This week, reviewed the rather unusual Mitsuoka Viewt. The Viewt is the best selling car from the little known JDM brand Mitsuoka. This Mitsuoka Viewt was imported via the 25-year rule, and is one of only a few Mitsuoka Viewts stateside. Is the Mitsuoka Viewt a good investment of sale proof?

A couple clarifications: First, the Zero 1 was first built in 1994, it wasn't until 1996 when it passed Japan's federal requirements to allow Mitsuoka to be recognized officially as a car manufacturer. Second, this particular Mitsuoka has 165/70R13 sized tired (I said 14" in the video). Some Mitsuoka Viewts do have 14" wheels. Feel free to comment on any other mistakes found, I do make them.. This “retro design” trend of the early 90s Japanese cars is baffling, but gave us some really fun unusual cars like this, the Nissan Pao, and the Figueroa.

You ought to check out some of the other cars Mitsuoka builds. They built a Corvette look-a-like called the Rock Star!

I had a Viewt for almost 3 years here in England, great fun and head turner, some people thinking that it was a mk2 Jag. there are 2 problems, rust where the new extended body is welded to the Micra and the paint flaking off.

A new Viewt here in Japan today goes for between 19,000~22,000 USD at current exchange rates (about 2.8~3.2 million yen, more with options and upgrades).

I went to Japan 4 yrs ago bought 5 car's. I bought 1 for ONLY $ 500. It was 1997 excellent condition very reliable great fuel mileage sold it for $ 5,500 Canadian Dollars

You could import one if you REALLY wanted one. It's just tough to justify the value of paying for it right now when there are so many other choices that offer what the Viewt offers and more..

That certain leaf was likely smoked at this car's conception. It's too bad that the drivetrain wasn't mounted longitudinally, using Nissan't independently-suspended rear axle

Sure, but considering the limited resources Mitsuoka has worked with historically, the Viewt is something of a success. That and some of the other cars they build better fit the RWD sporty car segments

@@SaleProofCarReviews Given limited resources, they could just as well have used the less expensive Daihatsu Hijet platform. At least, the Viewt would have in that case handled more like a Mark II Jaguar with that set-up than with front-drive Nissan gear. The leaf spring rear suspension would also have made loading more than 10 kilograms into the boot possible

I KNOW of course what you mean about the design of the BADGE. It also looks to me like something of a SOVIET military design. I was also wondering about the (quite nice) music, which sounds to me more RUSSIAN, than JAPANESE!

Hi Nygel! You're actually the first person to ask me about the music, and I'm glad you did! It's a song I found in the RU-vid audio library creative commons that I designated as the theme song for the channel's feature car which is a Yugo. The song has a catchy melody and playful feel to it and appropriately, it's called Russian Dance by Joey Pecoraro. I liked the song a lot and decided to use it in the intros, outros, and transitions of all my videos and it will continue to be the Yugo/Sale Proof Car Reviews theme song until the channel's feature car changes.
