@@eliasschremldjalways gets me in the rotary mixers subreddit…guys spending $4K on a mixer they waited almost a year for, playing tracks on scratch needles through six inch speakers pushed to their limits that are bolted inches from their turntables…
Pioneer DJ is under the same parent company as AlphaTheta, which is AlphaTheta, so products by Pioneer DJ will still be called „pioneer DJ“ controlers etc
They didn’t rebrand the full company, they’re using the alphatheta name as a way to test out new out there products Cdjs and other club gear will stay as pioneerdj. Alphatheta dj stuff is going to be their way of testing out new ideas and things. Pioneer dj has built its brand as being consistent and solid, and not innovative. This new branch is made so they can do some out there stuff.
@@michaelstern5616this is a great explanation that clarifies a lot of things for me, thank you. Now AlphaTheta is able to push new features and change fundamental things to try and innovate to compete with Denon and other less popular brands while keeping Pioneer gear consistent with previous products in their line
lol.... agreed . once they flood the market like the flx10s are in stock everywhere now. they move onto the next thing to hype up and backup in stock to flood out again
$3,799 and they still make you buy a separate license to use it with Serato. The company owns both Rekordbox and Serato, really? You would think at this point, since they own both software titles that any Pioneer DJ / Alpha Theta hardware would just would on both without additional licenses. Edit: Well not anymore, since the acquisition was denied by New Zealand Commerce Commission.
That would be true for Today's DJs, but back in the 80s NY DJs like Larry Levan, Tony Humphreys, Larry Patterson and all club NJ Djs used to make the song sing using rotary cross overs. Today, listen to DJ Antwayn Qua on 107 5 WBLS IHEART RADIO ON FRIDAYS AT 8PM!°💣💥💯
It’s a niche mixer for a very specific subset of djs. The price reflects that and pretty fair considering other things an audiophile/vinyl purists have on hand. Not sure why so many comments are confused about this. It’s impressive and the layout looks intuitive and ergonomic, but it’s not going to be found as a permanent fixture in clubs. It will be found in some home studios.
I could see this being used in some clubs with vinyl, there’s a certain amount of amount that want to experience a certain style of music and vibe. See Sunday Sessions, where we play strictly vinyl, the crowd and vibe is really cool
It's starting to feel like AlphaTheta is the brand they're using to experiment with different types of products. Pioneer DJ is the club standard so they can't mess with it too much... every change will be heavily scrutinized. With this new brand they're avoiding "Pioneer DJ introduces first rotary mixer"... I suspect the DJMs will stay under the Pioneer DJ brand for years to come, but the new and different stuff will be AlphaTheta
Honestly, if I could afford it on a personal level, I would love to get one... But my goal this year was to open a listening bar and this would definitely fit right into the concept and add the level of quality we are aiming for... Dope. 👌
What a superb sounding mixer! Big and chunky too. I just like everything about this. I even get the idea that since you can pretty much shape the shound any way you please, you dont really need stems, everything can be done in the mix. Really would like to try one of these
Now is the time for Denon 💪DJ to step up to the plate, and hit it out of the ball park🎊 Make a rotary mixer that us mere "MORTALS" can afford, and you'll have a winner 👍on your hands. Don't get caught up in studio engineer name branding, just give us, as you always do, QUALITY and BANG for BUCK👌
Warning to everyone buying and a question for alphatheta; Crossfader; will this mixer have post fader serato effects? This was a big issue that was never resolved with the Rane mp 2015. As soon as you turned the rotary down, off, cut the volume there was no echo, reverb, no tail on the effect. It was instant off. Rane blamed Serato; Serato blamed Rane and it was never addressed. This was not the case with Traktor so it wasn’t a hardware issue. Please demand Alphatheta Serato and anyone reviewing to be clear and go on record before you buy the mixer to use with Serato. Crissfader, will you please clarify if this mixer will have post fader serato effects when used with Serato Software?
