When you’re born in Jefferson county one of the first shirts that will be bought for you will either be Kentucky blue, or it will be Louisville red.
You’re not given a choice who to pull for. That’s been decided before you were born.
My dad and not only raised me to pull for Kentucky fan, but to pull against Louisville.
There were times I would feel better if Louisville lost then if Kentucky won. It’s a rivalry. It’s supposed to be like that my second favorite team for many many years was whoever played Louisville.
I loved it when breaking cardinal rules came out and I made sure that I was there in front of the Yum center as the 2013 national championship banner was coming down.
It brought me so much joy to see the rival brought to its knees.
But now…I almost miss them as legitimate rivals.
You never want your rival to be good because it sucks when they are but I never knew there was an alternative. That they could be so bad that it could fall apart so drastically that you find yourself without a true rival.
I miss the hate and I miss when this game meant everything to my family, friends, this city, and the commonwealth as a whole.
To further understand what Louisville fans we’re going through and what the rivalry has become, I sit down with fans on both sides of the aisle and Louisville radio personalities in a new video below.
