Every year apple introduces a new iPhone, with the new iPhone come new anti repair tactics. My goal is to uncover any new anti repair tactics they may have instated this year. The iPhone 14 was full of surprises from start to finish, and it would be an understatement to say that I am shocked. This was quite insane.

Took the long enough to make the back glass repairable. I dont know if anyone noticed how stupid it is that you on previous models had to remove everything to swap out the thing that breaks first.

I think it's the opposite, now you have to remove the display AND the back glass to disconnect the battery. Now repairs will take almost twice as long to be performed safely :(

As a phone repair tech here, i dont know how i feel about being able to just unplug the screen flexs without unplugging the battery first, ive seen phones getting fried🤦🏽‍♂️ and to unplug the batter first its doable but just adds an extra step by having to take the back off first! But non the less great work man all this work you do is not easy and expensive! Kudos💪🏽

Honestly I’ve worked on thousands of iPhones and I’ve never seen one shorty out due to not unplugging the battery first. Not saying it doesn’t happen, but I feel they’ve added measures to prevent this from happening.

@@MrNocturnal1 I've definitely seen it happen. Definitely worth disconnecting the battery before anything else. Especially when the device is for a client and most don't have backups lets be honest. Having to open the rear also is a little annoying to do a simple screen replacement but if it means easier rear glass repairs its a good compromise IMO.

@@MrNocturnal1In my experience, the iPhone 6S were notorious for blowing out the backlight fuse if the battery wasn't unplugged first.

@@EduardoSanchez-rb9lt Depends a bit on the design of the curcuits and the pinning/design of the plugs. If you have always a hot line to the display this can happens. When you only power up the components of the display unit if needed, this shouldn`t be a big deal to make a swap with connected battery when the phone is turned off.

The Pros don’t open from the back, but since the regulars generally outsell the Pros, this is still a big win for repair, but a lot left to do for Apple.

@@thekevinager5294 That’s the thing; they’re a big company. With sales as big as theirs, it’s not hard to imagine why increments do more for their dividends than big moves. That may have been a great strategy at the start, but in a big company, it’s unwise.

So the back come off, that’s good, maybe the pros will follow suit next year.. in fact. If there’s a redesign it makes sense for the switch and they are beta testing it now… That’s some phenomenal engineering right there, from the outside the 13 and 14 are identical twins but the inside is 100% different..

I remember old good Nokia, once if You need new battery - you can pick up original one at nearest store and change in seconds (or You can have both batteries and swap it during the day - no need heavy power bank at all). Modern phones are more build complicated and also fragile due to large glass screens and panels. Not everyone can proceed with parts replacement. But at least I think, that vendor should provide original batteries and screens to open market, so anyone can fix it on his own in after warranty period. This parts should be available at least 4-5 years after release, as mostly modern phones lasts long. I have operational Moto RAZR X910, Nexus 4, MI 4, etc... all of it is operational and just need new original, good quality and safe battery.

WAIT I watched Hugh Jeffreys' video on the 14 Pro and it opens just how phones used to, I don't fully recall, but I believe the back glass on the Pro models is still adhered just as it was before.

@@perisanti7571 you clearly don’t know about repairing iPhones with oled displays. You can disconnect and reconnect the screen without disconnecting the battery. It’s bad practice but it can be done. This design solidifies that even more. You don’t need to remove the back to get a screen repair done.

I think they have flipped it for next generation when they will need better graphics and cooling for the chip Like so many android phones have a copper tube or vapour chamber for better graphics stability If they have same kind of build quality and materials to desipate heat they can be pushing their chips far more ahead and leave the compitition 2x behind

I actually preferred the design with firmly glued back glass, because i've had numerous issues with different phones of back glass separating on it's own, and now it's gonna be an issue here too. And seeing as this is a complicated module instad of a simple piece of glass, this would be really annoying and expensive to replace

it's not an issue. the back glass does not separate any more than the iPhone 4's back glass separated.

@@natayaway i'm comparing mostly to the Android phones i've had, the Samsung S7, S9 and S21 all had their back fall off, and i have had to fix it back on with some water seal *plus* double sided tape for it to stay put. I'm afraid the same thing is gonna happen here

So the reason it doesn’t work is after the repair at Apple all the parts are run through system configuration diagnostics to tell the phone it has new parts.