Why cant pioneer just stick to making products that most DJs want such as a new CDJ, new rev7 or s11 etc, instead of specialist crap that barely anyone is gonna be interested in. Ffs doesnt even have a crossfader
This is the mixer I've been waiting years for. Unfortunately waaaay too expensive for the features and minus one key feature I want, which I will get into in a sec, but still this is a dream come true for me in many ways. It's 2024, so why can't you get a hybrid analogue-digital mixer with a soundcard, support for Serato (for me at least), rotaries on channels, and on-board effects. You would be forgiven for thinking we have seen several such products by now. Yes you have products from Allen & Heath like the Xone 96 that almost got there, but unfortunately without Serato support (maybe this was the reason....hmmmm). Nope. Apparently nobody dared to. It took Alpha-Theta, of all the potential candidates that you would have expected, to address this gap in the market. In fact, considering Alpha-Theta, or rather Pioneer DJ to date, have been playing it safe for so long on the innovation front, I'm actually surprised they actually spent the R&D money on such a product. However, the one thing I personally really wanted in such a product, one which I've wanted to see on all rotaries and only a small handful have managed to implement, is still missing. And that is a crossfader. Not necessarily for scratching, although that's cool too, but because using a crossfader is an ideal way to cut one or more channels off very quickly, especially if you are doing a 3 or even 4 channel mix, and do so immediately,. On some older mixers you had something like a kill switch or transformer from some of the older scratch mixers. Of course you could also use the source switch, but some of them introduce an audible click or there may be other issues going that route. Anyway, nice review. Personally not a fan of Pioneer DJ / Alpha-Theta, but this is a super-cool product and I like the direction Alpha-Theta have been going more recently, especially in the visual design aspect in products such as this one and the Omnis ones. Shame about the continued exorbitant prices though.
@@ShaunyWalkerIt would be, but the DB4 has been out of production for a number of years now. Also wouldn't call that a rotary mixer, despite it having the function to switch to rotary mode.
It’s certainly not the most expansive mixer ! Varia instruments Bozak ARS CONDESA ISONOE And it can’t be the best sounding mixer it is not analog ! But it is a good mixer anyway …
Most music people are playing through a boutique mixer is music recorded in the digital domain and ran through a analog mixer like a Neve or SSL console. This Euphonia is replicating the same process in 1 product. High end digital into analog. Neve is above any rotary mixer. No professional in music will dispute that. And I guarantee you will not hear any of the boutique rotary manufacturers making negative comments. They know what a Neve is.
That mixer can be built by Albert Einstein, it's a Pioneer, who cares. Spend your hard earned money on a ARS MODEL9100BW if you're going to spend that much money. Of course Pioneer fanboys are going to buy it because of the built in FX's.
Love rotaries and have one, but also interesting wave going back to basics. Wouldn’t be surprised if we see some 2025 turntables of some sort soon…good times
While expensive for a dj mixer, its pretty good value for money if you compared this to the all hardware audiophile touring techno setup: Playdifferently Model 1.4 ($1800) + Antelope Audio Orion 32 ($2600) + 2 effects pedals ($600) = $5k.
Yessir. Btw I have a SSL 6 that I use with a Xone 96. Neve, API, Trident and SSL are at the top of analog for decades. Their designs were used to create the first dj mixers in the first place.
Listen I can tell you you are correct It only sounds as good as the digital file is processed. Whatever this company is smoking please stop your going to not make money with overpriced built in china equipment. There is very little market for this product. 4000.00 Your outta your mind.I own a native instrument sound card it’s the best sounding usb I have ever had and I played music from my laptop into a 20,000 dollar sound system. I doubt this unit can do anything better other than mix with dials
Surprised to read all the negative comments. This thing would have sent a 90s/00s Sasha and Digweed set into orbit and imagine tracks thundering through it at somewhere like Ants 😮💨
Slight correction for your video intro: "Alpha Teta, the company that purchased Pioneer DJ..." It was definitely not "established" by Pioneer, not sure where you got that info from but it is totally inaccurate way to start this video
Seriously, I have a Rane MP2015 and its maybe not as amazing as this, but buying a pioneer rotary mixer is a crime considering what this company has done to the tradition of rotary mixers.
