The Jeep Cherokee XJ has always been a favorite budget off road and overland vehicle. It's only been in the last few years that their prices have started to climb, just like seemingly every used 4x4 on the market. The XJ is a totally awesome off road rig. I bought a stock one for $600.00 by accident. It ran rough, gave it a tune-up and runs like a champ. I didn't intend on keeping it. I'm over 50 and my wife and I took it for a drive in the mountains. Fell in love. I did the 4.5 inch lift myself, added 33's, replaced all the u-joints and things that might break. Added lockers and 4.56 gears. Last year we went to Moap 4 times. My son's rent 4 door Wrangles, lifted with 37's and our rid out drives them. People call XJ's cheeps not Jeeps. But that's what you have to do when a home built XJ with costing less than 9,000. Out drives your $60,000. Rubicon. XJ's are awesome. Don't believe me watch Bleeping Jeep and Busted Knockle's cheap jeep challenge.

I've got a 91 laredo with vent windows. had to replace passenger side. got the window with guide channel for 30 bucks. Held in with 3 screws. Hope ya find some, they do make a difference.

Great video. I think one appreciates one's vehicle much more if you do your own service. Another thing people must look into when going for a budget secondhand vehicle is the availability of parts. Out here if I had a jeep like that, parts would be impossible to find. The more popular the vehicle, the more parts. My discovery is not a popular vehicle out here and parts are hard to find and pricy. All in all a great video,best of luck to the young ones on their project and hope they get their side window.

Thanks Laurence! Great point on the availability of parts. There’s a lot of rigs that were never sold here, like the 70 series or Patrol, that I’ve always dreamed about having, but the realization that I’d be in the same boat as you when it comes to sourcing parts has always kept me leery of jumping into one!

Thanks, Paul! We've really been enjoying being able to connect with other people in the space lately, It's definitely something we've wanted to do for a long time and I feel really fortunate that we've now had the ability to do two back to back like this. Hopefully we can start doing some more!

Word. James and Natalie actually just celebrated their 5th wedding anniversary this past month. They are really some great people. If you haven’t, I’d strongly suggest subbing their channel. They’re still out there doing it. In fact, they added a Chevy square body build over the winter and they just went to Overland Expo West, so I expect we’ll be seeing a bunch of that content on their channel in the coming weeks.

The $2800 I paid years ago was for it bone stock and with 145,000 miles. I thought I got a good deal lol. The prices nowadays are insane compared to what I paid 😬

@@2AOverland Not saying the insurance companies are any better with scalping, but they can't give you more than 4k if it gets totaled. These outfits on ebay trying to sell them for 12k are out of their minds, but more so convincing people that they are "rare."
