Why yes, yes it is the best. Merkur got the design right well over a hundred years ago, and updated it in 1951, which has become today's standard. The secret? It shaves close and fast, but never hurts you. 💯🌟🌟🌟🌟💯

Merkur 34c was my first safety razor. In my opinion, the Merkur 34c with a feather blade offers me about the best shave I can get. It's simple, it's mild/medium aggressiveness which is perfect for beginners. If you add the ultra sharp feather blade the shave is incredible. I love the two piece construction of the razor, it's perfection really. It's no wonder this razor hasn't changed in decades and is still one of the most recommended razors.

Started with the 34C. My favorite daily go to. Very versatile across broad spectrum of blades. Love Merkur razors. Have the Merkur Future which is an incredible razor, but you can't beat the 34C whether beginner or experienced shaver. Very reasonably priced so if your considering wet shaving - spend the money on this razor. You won't be disappointed.

The Merkur 34c was my first razor (I now have seven different razors). Initially the short handle bothered me a bit with my somewhat large hands and long-ish slender fingers. I soon got used to that just fine. This razor is universally reputed to be a ‘beginner’s’ razor not without reason. I’m into DE wet shaving only for the last two years, and I found the 34C to be a pretty forgiving razor for a novice like me when I first started out. It’s mild to mid-aggressive, which I think is actually perfect for most shavers, newbies and vets alike. I wish the 34C, after all these years, and with legions of fans, would finally have a stainless steel version out for us. I’d buy it straight away. As for favourite/best all time safety razor, I reckon my Rockwell 6S is #1, and my Muhle R41 second, on my list. On second thoughts, I slightly prefer even the Edwin Jagger DE89 to the 34C. But these are all fantastic razors. I use them and love them all. Enjoyed the video a lot, too!
@brianthefloridian6254
@brianthefloridian6254 5 лет назад
I believe the 34C will be offered in Sold Steel someday soon like the Edwin Jagger is now finally having a SS version to choose from after all these years. It’s only a matter of time! If you wanted a bigger longer handle with the 34C head, there is the Merkur 38C. I picked the 34C as my favorite & Best Safety Razor in my opinion because of the many pints you made as well as the availability & affordability of it. The Rockwell 6S is a strong contender though! Thanks for Watching!

Brian The Floridian ..Thanks Brian, for replying. I just chanced upon your channel for the first time today. And the title of your video made me really curious. Your choice of the 34C doesn’t surprise me at all. It is such an all-round classic. Totally dependable, easy to use, great entry to DE razors, and as you pointed out, so affordable and good value for money. Funny how I shaved with the 34C just a few hours before watching your video here. The last razor I bought was the EJ 3ONE6. It’s milder than I expected and wanted. But it’s still worth the high price tag. The beautiful SS finish always appeals to me a lot. And it’s a really pretty and efficient razor.

Awesome video!!! I'm just getting into safety razor shaving. I was recommended to use the Parker 99r to start out with but it's been tearing my neck up. I like shaving gels so I can see where to stop at my beard line. I've used a ton of expensive gels and didn't realize there are so many different types of razors and blades. I started looking at other options and it seems that a lot of people like the Merkur 34c. Your video was the best one I've seen to give me the confidence that I made a good decision. I haven't received the razor yet but I feel much better about it after watching your video on it. Thanks for the information, you do good work!
@brianthefloridian6254
@brianthefloridian6254 2 года назад
Thank You! The 34C is a more forgiving safety razor than the Parker 99R in my opinion & better suited to use for starting out on shaving with a safety razor. I would recommend using using a good shaving soap or lathering cream to use with a brush to also prepare your face with the shave. Gels are ok but for me I feel better protection from nicks & cuts by using a good soap or cream since there are usually more slickness & cushion properties in the ingredients. Most importantly, take your time & enjoy the shave with the safety razor & learn the correct angles that work for you! Hope you enjoy the 34c & the shaves….. I believe you will! Have a great week & take care!👍😎

Great video. Only changed over to de shaving about 4 weeks ago now after 40 plus years of cartridges. Bought a Muhle r106 and a variety pack of blades. Had a few bad days where skin was left feeling a bit raw but on the whole not to bad. I put that down to trying different blades in razor on my learning curve. Raw today after using Gillette Nacet. Thinking of getting a second razor for a spare and travel. Been looking at this razor and after your great review I will be getting one. Who knows it may end up as my go to razor and my r106 ends up as the spare lol. Now I just need to find a kind blade lol. So far the cheapest has been the kindest, that being the Derby. Thanks for sharing your video.

Great video Brian, thanks. I am hoping yo get a 34c by the end of the year. Things are a little different for me over here in Thailand than for you guys in the US, UK, Canada or Austrslia. I just got started this week and am 3 shaves in with the Ming Shi 3000s, but am having a little trouble getting an even, irritation free shave. Do you have any tips for that razor? The only blades I can get at the moment are Gillette Wilkinfon Sword from China and Bic. Cheers.
@brianthefloridian6254
@brianthefloridian6254 5 лет назад
I have that razor, the Ming Shi 3000s and it’s a decent razor for starting out since you can adjust the aggressiveness. Stick with that razor but maybe start at setting 1 & work your way up the aggression as you get better used to it with less irritation. Make sure you prep your face well before shaving ( try washing your wash & showering before shaving). Use a good Shave Cream or Soap & definitely use a good shave brush. It takes time getting used to a Safety Razor if you are coming from Cartridge Razor Shaving so be patient! The irritation free shaves will come. Also Stick with the same Shave Setup until you get proficient at wetshaving with a Safety Razor. The 34c is a great shaver for a newbie but the 3000s isn’t a bad shaver though. Hope this helps! Rockwell 6S or 6C is a very compelling choice to be possibly the best Safety Razor ever because of the ability to change the blade gap with the bottom plates. It is a very nice shaver. I think the 34C edges the Rockwell because of how long it’s been around & the super easy learning curve on using it as well as the fact EVERY blade works in this razor!

My favorite is the Rockwell 6c. I've noticed alignment problems with the Merkur34c but that could be manufacturing variations. I'm not the only one who has noticed this. The blade seats with a small twist that can be corrected while tightening but it is inconvenient. Too much play. My copy of the Rockwell is spot on every time.
