I had no idea how to explode it without attacking it. I already felt like IG was REALLY good in the demo but oh my god looking at those numbers this is insane!

I didn't even realize we had been given a dust kinsect... I just assumed it was a sped up basic kinsect and wasn't using it except to gather extracts. I loved the powder bugs in world though so going to really enjoy this now :)

I really had fun using the new exploding extract attack, also the reason why I beat Malzeno Though in multiplayer trying to leave behind a bunch of extracts around is kinda tricky since your party members can indeed attack the extract powders and make them detonate prematurely, only dealing small amounts of damage. So it's only really good to use it when you have at least another IG teammate doing the same thing.

Fixed damage was always the best in mh demos, but still looking forward how this ends up in the final game.

I have been a bugstick main since I fell in love with it in 4U (minus GU where I was a Prowler main and ZERO REGRETS). Thank you for this clear and easy to understand tutorial! I have been running dual-extract Kinsects in Rise but the lure of EXPLOSIONS is strong. I am going to go try this out right now! I just unlocked the new Kinsect types in Sunbreak!

Even if they nerf this by half, this would still be a HUGE burst damage skill. I'm excited seeing that they are going wild with the skills this go round

Glad I recently took the time to learn IG, when I used it in the demo even the relatively consistent 500-600 damage on the Vortex seemed insane, and I wasn't even using the marking system, that was just off Kinsect Yeet, which might I add feels incredibly weak, especially for that kind of wind-up animation.

Man, thanks for this! I heard people talking about the vortex, but I never thought to look up how to trigger it... That being said, I hate X+A inputs, and now it's really easy to get this mixed up with ZL+X+A...

As fun as this looks and maybe has huge damage potential,i still prefere the Carnage Beetle. Getting to all buffs quickly and being assisted durring attacks with KO and exhaust damage is just too confy for me to give up on.

Wait I didn't know about the powder detonation.... That changes everything. The damage output seems too good though, hate to say this but I think it's gonna get nerfed a bit. Still, its an amazing addition. Maybe the good ol' MH4 days when IG reigned supreme is coming back...

As an Insect Glaive/Gunlance dual main, these numbers are glorious to see. NGL, I thought the new Alucanid would end up meta because of the triple dust you can walk through, but with those numbers? Bilbobrix might be holding that old throne with an iron feeler. And the effect is amplified the more bugs are around...that's amazing. Can't wait to actually try the other bugs! Also who knows, maybe the Triple Up Dust can also be detonated?

I am loving the SnS, Gunlance and the Lance! Perhaps i'll give IG a try as well in Sunbreak

I'm a lightbowgun main who also uses Sword and shield. However I've been dabbling a bit in insect glaive and... I don't hate anything about it. I'm especially loving the out of battle movement you can get with this thing. This is old news but you can essentially stay off the ground forever with all the silkbind, jumps and wall clings you can use. The Wirebugs recharge when clinging to walls just somehow making it better. It also doesn't hurt that it if anything FEELS faster then traveling through normal means.

Thanks for this. I really didn't like the new Silkbind, but after seeing this it just didn't fit my playstyle. I'll definitely be going back in and tweaking my style to try and fit these moves better.

If you are solo the exploding bug fart is less of a damage gain and more of a thing you might do if you end up with a lot of it from normal play. It's only really this insane when stacked with other IG users.

I wish I had known about detonating. I saw the twitter post for the kinsect bonuses and that was the one I was most interested in. and those numbers too wow!

the kinsect is really the star of this weapon, so kinsect skills and ability need to be put forefront

