Still using a slate one today as daily phone , had a 4s until a few months ago, and couldn't get anything to work anymore , so the iphone 5 it is for me , very happy with it , 4g too !
used my iphone 5 from 2012 until 2022. they shut down 3g for real in around 2021 and i used a portable modem and moved my sim over on wifi for about another year. really liked my phone so i immortalized it when i upgraded to a iphone SE 2016 last year after buying a smashed one for 5$ and reused the chassis and some other components. had to trim out a small plastic piece in the top right of the inside of the case but other than that i was very surprised everything fit. people ask me now all the time what phone i have like its new or something
I have one in 2024, it loads slighly slow, due to 1 gig of ram, but the CPU is A7 64 bit, so it functions pretty well. Having older Apps gets rid of all the Marketing crap, but still allows for Apps that are frequently used.
Before I had a iPhone I had the keyboard phone. Then in 2013 when my freind convinced me to buy a iphone, and the iPhone 5 was my first iPhone it was sooo good that it was worth it.then I only used it for 4 years. Then I got a iphone SE 1st gen in 2018 I didn't like it because it was basically the same thing like the iPhone 5. In 2020 I got my iPhone 7. IT WAS AMAZING IT HAD PERFECT SPEAKERS AND IT WAS BIGGER AND BETTER. But my iPhone 7 became old in 2024 so I brought the iPhone 13 and its amazing with louder speakers, better battery life and a bigger display and a 4x better camera
@Scoopduece you will need a sim if you want to have service and or data when you are not on Wi-Fi. Otherwise it will work fine without a SIM card if you use it as a Wi-Fi only device
the reason why your iphone 5 is slower, because its baypass/jailbreak. i have that one before , the speed is okay and not slow or even some lag , still smooth. but when i try to baypass them and jailbreak also. they start lagging and slow even i try to restart many times.
I tried to format my 5 and then update it to use it as a track lap timer. Unfortunately it gets stuck when loading. I replaced the battery that was 10 years old for nothing
Many apps on the iPhone 5 are not compatible. I did mention what IOS version is was able to run, so you can look and see what apps are compatible with that version. Different apps will be able to run on different versions. It’s hard to test all the many apps and would have quickly filled up the storage.
@@lioncurlewno, you're talking about the iPhone 5S, the first phone with Touch ID, released a year after the 5. The iPhone 5, and the 5c, are trapped on iOS 10.3.4 as their highest version, because they're the last 32-Bit iPhones.
@Gadgets-N-Gear i mean the app icons are the same, imessaging still looks the same, the entire layout of the front screen is the same, the settings app is the same im talking about the layout. Nothing has been changed other than performance but the layout has been the same since iphone 5
Well, I had the iphone 5s. That thing lasted for almost 11 years. It died not that long and apps didnt really work on it anymore. I still have it due to the fact that the phone was my first iphone that I did recieve texts on. It really is a classic. That was my main phone back in 2013, and then when I got the 6 series and 6s series, that phone went to bee my backup phone. Now I have a dead iphone 5s laying my drawer, and I am keeping it cause it is a historical phone. That phone was the first to have touch I.D. The 5 didn[t have that yet. I actually tried to revive the phone with my computer but it didn’t want to come back to live. Hahahaha. Well, I have the iphone 13 now as a backup phone. And second phone. My daily driver though is the 14 plus. She is a big girl. And the iphone 13 is so small compared to that one. Hahaha it is still a big girl but not like little miss 14. Plus. I love both the phones and it is nice to have a backup phone and secondary phone with face I.D. And all apps working. I don’t necessarly want to take my big plus out everywhere I go. She does enough with my work. I always have had that thought to have a backup phone smaller. I love the big phones though that is why my primary phone has to bee a huge phone. The 13 though has incredible battery life. It charges kind of slow though but you for sure get a nice days worth of heavy use. I didn’t even let her batttery get down to 0. By the end of the day I am at 20 or 10 percent depending what I am doing. I like using the 13 at home, and if I am just watching things on youtube. Or if I am out at a local coffee shop. If I know I am just hanging out I take the 13. I do the same thing that i would do if I had the 5s still. But if you want a great backup phone the iphone 13 is a great backup and secondary phone.
Of course it can be used in 2024- once you limit your needs and forget its "phone" origins. It will play downloaded videos and music. You can read books (on its small screen). Many word games can be downloaded for trips. This is a great BOUGHT-CHEAP lightweight, sturdy "thing" to throw in your backpack for a plane trip to give you MAYBE eight hours of amusement. And... No haptics. No special headphones/ear buds required.
Camera isn’t amazing…and I am not sure if what’s app will work or not. I would personally recommend going with something newer like the iPhone SE 2. I know that would be support what’s app, and it has a much better camera
I hate the iPhone 5! I hate it so much I want to break it so bad. It is a disgrace for Apple to make this kind of garbage. Cancel Culture needs to cancel this smartphone! Cancel the iPhone 5!