This is a winner. As good as ssl consoles were they didn’t have the bottom end that neves had. The ssls were more known for mix routing/automation, the neve was a warm sounding tracking/summing beast that thumped like hell on the bottom when pushed.
1st deal beaker is the price...Radio Shack mixers started it...2nd deal breaker is facts, in the 70s, 80s the club/house music DJs in NY and NJ used...URIE rotary knob mixers!
I dunno, I learned to beat match and blend and honestly I've never had the need to improve the sound quality. You can have the best mixer in the world but if the venue can have a shlt system what do you do then?
I think it’s a pretty niche device that they created for a certain type of dj. Definitely not for everyone. The person this is made for most likely plays on hifi systems or very top notch club equipment.
Still think that AlphaTheta is the dumbest name they could've gone with. Pioneer DJ was fine and established, no idea why they had to go and change it. Some executives probably felt useless in their jobs.
Really excited to play on one of these. On paper, I’ve got one beef though: for a $3700 mixer, this deserves a dedicated Hipass filter per channel, instead of including as an effect. Very curious how the filter sounds, as well.
Pretty impressive box, but it's not the most expensive mixer. Or the most impressive. The (stpvstx) Vestax Phoenix is $10k. Im not even sure why but its made with a bunch of real gold apparently.
First off Rupert Neve died years ago ,, his team is continuing developing amazing products but to come out here at talk all this mumbo jumbo about transformers is making me laugh my ass off.. do you even know how transformers work ?? Let alone what they do?? Are they input output or both on each ch ?? Are you sure that they brighten the sound ?? Dis are some of the most sound passionate people so quit with the mumbo jumbo propaganda please ,,
We used to have a saying "Talking about sound is like tap dancing about architecture." Your sound quality section did not include an audition of the product at all. It is not hard to show the sound quality. Do an AB with other mixers and render the video with Prores 422, that will be enough to get a feel. The amount of videos of endless talking about the mixer, I just want to hear it!!!
The thing about these is that when you read "Never used" in a second hand ad, it's the only time you know it's true. And, yes.. that's a joke about pretending to turn knobs..
So basically they've released a mixer whose most groundbreaking feature is being the world's most expensive DJ mixer. Good job Pioneer... Who needs the Rupert Neve "touch" anyway? A professionally produced track already sounds good enough. I think this mixer is a load of bollocks.
Well, you are wrong! It has plenty of new features and is without any doubt the most feature rich and most advanced rotary mixer on the market. And probably the best sounding as well!
A real best of both worlds would actually be if you can send the ISO to a separate channel, not hardcoded to the master like all other rottaries...but I am sure they couldn't manage to do that
Guys, for the past three days, we've been inundated with praise from top experts extolling the unique qualities of this product. Allow me to counter this overwhelming wave of words by presenting three reasons why I choose not to purchase this item: 1) There's nothing I can accomplish with a rotary mixer that I can't achieve with a fader mixer. Conversely, many functions available on a fader mixer are absent on a rotary mixer. 2) If I aim to enjoy music without digital interference, I should opt for a purely analog mixer, such as an Allen&Heath, a Formula Sound, or an Ecler. However, this product isn't purely analog. 3) It's risky to purchase a product as soon as it's released. Statistically, products tend to become more reliable after being on the market for some time. This is a general rule of thumb that has never failed me. Good luck!
This is not the most expensive dj mixer. Traditional rotary mixer brands like Isonoe and Union Audio make more expensive high end dj mixers. Get your facts straight aka nice click bait title.
I was annoyed at the release of the Omni Duo. Not so this one. The only problem with this release. It was many years later than what it should have. I completely get this though and actually can’t wait to hear what this can do on a proper system. I get people won’t understand why this exists, and that will be everyone waiting for the new cdj/xdj replacements. But for the people that have a proper system that will get the most out of it, especially from a sound perspective, yeap I’m all for it. But man Alpha Theta if you wanna send me out a demo unit, I’ll absolutely take this for a test run in the studio. See what this beast can do 👌
Its definitely prettier to look at than the db4. But with those builtin loopers and cutoff switches I feel like the db4 is hard to beat and not really for the same kind of dj.