I hope capcom does not nerf the numbers in the full release. Reason being is that it is the prime incentive and competitor against the assist and speed type bugs. Let me explain: Between powder and assist, assist is more used to deal consistent damage throughout the hunt and potentially stun the monster if it's a blunt type. This has the benefit of additional tacked on damage that racks up over time to deal as much damage as the powder vortex if you're aggressive enough and can set up good positioning. Powder types had no real or consistent way to damage the enemy before, and the dust explosions always dealt low damage. Powder vortex fixes this by allowing all the inconsistent dust placed everywhere to go be concentrated degree. However, the flaw is (albeit contradictory) it's still inconsistent in dealing the big damage we see in the video when solo glaiving or as the only glaive user in a multiplayer hunt. The monster moves around a lot, and the kinsect chases the monster down to hit and place powder. Against a high mobility elder dragon like malzeno I can't reach these super high numbers typically mid fight even if it downed (at most like maybe 200 average and 500 if I'm lucky at the dust placement), this is because the powder is still sporadically placed and can be accidentally detonated by hitting it mid air thus reducing the amount of powder pulled in. Despite the giant radius of the powder vortex to pull it all in, it also takes a bit of time to detonate once gathered which can make the concentrated powder miss if the monster moves. The high damage it does is necessary to keep a sense of balance in the game to help boost the glaives damage output so it's not left behind from the rest of the weapons, this doesn't mean it should be the best of the best, but it should be able to keep up with the others dps with what the glaive has using this high risk high reward ability that can help diversify and improve the glaive without outclassing the rest of the cast to give the game more fluidity in fights that take place in and out of multiplayer. Speed kinsects have yet to be seen in how much they can do, but I believe the capcom team can make it on par with assist and powder in the damage it does so it doesn't get left behind. Also if someone tries to argue diving wyvern should be it's main high end dmg, the issue with that it is a bit inconsistent to reach its highest damage, it's also boring to always use which nips the creativity hunters can have, and can jeopardize you if you use it wrong as it has no safety net compared to the other weapons. These points on diving wyvern at first glance sounds bs, but if you play glaive long enough you know diving wyvern is fun, but a bit too risky to use in every situation. I really like that move, especially when I'm using ailments like blast or paralysis. In MHW, my blast dust are everyhwere and I love the explosions when I do the aerials.

So far I think the hammer maybe is the most fun weapon to use in Demo. As for what to main, I have a feeling it will be DB, Lance and possibly hammer. Usually I only have two mains, but since rise, it became three.

I didn’t use powder much in base rise because I missed how you would mark the monster in iceborne with the dive there and I really like assist kinsects but realising this is in the demo may make me rethink powder times with how strong they now seem to be

I loved charge blade in MHW but since I played Rise Hunting Horn as become my favorite weapon to play. Even when I returned to MHW to play with friends I loved HH. My only wish would be for the horn to have a more defensive option

Been maining IG since 4U and havnt looked back, I honestly think it's a breath of fresh air, the kinsect aspect of the insect glaive has always been lacking imo and these added bonuses from sunbreak gives us alot of options depending on the playstyle you want. As for the Powder Vortex, payoff seems balanced considering the setup/management involved and the damage should be beefy considering how strong the assist kinsects are for consistent damage. Another thing I didn't see touched on is that the explosion is also an aoe heal, it can very easily full heal those in the area so it has some nice utility there

Good for my brother who started with MH4U and fell in love with IG. I hope he enjoys the expansion, me as a CB however will switch to another weapon and have fun regardless.

The powder nuke is interesting. Using it solo (against new monsters, for me) its not as easy as it looks but in a group setting, its enough that you could cheese the whole hunt with just spitballs and dust. Vs Malzeno I've taken to using my normal style Leaping/Tornado/Dive and trying to mix in marking hits here and there. Malz has dodged the vortex explosion a few times and popped all the dust on the field,at range, a few times more. but like two marking swings and a couple combos is enough dust for close to 500 dmg without explosion procs. It has some serious cheese potential but only if you know the fight really well or have a lot of distractions/meatshields.

That gathering dust powder skill is really helpful if the monster is struggling on the ground trying to get up.

It would probably be too strong but I’m so sad that awakened kinsect attack and diving wyvern have to compete. Imagine launching your kinsect, then yourself then diving down to spike the monster.

As IG main, I can only laugh in the background with those improvements..XD

This ability make me want to play IG again. I stop using IG since MHrise because the ground damage has been nerfed a lot, but with this, I can keep playing ground attack style and do burst damage with the power.

So you'd wanna use awakened kinsect attack a bunch so you get a lot of dust clouds. Then use the detonation ability to make them explode? How can you tell when a dust cloud is about to expire though?

When I saw the damage on this in the demo, I almost dropped my switch and had to do a double-take. In the demo, it's 100% busted and I love it soooo much!

I'm so conflicted. The switch skill swap mechanic makes playing the SnS feel even better than it did before, the new LS moves are tempting since it was always my main, and the IG's new stuff just makes me want to play that again too! Forget using one weapon the entire time, I'm gonna have a field day maining all of them!

