No, but given the pedigree, they are not viewed as similar to the other Japanese sports cars of the time (MX5, S2000). So I guess it was just pointing out that they are still a valid option.
Timeless car. It’s got its credits from all these years as an enjoyable car with mountains of potential. High potential for performance, tons of after market suspension options, limitless cosmetics & aerodynamics. Makes sense why it has such a cult like following. I own an 04. The engine is pretty dated performance wise by today’s standards but never have I had a unenjoyable time driving it.
The Nissan 350z is not hated. This car sold extremely well in the US. It out performed the Mustang GT at the time definitely out handled it. And for the price for the performance at the time, it was one of the best values you could get, on the less expensive side of the corvette. If you wanted a car that could out perform it. You’d have to take a big step up in price to the corvette, which at 2003 dollars was 10 to 20k more. Porsche Boxter was slower than the 350z and more expensive than the corvette. You could almost get two 350z base models for a boxter s.
@@ResevoirGod yeah we have ruled the world ever since your island colony wanted independence from America. We'll take you back just bend the knee and kiss the ring.
it's sad bcs non-car people edit and manage this channel, they need to focus more on the cars, no raw sound clips, flybys covered with voice and shit music, this are the problems they need to solve
@@RazorSharp75426 couldn't hold an informative conversation for more than 15 seconds. Don't get me wrong I enjoy there videos on the channel but alot of it is just bable. Not really learning anything.
No one actually hates 350z's they just sound like shite when they're straight piped. And people used to spend $10-15k for "fbo" and not even make 300whp. But they're great cars. Look great. Drive great. Great transmission. Etc
@@JLiuTurboZ yeah vq's LOVE boost. I remember back in the day a guy had one fbo/internals supercharged making like 600. And had nitrous (wasn't used as far as I know). Thing was insane. Then there was a twin turbo one aswell. This is like in 07-08 when they were still pretty new.
10k ? What kind of parts are you putting on ? These could make 300 whp easily asperated no 03 to 06 needs 10k for cams and fbo aswell as 07 to 08's make 300+whp with exhaust, intakes and a tune I am not even 3k into mods and only need drop in cams to make 300+whp if I wanted to
Should have tested a HR 350Z for the stock version the HR is a much more free revving with higher redline at 7600rpm plus 306hp and 268tq over the base de only making 280hp but has 270tq I have had two G35's one with a DE and my current G35 sedan has the VQ35HR and it's a very different car to drive with the HR it feels smoother and pulls harder up higher in the rpms
Weight is similar to a boxster but has way more power.... I never understood why people didnt like it. When theres so few affordable sports cars, it doesn't exactly encourage more manufacturers to make one when everyone criticizes it.
"sluggish throttle response" I owned a 2005 350Z for about 10 Years and compared it to a lot of other Cars. But never would i have said that the throttle response is anything but very quick. Btw the car does even have a little shake when in neutral, because the Flywheel was made very light from Stock. And I liked the DE Motor the best even with its slightly lower Redline because it had the most Torque of all the 3 Engine generations.
Also in 2007 the auto industry as a whole adjusted the way HP and torque was measured which means that cars would be advertised with slightly less hp and torque than 2006 and prior. The HR makes more power and torque than the DE does too the wheels stock for stock on a dyno, its just that it doesn't appear that way in the marketing due to the way the industry changed how things were measured. The DE makes the least power and torque in the real world even if it might seem like it makes the most on paper.
@@SoyblackpowerI heard this comment over and over all through the years could you explain why there is only an 20hp difference between the de and hr on the SAME dyno and same measuring software for the dyno to read the hp ? Healthy DE makes 240 to 245whp stock and an hr makes 260 to 265whp stock
@@Ben_Z33 yeah in the real world an HR is making 20-30hp more than a DE stock for stock. And the HR is making more torque under the curve all through the rev range than the DE. The peak number might only be 25hp more but its making that throughout most of the rev range, on the street thats pretty significant. Also healthy DEs are making closer to 220-225whp stock and HRs closer to 255ish stock. With the standard bolt ons (not including longtube headers basically) a DE will make probably 270hp at the most and an HR will be touching 300whp at the most.
Also the stock tune sucks. Too much rehang, the heavy flywheel makes it worse but most of the hesitancy for the revs to drop is from the factory tune. I will do a few bolt ons on mine first before getting it retuned.
I had one 10 years ago (podiumed National Solo2 championship with it) before selling it. I quickly regretted that decision. Got another one in mint condition last year and absolutely love it. Once people get their head around the fact the 350z is an inexpensive, honest, overbuilt, reliable, GT cruiser - they will truely appreciate it.
What is this video even? Where are the masses of people disliking the 350Z, compared to all the people who at least, don't hate it? It's an icon for a lot of people and the most I've heard is people disliking the noise, which seems more like the engine (and whatever exhaust) than the car.
its a really good car. people hate it mainly for what the owners have done. here in the states it has a terrible reputation and the trumpet sound doesn't help.
Why do they never test an HR is these? 07-09 HR's had a 306hp engine with much less vibration and stronger/lighter internals with dual air intakes etc++. The VQ35HR is closer to a VQ37HR(370Z) than the DE motor's in all three of these. I must say that S-Tune is awesome though, if it's the one I think it is then it's for sale at the moment too. But the real top tier, non one-offs, 350Z's are the V3 Nismo and the 380RS. Also if you buy one for only £5k it will be in need of a lot of work!
