Instead of factory satin paint, spec your car with gloss paint of the same colour, then apply satin PPF. The car'd end up exactly the same look but with extra PPF protection.
There will not be a V8 in a high volume model anymore. The engine would need to be fitted with the upcoming Euro7 regulation which seems most likely impossbile. So only low volume models like the AMG GT and the SL63 will remain with the old V8. Probably the only escape would be a V8 Hybrid like BMW will do in the upcoming M5. But Mercedes has not announcend such a thing.
Absolutely agree with your excitement that the 6 cylinder is still offered by Mercedes-Benz in this very impressive CLE53 AMG. Quite interesting to know that Mercedes-Benz hinted on a more balanced EV to ICE product portfolio moving forward to meet "customer demands".
This car just combines the disadvantages of the C coupe and the E coupe: C class interior, C class inside space, C class window, E class exterior size, E class price
I'm very happy that it looks so great and isn't relegated to a 4-cyl. However, the interior is simply not good enough for e-class customers . . . not good enough for the price . . . unacceptable for any entry-level mercedes - nevermind the last luxury/performance GT car they offer (SL/GT63 are sportier and way more expensive). The interior should have soft-touch instead of scratchy plastics. Not a single piece that looks like metal is real metal (unlike the last gen e class). It's missing design and architecture inside, but would have been excusable if it had better build quality or higher quality materials. I would be less disappointed if the S-coupe was still offered.
I don’t it is desrespectful that you are paying same amount of money for artificall leather which is made out of plastic. Real leather is long long lasting, natural product. Nowadays tnning process of Real leather is eco friendly.
Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment. You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-S1aNZeoatmE.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable. A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1pRNkW9nrrw.html And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6vXePQi_MAk.html New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-u94YXJ72UTA.html More and more natural materials are rising: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nRSsXEnwHDo.html Also check out what the animal skin leather industry tried to with our channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nP_CvLlaFlI.html For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tkjCAmq1_8E.html Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally. In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse? We cannot change what we have bought in the past, but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.
@@autogefuehl Agreed. I've been in a few high end cars with leather-alternative interiors and they're much nicer most cars with leather interiors. It's not about what material is being used but rather the quality of the materials and how they're being used.
This eliminates one of the two complaints I have about the standard CLE, that being the fake exhaust design. What it doesn't fix though is that the CLE has a B-pillar, since I really liked the old E-Coupe not having one, but I guess that's just a small complaint that I could live with, so overall I'd say this is a pretty sexy car, well done Mercedes-AMG.
A small thing I noted, the seatbelt extender thing shouldn't come out unless someone is sitting in the seat. The motor will be working in and out unnecessarily when opening and closing the door when no one is seated there. A bit of an oversight and missing attention to detail I think.
Hi Thomas, good and thorough review. Definitely team 6 Cylinder. This car is great. I see you can hook a car seat on rear seats which does not make sense since the aperture opening is so small when the seat moves forward, unless it's for a toddler booster pad seat.
I'm struggling to understand where this fits in with the competitors, the m4 is a much more performance oriented and quicker car than the cle53 while costing the same, if not a bit less. The CLE 63 will come with an astronomic price tag and most likely not justified.
This car is a lot but a lot prettier than a m4 is not doubt the m4 is fast vey fast but no everyone cares about that other ways people will be buying like crazy shttt EV
The cle is much more comfortable, more luxurious, better looking and more practicable. No doubt the m4 has the much better performance/ much better sportscar. But i think the cle 53 is like in the middle between a sporty luxurious car. For more performance you van still buy the c63 or amg gt coupe…
Beautiful exterior, ruined by another iPad stuck to the dashboard. Overly complicated digital controls and an absence of practical buttons and knobs. Hope it sounds great snd drives well.
