They launched a new Mako III and Mako chronograph recently, so any new release may take time. I have a wonderful Kamasu II and i don't complain at the size in my skinny wrist, but i wholeheartedly believe that any move towards a smaller case is good - specially considering that Orient offers better specifications than Seiko at the Kamasu's price point.

The SKX has it shortcomings (no hacking and handwinding) but it surely is a very tough watch. I have taken mine from freezing cold directly to a hot sauna, and this does not affect it a bit. Once I fell down the stairs and broke my arm, but the SKX did not mind it at all. No other watch has given me such a pleasure for so little money.

Thanks for this video. I have been waiting for these watches to become available here in the U.S. since they've been showing up on various watch sites. I have about 10 black dial drivers, so that "champagne" face model caught my eye, at least from the way it looks on screens. I still plan to buy one as soon as they show up on the big A site. I have maybe 15 Seikos all with the standard crystal and not one of them have a single blemish from normal day-to-day wear. @Sui-Beam ikr I got a Seiko 5 with the 4R, but was let down over time by the inconsistency and accuracy, I also got a mechanical Laco with a miyota and a Tissot too that are much more accuracs, and they are great. But when I got my solar diver, it kinda just took over. I us it night and day and kept it on most of the time since I got it, a few months back. Kept it on everything from rubber, silicon, leather, and now some cheap, really comfortable elastic nato style strap. I just refuse to take it off now. It's also been consistent at +1s/month. Would probably have been too biast towards it being a quartz at the price, with having listened too much to others, if I didn't see it in person. Tryed it on and then had a few rounds with myself until I bought it the day after. It's all I want in a watch I've found. So I don't even feel like buying any more watches. I just want to wear my solar diver and Laco in the winter :D It's hard to beat a watch so comfortable it's more comfortable than having no watch on.

@turbyoulance. Is that really a serious question. I will treat it as one. The rotating bezel is particularly useful for me. For a start I use it at Sailability where we take disabled people for a sail for 40 minutes. I set the bezel so I know what time I am due back at the dock. I also use it if I am on a parking meter and there are many other uses. Originally the bezel was used by divers to keep track of time, oxygen being a limited supply. Very few people use bezels for diving these days.

Seems like Seiko just want to protect their margins across the range. We all now have an idea how little sapphire costs and in the volumes Seiko make these watches a screw down signed crown would cost a couple of $ max. They just want to give buyers a reason to feel good about paying $750 ot $1500 for a Seiko.... As if we all aren't well aware of the irrational value decisions we make on most purchases. That said my first "real watch" as a late teen who messed with motorbikes was a Seiko so of course i ruined it but my Seiko Monster (almost. 20 now) will stay with me forever and would get any repairs or replacement movement it needed.

Hollow end links and folded links at this price point is crazy. I've owned enough Seikos to know it's probably comfortable enough, but i also know they feel tinny and cheap. I think Seiko could do better.

Just snagged the black one for $260 USD as my new daily. It basically ticks all my boxes for what I want out of a daily auto (minus the sapphire crystal) in my preferred size of watch. Very excited to receive it.

Why the heck aren't you getting a kickback? You're selling their watch. Which SRPE 2-tone do you have? That looks great. Seiko has raised their prices, and it seems to be based on the rise in quality of their 5s, which makes sense.

That price requires sapphire, though.

Thanks for the review. Bit pricey for what you get. I'd rather pay more and get an Astron (and I did as I own an Astron).

i bought this watch as preorder for $275, i understand it has flaws but i do plan on tinkering with it and changing the hands to silver ones. there is something about this dial that calls out to me and i just couldnt resist

It will quite obviously be at least as cheap as the bigger one in due course. Maybe even less, as the demand is likely to be lower.

Really good offering from Seiko, definitely catering for all wrist sizes. I would definitely would wait a couple of month, and for sure will throw out that bracelet.

I'm honored to make the 100th comment today due to a bout of sleeplessness here on the eastern seaboard of the US! Is this watch worth buying? The funny thing about this rabbit hole is that there are always going to be some of us who think so, and some not! However, certainly the sizing is interesting and will appeal to those with smaller wrists among us.

Mineral crystal, rubbish bracelet, rubbish clasp, push pull crown, and an average movement. Looks nice, but like most Seikos it is overpriced, NO, very overpriced

495 for a dressed up and down Seiko sport watch? I’ll pass, or rather wait until the pricing is sane enough to make the purchase. Great review once again.

300 bucks, no sapphire, hollow end links, cheap pressed clasp, mismatched hands, dive “style”. Should be delivered by someone in a mask with a sawn off under his arm. This one is for the general public not collectors.

I think the newer Seikos are just over priced for the spec. I've got my Helm Ti Vanuatu coming for similar money.

Jeez, Seiko, just re-release the SNK809 with 4R36 (but the same white-on-black day/date disc and the same dimensions) and sapphire, and that's it. No need to invent those horrible hybrids.

Let's be honest, it's over and out for Seiko. Compare this to any San Martin, any Sugess, any Seestern, any Chronos, all much cheaper and all much much better. And this watch is probably made of parts coming from the same factories as well. Bye, bye Seiko. You have to up your game.

To the people writing that Seiko is pointless when there are so many super micro brands with the same price but better specifications. Where do you guys find these micro brands? The Seiko from the video is priced at $300, and in a month's time you'll buy it in stores for $200. Microbrands rarely cost under 300, and more and more are starting to price at $399, and there you usually won't get any discount. Maybe a code for 10%. In addition, when a seiko breaks down you send it back to a national service center. When something micro breaks you send it back to the other side of the world for half the price of the watch. Seiko has some overpriced models, but looking at just 5 sports is a good deal considering their real price in stores.

In 1993 I bought 200m, Hardlex glass,Pepsi Skx on solid, metal bracelet for $106. Monthly pay was ,on average $2500. Today, this lack luster piece from Seiko calls for $500 while wages average $5000. Definitely not worth it!

Seiko just no longer represent bang for buck. My SARB017 Alpinist was only £290 when I bought it... The SARB065 Cocktail was a bit less. Both were brand new at the time. The Alpinist has just about doubled (sometimes a fair bit more )and the Cocktail time has held its value (sometimes a bit more). I never bought the watches as investments, but I think it shows how much of a bargain the SARB range was. Especially compared to current offerings. I don't see any of the current Seiko offerings coming close to those two regarding value for money. I think I am done with new Seikos. I'll stick to picking up old and vintage ones going forward.

Unimpressive specs, to put it mildly. You're paying a lot of money for a "diver-style" watch, just to get "Seiko" on the dial. If you're into the downmarket version of Rolex syndrome, go for it, but there are much better watches to be had for this kind of money. You can get AR sapphire crystal, 200m water resistance, and screw-down crowns for under $500 these days. Check out Islander's offerings, for starters. I'm looking at Maen's Hudson, which is only $337 for the quartz model and has killer specs.
