95% Chevy trucks with the 6.0. They daily lawn care trailers, excavators, dozers and skidloaders, stonecrete filled dump trailers, dirt filled dump trailers. Basically just all the heavy lifting a lawn care and landscaping company would do. The most of them have over 200k miles still running strong. Actually buying a 6.0 to cam, do headwork and supercharge and throw it in my lexus is300 because my boss has had a 6.0 out of a 99 Silverado with decently low miles just sitting in a barn for over 10 years. I want to buy it from him and since its already just a complete motor, I want to get it all cleaned up, buy all new external parts, replace seals, get better (lighter heads) and make em capable of a bit of power and cam the motor also before putting it in the car. Will worry bout a supercharger a lil on down the road unless I get a really good deal for one. I want to be around 550-600hp. Want to spend 10k total on project which includes what I paid for my car, if I can get this 6.0 from my boss super cheap I could have it built minus the supercharger for under $1000, leaves me a bit of room for the supercharger and trans.
@Cody_Reed
@Cody_Reed 5 лет назад
Freaking project there man, you will have to keep me updated on the process would love to follow along. These motors are horses, and parts are cheap you should be able to knock that out. Again, keep me updated would be interested in following your jiurneyc

@@Cody_Reed I have been really considering picking up a nice camera to get the whole process on film. My biggest fear about that would be sounding like an idiot but with my dads knowledge mixed with my ability to research and figure things out should mix well I hope. I hope to get an answer from my boss on the 6.0 within a week or so. The sooner I get it in my garage the sooner I can start cleaning it up and buying parts for it to get it prepped. I will absolutely try to keep you updated as things comes together. Right now I am just waiting for the boss to tell us its go time for the year. I get layed off but plow snow in winter. Do 12 hours a day 5 days a week of Lawncare in spring summer fall and not all the snow has melted 100% yet. Hopefully it wont be too long before work starts up again though. While I am building the motor I will also be doing things to the car like weight reduction stuff, suspension work and overall just stuff that will not have to be redone when I do the swap. Figure if I get a camera that would be decent content to hold over the gaps between getting the engine build filmed and put together. Think that would be something people would like? I know people like VTBOBBY(he is really the only one i can name off the top of my head other than MoreSkidz but they dont have a Lexus IS300 anymore).. Who do pretty intensive videos about his IS300, He has brought the car from a near parts car into a really clean 1jz-gte and w55 trans swap. But I havent seen anybody really do that stuff for a ls swap for the Lexus(and i think it would benefit alot of people). Especially from the moment they get the motor and start with cleaning.

I wouldn’t worry about sounding like an idiot, some people will hate it and others will love it. You will do it because you love the project and like helping people through their own projects. I think it’s a great idea!!

I got an 02 Cadillac EXT 6.0L V-8. It purrs like giant kitten still. still no major issues. Was just thinking about doing some (maintained) like for fun over haul it just to get another 400k plus out of it. Replacing a truck for no reason isn't my thing. So costly to replace a drive train that still works great and body is still no rust, and especially if your frame is still tough You don't throw away a good truck lol. I actually like my old engine :)

I always told my buddies if you ain't towing over 9000lbs then you dont need a diesel. Gas and diesel they both got they prons and cons but for me the 6.0 vortec is been a bulletproof engine. First 6.0 I had was 2002 Silverado 2500hd still running strong has 265k. Second was my 2007 Silverado 3500hd with a 6.0 thing never gave me problems lost her at 102k due to an accident stupid drivers. My 3rd 6.0 is a 2013 gmc sierra 2500hd beast of a truck has over 200k already and my newest is a 2016 Silverado 2500hd. Gas mileage is poor I agree but come with a great sacrifice of avoiding a diesel engine. I had a couple of diesels and when they break down cost me a pretty penny and take long to repair.

I run a 2005 6.0 and a 2005 Ford 5.4 SD for my lawn and home care business. The truck has more rust than I would like but the engine/trans are great. Our day to day load is a 3500lb mowing trailer and we rent a 6,000lb wood chipper several times a year. No crazy weights to move but we work in the mountains and deal with steep grades on almost the daily. The 6.0 is better than the 5.4 but both dinosaurs get it done. Our trucks don’t see thruway speeds, typically 45-55mph zones max. In these conditions we have no need for a diesel, we have only wants for a newer gasser
