I feel seduced by the new mac mini, but then I step back and think about my reality. My mac studio M1 Max from over two years ago, is an incrediable powerful machine that serves me well. I did not have a moment when I thought: "Oh Jesus, this mac needs to be replaced because it's getting slow". The machine did cost me over 4000 Euro and it was an investment for my small business. Honestly, it is supposed to serve me at least another 5 years. My old mac (trash can) pro was nine years in use without regrets, before my mac studio replaced it - and it still is, now as our "family mac". So no, I do not buy a new mac, because it is simply not necessary. However, I have to admid the new minis look very nice and are extreemly powerful. Greetings from Germany, Thomas.
I think Apple staggered the announcements so the Apple store wouldn't be bombarded with millions of orders for the new machines because when they do a multiple device pre-order it can get messy just trying to order something, the website gets slow and bogged down. Apple is even more popular now than at anytime as far as new users so I'm pretty sure they staggered this event to keep the website traffic easier to deal with.
I must be really thick. I've been watching your main channel for the last 12 months and never realised that these type of videos were on a separate channel - they just appeared as suggestions and I clicked away! I'm not even sure why I watch you at all as I'm fully baked (read over baked) into the google eco system and yet I really enjoy your videos. Hmmmm.......it must be a case of the grass being greener on the other side of the fence. Maybe one day!
Haha - thanks, Dave! And this channel has been around for a while, but it has been through many iterations. I think we've possibly hit on something, though...
Everyone is searching for thunderbolt 5 hubs but there are only a few available. Apple surprised everyone and now the manufacturers should regret being so lazy to update their hubs.
Which camera are you using that is able to track you up and down like that? It is better than centre stage. Please don't tell me I'm wrong and that it's an iPad mini or something lol
For ninety percent of users... a Mac from fifteen years ago would be fine. Built-in obsolescence through their software updates... give off the illusion of a fundamental change that you're missing out on. This is how a high end tech company ( that purportedly build tech to last ) keeps people buying their newest products. With small, incremental changes and five year obsolescence for their hardware - only because of their dubious software updates.
The new TSMC Snapdragon and Ryzen AI9 processors have made the Mini less appealing, both in terms of looks and performance. I'd likely explore other options, such as the Beelink SP9, which offers comparable aesthetics and superior performance to the M4.
The performance of the m4 is better than the AI 9 370 in the beeline and the graphics of the m4 thrash it. Admittedly you are getting 32gb ram and 1 tb ssd for your £770 sales price but other than that the Mac mini is a better deal at the low end and the pro version wallops it all over the place.
@samlawrence4670 not really, you are counting single core. In Multiple core (the important number for any complex process, the M4 and still lags behind the AI9 370. In terms of price again you are comparing the low end of the Mini, plus in 3-6 months the price for the Ryzen units will come down a lot while the price of the Mini won't. Add on the limitations of MacOS in terms of gaming and you just getting a worse deal.
I'm a Mac Mini guy myself have been for ten years or so and will order the M4 by the weekend but I'm amazed they've still not released a 32" iMac .... a 4k and above 28" is probably ideal for most but I think a 32" would fly..... Sounds mad but 27" dosnt do it for me, Although I rock a 28" happily enough with my M1 Mini.
Currently, I own the original M1 Mac mini since it was released. I do plan to get the new smaller Mac mini with the M4 Pro chip later after I get the iPhone 17, lol.
Hmm seen this before in my working life. Watching a guy burning out because the business has got too big for him. if you read this Mark, ask yourself if you need a "team" or you need a better quality of life with a lower income and less responsibility.
Bless you, that's very kind of you to have that concern, but I'm not burning out. I was absolutely in that position not that long ago - until I bought back my time, thanks to my team. But, yes, I've seen folk go the other way. A wiser head on your shoulders once you reach your forties does wonders. Thanks for watching.
