Nice video. My 2 cents are the following: I am not a fan of the fact that you have to press a button on the fob key to open the door. You should be a proximity fob key like most modern vehicles. Also, I think it should be a push button start. Sure, have it on the left side but just push a start button. I'm not a fan of the analog dash in front of the driver, but I could live with it as the centre console screen is nice. Again, nice video. Thanks for posting.
Porsche has won the 24 hours of LeMans 19 times overall since 1970..., and also more than 110 class victories since 1950! Just sayin;-)! "17 times" is not correct!
Been a 911 fan since I was a little kid but never drove one. I’m renting a convertible Carerra S in a couple weeks for 3 days and I’m unbelievably excited. I’ve barely even driven any sports car before
Awesome... great video. I love the comments from people who just don't get it. A 911 isn't for everyone, some guys want a car that looks like a box, some don't.
the model shown is sport package..front and rear fascia w/ side skirts..this is an added $$$ option..not the standard look carrera ..but I like this look a lot!!
I got to drive one today for work. Absolutely stunning. I’m a Mercedes guy. I love my AMGs and I never imagined a porche could blow something out of the water like a 05 E55. Absolutely amazing. I want one now
Lol! The armrest is as hard as a rock and can not zonk it because it is a Porsche 911! Love it Joe. Beautiful exterior interior color combination. Closes to a perfect car I have seen yet! If I had $$$ thus color combination but with a manual no doubt. The only way to go in a Porsche.
I love the 992 for everything except for the exhaust note compares to the 991 and 991.2. The GPF really screwed up that raw sound by muffling the exhaust more.
Raiti - You have an excellent knowledge of the 911. The line was taken off the chart and drawn across the wall all the way to the door and I would say the company has just about reached that point on the door on the calendar. The interior is very neat and well organized and looks good to the eye. Makes past interiors look dated and old. I will say this: I optioned and ordered, in Jan/Feb 2012 the very first 991, 911. I optioned the beige interior along with the Racing Yellow exterior paint, the first year for that paint without paying extra. Interestingly the various codes changed as the car was being built. Approximately one day prior to the completion of my 911, Dr. Ferdinand Alexander Porsche passed away. He was the designer of the 911. The very next day, the factory finished my Porsche and coded that. The car was then on its trip from Stuttgart to Beverly Hills, California and it arrived the day before Father's day and dealer prepped. The following day, Beverly Hills held its annual Rodeo Drive car show to which I went. After the show, my cousin and I went to the Beverly Hills Porsche dealer. Arriving and observing the car behind the main glass at the dealership was my Carrera. That is right, my 991 was nothing more than a standard Carrera. However it was loaded with leather interior and 18 way adaptive power seats, PDK with all of the handling mods one could obtain in a standard Carrera including factory wheel spacers. 20" Carrera silver painted wheels with Pirrelli P-Zeros. Sun roof. Bose upgraded stereo system. My steering wheel had on it unusual thumb shifters only offered for a short period of time. These change the gear manually whether in manual or not and each of these shifters are not F-1 type, but they are each able to both shift up and down, on both sides of the steering wheel, and additionally the gear lever can also do the shifting manual by moving the lever to the left of its normal position. Heated and ventilated seats ordered. No other items or buttons on the steering wheel. My nearly 8 year old Porsche 991 still drives extremely well and it is extremely satisfying. 350 horsepower is small by today's standards, yet the car then still had a top speed of 178 miles per hour. The car also has launch control built in for use after the car is up to full operating temperature. The gas mileage is shown rated at 28 highway and 21 city. On the Highway on a couple of road trips of better than 300 miles each way, my Carrera returned about 30.3 miles per gallon. The in town driving ranges from around 19-23 mpg, depending upon how I drive the car. The first year, I put a cat-back exhaust on the car and then nothing until this year when I put new air filters of the K & N type and also an aluminum IPD plenum on the intake replacing the Porsche factory plenum. It dissipates heat better and has better air flow characteristics that the stock Porsche plenum. That's it thus far, although I'm thinking of obtaining a tuner for the car that is of the plug and play type. I still love the car when I get in it and drive it and I'm not wishing for a new 992, despite the fact that those cars are tremendous. My car when new nearly reached 118,000 before getting out the door with options. These days, with similar options, one might pay about 143,000, although it would have all those upgrades including the rear wheel steering. That feature makes the car more nimble and saves tires a bit. All in all, I likely will never buy another Porsche. But then this one is good enough. Anyone who can find a used 991 Porsche, as long as it was well-maintained will be getting a bargain. As great as all the cars on offer today are, of course, only one gets this American's attention: the C8 Corvette.
