After doing extensive research on the most ethical elephant sanctuaries in Phuket, we decided on the Green Elephant Sanctuary Park. It was important for us to have Derrick and Dustin experience up close and personal, the Asian Elephants, while also being conscious and aware about the differences between ethical and unethical institutions that care for these beloved mammals. We taught them about how elephants were used by circuses and roadside zoos for profit and entertainment. Workers would beat, shock, and whip them until they learned to perform tricks that have no connection to their natural instincts and behavior. These acts were performed repeatedly until their spirits were broken.
The Green Elephant Sanctuary Park allows guests to experience elephants in the most natural way. While in their natural environment, guests are able to feed, rub mud, and bathe the elephants. It was such an wonderful experience and we highly recommend this place to anyone interested while in Phuket, Thailand.