I love awakened kinsect slash, i beat malzeno with it, its also a handy evasive move it only cost one bug and it comes back fairly fast

Wherever the Kinsect is where the powder vortex spawns you can technically pull powders to a different area of the fight

Not gonna lie this is the next thing to cheese thru sunbreak . You're just effortlessly sent the bug , let it fart some dust , detonate it , and repeat . May take some time to clear a quest but its the safest way to deal big damage 😂

after a bit testing i will say no but i think they will adjust the dmg a little bit. i mean even after a normal testraseal combo you can do 230 dmg through powder explosion alone. the dmg is good but i would say its not that overpowered, look at the greatsword with true charged slash, or the dps of Dual Blades. Even SnS with Metsu can do incredible dmg, i think charge Blade with Phiol unload do the same dmg?(idk im not a CB player but they have juicy numbers).

i wonder if this vortex move will work with other kinsect types, or if they'll add new kinsects with mixed abilities. I really like the convenience of the duel essence assist kinsects, but might have to switch over to powder if the new damage output of them makes everything else obsolete.

If this is only demo IG, think about the actual numbers in-game? If it reaches 200 to 500 here, more or less 1K + either they’ll tweak it somehow or…we need those big numbers for stronger battles 😵😵😵

Easily one of the greatest improvements to the weapon yet! I used to play it in base MH:W but fell off of it in rise. But man did this not bring back the love for it!!

The IG is my favorite in rise. I only used the HH bc its burst dps is better. So if IG got stronger that's gonna be my main

You know, hearing you talk about the IG at the start of the video, where you said you really like the aerial stuff that weapon does, I had hoped the IG would get some buffs regarding its aerial combat. Watching you play here however...meh. Yes, the damage is awesome, but you're basically just playing a ranged weapon now. Don't get me wrong, I like the fact we have access to this more Kinsect focused playstyle now, that at the same time also gives you access to good ranged damage, but I had just hoped for more air stuff.

Them bringing more to aerial glaive is cool and all but personally I never had an issue with how Glaive felt in the air, rather I always find grounded glaive to be underwhelming in Rise. Sure you can argue that if I want a grounded weapon then I shouldn't play Glaive but in World I liked Glaive cause while aerial glaive was more flashy and better for evasion, glaive on the ground had more damage and the moveset felt just as satisfying. Now I played Rise before I ever played World, and that was where I first used and found I enjoyed glaive, but when I later moved to play World on pc while I waited for Rise's pc release I found that glaive in World felt even better because the grounded fighting felt better comparatively and it's aerial capability made is stand out among the other weapons, which is less special in Rise cause everyone can fly anyway. I also still feel it's a total rip that the fast bugs in rise don't have powder while the ones in World at least had blast or heal, cause I know I should be using the bugs with powder but you could write patchnotes detailing the buffs glaive should get in the time it takes to get all three of my extracts on a 5 speed bug.

The demo has me divided from my gen 4 main (the glaive) and my current main (CB). I might have to just run both

I like more ranged abilities for glaive... especially anything that uses the Kinsect

You know, all things said, I’m considering maining lance in sunbreak. The swapping allows for switching between the shield heavy stuff, and the dash attack, and the new arial move is great for flyers and tall monsters. Might do sword and shield alternatively. I played every weapon in rise…200+ hunts with charge blade , and close to 100 on everything else.

While I am incredibly hyped about Sunbreak IG and will probably put it in my top 3 or 4 weapons, I can't help but feel like being forced into aerial after expending all your extracts is not very good. Your weapon attacks are insanely limited without the Red buff. You kind of need to aim at the head with the move to not open yourself up comletely since that will net you a red extract before landing IF you have a moderately fast kinsect that returns to you before you touch the ground. Otherwise your best follow-up will be an unbuffed Diving Wyvern. However, Rise's twitter account showed us a new type of kinsect or kinsect ability that lets you create a single dust cloud that grants all three extracts at once. I don't remember how it worked but maybe that will synergize really well, so you can expend all extracts, aim for the cloud, gain all three extracts, and continue your aerial combo. That would mean getting rid of the Vortex kinsect, though.

They did insect glaive dirty back when MH Rise came out but I kinda glad that they made some new thing for the insect

It may just be me, but when I was using Awakened Kinsect Attack with all 3 extracts active, it felt like it wasn't doing all that much damage.

Insect Glaive is now the closest you can get to being a wizard.