Truth be told. The ignition switch on the left is there when Porsche was a small manufacture they needed to save money. Less wiring that’s it. As with all Porsche’s nothing changes it stays on the left. Oh yeah there’s a cup holder for the passenger in the old spot on the right side of the dash. Good review.
Not going to dispute that it was the original reason but the reason it remains there is because back in the day when Porsche was racing and the drivers ran to the car to start the races having the switch on the left was strategic......
No, the shorter wire is not the reason. The fact that race drivers could put the car in gear (with their right hand) while starting it with their left is what Porsche says.
Can you please post a 2nd video of the 992 in “Sport” mode and PSE activated so we can hear all the beautiful pops, crackles, and burbles?! Once again, it will only be heard in “Sport” mode. I’m surprised no one yet has posted a US spec 992 with the exhaust valves open and in Sport mode. I imagine the crackles and pops are music to the ears! Great review!
Can you use all the power in the USA. We in Europe have the unlimited Autobahn and a lot of good steering roads but in the States??? And more on topic.....the sound is going down since the introduction of the turbo in all (nearly) modells..
Compared to other sports cars 911s are usually pretty reliable. There have been bad years, but overall 911s are usually solid. There is a reason why there are so many on the road.
I didn't know they started arriving in the USA. 155k , I guess low 140ish being the coupe. I like some of the changes, but not ready to trade up for the 992, yet !
This one has the Sport Design package. Without it, the front bumper is a giant black hole. That really bothers me about the 992, along with the giant black hole of a rear bumper.
I hated the look without sport design package at first. The standard look is growing on me now. With the sport design package the front looks more like a cayman/boxster. Without it, it’s distinctive 992.
0:51 Dr. Ferdinand Porsche did not design the 911 in 1963. He died in 1951. It was his _grandson_ Ferdinand Alexander Porsche who designed it. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferdinand_Alexander_Porsche
All Japanese automakers (especially Nissan) need to go back to school. They're miserably falling behind Germans with their turbo charged semi-trucks, military tanks & soccer mom-sized "sports cars"...
Correction 1 : Both front and back wheels are 21", Correction 2 : The reason he dislikes the area above the defuser is because Porsche had to design the height of the license plate area higher than in the rest of the world. Check out how nice the European 911 back end compared to US version.
Do people actually spend $156,000 for this car? Or do people lease? Leasing is such a waste, because you have nothing to show for at the end of that lease. I also heard an oil/filter maintenance is $1000. Is this true?
Hey Joe - Great review. Regarding the access to the ignition key was to do with the wiring and not to do with quickness of starting the car. They just ran with it.
I’ve seen that new theory also on why it was located to the left of the steering wheel. No biggie either way. If the new theory is the accepted thought, then why is the tachometer still the primary gauge?
Man the quality of your channel it's improving so fast, I gave immediate click on this one, seen a few reviews of this, but can't skip yours. Imma seat back and enjoy.
Joe I have always loved the 911 Porsche, especially since 1970 I got a chance to drive a green '66 911, before they had the S, E and T models. They were tricky to drive but really fun! I was an 18 year old freshman and in college in AL. The only thing now besides the complexity of all cars including Porsche is besides being expensive to maintain, are the options on these cars! A few years ago it was noted that the average buyer spent $20K+ on options! If you play with the Porsche configurator, you can easily add thousands to your new Porsche! I even got a chance in high school to drive a 356B from around 1964 that a friend of my brother got on his 16th birthday. His parents were from Belgium, the kid born here! I wonder if the kid is still alive?
FWIW: The Ferdinand Porsche, you may be thinking of didn't design the 911. That was Ferdinand "Butzi" Porsche (son of Ferry, Grandson of Ferdinand Porsche) who designed the 911. I know. Three of them have the same names. LOL. Of course, the famous Ferdinand started the Porsche company; designed the first Volkswagen; Porsche Type 64 electric vehicle in 1900; Mercedes SSK, and other historical German cars. Ferdinand "Ferry" Porsche (Ferdinand's son), designed the first official Porsche the 356. Whew! And thanks, for the review!
SORRY..... I'll keep my N/A 2016 991 GTS. I hate the digital gauges! The Shick razor shifter and front end air intakes. Car has become too.... digital! I do like the rear end and seats. But the car has also become way to expensive! $140K with only a few extras! Get the new C8 corvette for half the price! P.S. It sounds like CRAP! I've heard better exhaust sound from a C Class Mercedes. Porsche is losing it's direction with this 2020 model.
I just sold my 2016 GTS. No power unless sport plus and hitting high RPM. The turbo is much quicker and faster than my car ever dreamed of being. It was truly a quality car though. The real deal but $$$$