One complaint about the screens. Why are the bezels so thick??? Cars like Tesla and even Chinese cars like Xiaomi have screens that look way better. It isn’t that hard nowadays to have thinner bezels, is it? Mercedes could’ve made the screens look much better. Thinner bezels would look much more modern. Yet they spent their budget on those rubbish capacitive buttons. Physical buttons with nice feedback like Porsche or Audi would be nice.
I see a CLE 300 everyday parked at a Mercedes-Benz dealer across the street from my office. It has the size of an E Class coupe but looks just as small as a C Class coupe most probably due to proportions, and that's why I don't like it, as well considering that it has a higher starting price than the E Class coupe. But I'm glad Mercedes are starting to make the light AMG 43/53 versions bulky and wide just like the 63's and now this CLE 53 looks like an updated C63s Coupe, which is fine because that car looks mean. As always, I enjoy your videos, Thomas.
Great video, yes they made copy of C coupe for price S class, they are realy crazy, still no sequential blinkers, still no down back windows like old E coupe, front and back lights are similar a lot of others cars... have a nice day from Slovenia
Was looking for a new car and by chance found about his MB. Never considered a MB especially not an PHEV 4-cylinder AMG, but this is perfect. Nice design, nice sound, great performance.
I think by combining the C and E coupe to make a single entry will be a big fail for Mercedes. The C coupe was the volume leader over the E coupe and by merging them together but at an E class price will alienate the previous buyers of the C coupe as they won't or have the money to pony up to this more expensive price category. As a long time MB fan and buyer I would put my money towards an M440 which you get at least 100% if not 110% of the performance at a 20% or more discount. There will be many alternatives to the CLE at a lower price ( the previous C coupe competitive set such as 4 series, A or S5, Lexus RC, Infiniti Q60). The IWC graphic watch is a joke, give me a real IWC clock in the dash like the C43 or C63 used to have instead of a virtual IWC. In my current C class, I can't tell you how many people who sat in the passenger seat commented how they liked the clock in the console, understated yet very elegant.
My favorite exterior design from Mercedes. 🤩🤩🤩 and the matte black is incredible 🦇 To bad the EQ cars will never be stunning as this, as they went down the efficiency rabbity whole and left esthetics behind.
It's only eerie for non engineers or people who just want to be against the odds. The plaid s is the best case evidence you don't need any engine. A 4 cylinder with electric power hybrided is not a fail at all. With overboost you got more power than with the V8
Can you imagine if Mercedes and AMG continued to perfect the M256 engine? Stick to the straight 6. And bring back the V8's. Yes people are making too much of a fuss on 4-cyl hybrids as replacements for 6's and 8's. At the end of the day you can't argue with physics: asking an engine to produce the same or more output with less moving parts doesn't scream longevity. And eliminates the character of what AMG's are all about imo :)
For me, this is a C class coupe, regardless the size. I'm not taking away anything from its beauty, I'm just saying in terms of interior design, MB didn't make enough effort to make it qualify as a replacement for the E coupe.
Thank you for your detailed reviews, I love watching them. I have a quick question for you and would like to know your choice . Would you buy Mercedes AMG CLE 53 or Porsche Carrera 4s, If you had the money in the option ? Looking forward to hearing from you . Thanks .
Always appreciate the perfect filming of these static presentations and also rear seat testing, especially for these coupes and cabrios. I disagree on animal leathers still, still want good smell cow interior.

Great review. Might be the best benz in years. But wat i really really really don't understand is black plastic. Make it brushed alu or whatever. But this looks cheap
Think this model is getting to replace my current favourite - 2019 C43 Coupe Just the exterior tho. Too much #capacitiveBS in the interior and too much touchscreens.
After forty years of driving with various cars I know one thing for certain: three door cars are *always* without exception, an absolute pain in the arse. Coupe's look great but from every practical aspect an absolute nightmare.
Does the vents on the hood in general let in water (to the engine compartment underneath) when driving in heavy rain? aka, is CLE53 a fair weather car only? @4:35, it shown the vent openings expose directly to the engine cover. This is worrisome.