As well as the nismo it's self is not that special either its an hr 350z with an aero kit and the "exstra stiffness" is essentially just some cross braces bolted to the chassis of the car so even if you got an 350 DE like me "the shitty one in everyone's eyes" you can buy the nismo bracing off the second hand jdm market and bolt it onto your car, one in the trunk and one close to the front of the car There was in in depth video of an guy showing where all the bracing bolts onto
I have a Z (06) and i'd say they're rated fairly these days. If anything they were a bit overrated when they came out. They're a big pudgy & heavy (somewhat underpowered for the weight they push depending on what trim and year) and really struggle with traction. However they were affordable, sexy, and easily modified into whatever car you wanted it to be - a jack of all trades master of none type deal.
The 350GTS is not a one off special. It was made by swiss company NOVIDEM and was turned down by Nissan because our japanese friends were against it. I worked for Novidem so i can report from pole position. What a pity
@@ResevoirGod well I found that the 350Z looks way cooler then the 370Z, it appears the driving sensation are better with the 350 even if it's heavier !! also the 350Z is cheaper. I know the 370Z is inherently a better car but I'm not looking for the better car, I'm looking for the one that fits me :)
Enjoyed the video, but can’t understand the title? The 350Z had nowhere near as much hate cast upon it as the TT or Z4. The Audi still carries the hairdresser stigma and the BMW is the modern day MGB GT, that….. let’s say the more mature person likes to take on Sunday drives and picnics. 🤷♂️
I Love the Nismo, I had the pleasure of having a little drive in that exact car around 10years ago at a place I used to work where it was stored along with the supercharged one which I got to see too! It’s nice to see the Nismo again brings back a good memory!
I know the comments section is saying these aren't hated but I agree with the presenter. This was always compared to the Boxster and came nowhere near in terms of sports car feels. It was more of a GT car and meant that it was universally marked down for that by journalists
@TIWNA851 True but it has a better badge than the 350z and anyone who has actually driven a boxster always beams afterwards and realises it has some things the 911 doesn't
@@samdurling6053 I do hear that a lot, but I still get flashbacks to my youth when me and my brother begged my father not to buy a Boxster S as we feared the ribbing from our mates 🫣 He thankfully listened 🤣
You should try an 07 or 08 model, with the improved more powerful higher reving VQ35HR Motor. With just intakes, exhaust and tune, my car makes 360 BHP . A completely different car, from the 3 you’ve driven,
I don’t think it’s actually underrated considering how well it sold in the us. The thing about it that I do think is underrated is how much performance you get for the dollar. You get rwd, 300hp, and a manual for like $10k.
It's not a Renault engine, that's just nonsense that Clarkson spouted and everyone repeated as gospel. The VQ engine series is 100% designed and made by Nissan in Japan. A detuned version was used in some Renault cars as part of the Renault-Nissan Alliance.
Where has all this 'hate' come fromr? They were raved about when launched and I was very tempted (test drove one along with the also recently launched RX8, but only my shallow ego steered me German side). These cars have always been considered highly, from the moment they came out.......... strange comment to hear, as even on the PH forums, the old 350Z still commands nothing but respect.
The 350z is definitely not the easiest car to drive in traffic, you can put a cheap throttle controller in to fix the laggy throttle and swap to a single mass flywheel, but you'll soon find there's a reason they use a dual mass flywheel as it dampens out a LOT of vibration. Still a fun car though and very reliable, just be careful of the gearbox synchros in the 2003-2004's and engine timing chain tensioners/guides (due to poor maintenance) cause they are both expensive to repair. They are a lot of fun on a country road, but for driving around in the city I'd pick something else. If I were to buy a Z it'd probably be the 370z, by then they had fixed all the problems in the 350z except the heavy clutch. The HR engines are bulletproof.
These cars get hate due to majority of American owners doing dumb stuff with them not to mention it's also an toxic community as some owners with specific year models looking down upon others.... cough hr and nismo owners 👀
I love my 350z. Been to the ring a couple times, few brands hatch track days. Its a total bargain for the quality of car you get if you can deal with 2 seats. It always puts a smile of my face, it loves to be driven hard. I have the HR, solid as a rock, highly recommend one! (just dont straight pipe it).
This is true, the 3.5 DE is a grunt big torque engine. Till this day, it pushes harder than a 370z. It only lacks the Hi rev 7800 RPMs and HP. my 2003 DE on a dyno mustang puts down 240HP and 240 Tq.
when the GTR came out I was working right next to a french tunning company and one of the worker had a 350Z completly gutted ! He told me the engine was stock (you can't change the power output on a used car in france) but everything else was custom and the car weighted around 1150 kg ! But no carpet, no aircon, nothing. he told me it was a nightmare in the summer and would not remove the AC if he had to do it again. But apparently he was beating 911 turbo on the track.
A stock Z could easily keep up with 911 and 911 Turbo on track even when they came out in 2003 …was in Car and Driver …the track performance comparisons
I've owned it for 6 years. It was perfect except this past year where I feel like its either possessed by BMW Ghost or has turned to a BMW itself. It has become so unreliable and the engine has only 130K miles. Its nuts. I might sell it this month when a good offer comes
This video has just made me re-subscribe from since the old crew left, this guy is genuinely a good presenter, convinient that im literally debating on a 350z after going through a 130i, a GT86 and a megane rs250 cup, still think the gt86 will be the most fun but keen to see what the 350z is all about
I've owned one of these years ago and have been lucky enough to own some very nice cars such as the e92 M3 and m240 ect. . . I don't have anything bad to say about the 350z, they are simple old school sports cars that drive nicely, handle well and have a nice meaty V6 N/A engine. These are the type of cars everyone will want if EV saturation becomes a reality.
NFS Underground 2 isn't the only game to feature the Z33 on the cover , Forza Motorsport 2 also did the same. They could've use a different, better car tbh. But noooooooooo
Everywhere i go i get at one compliment on mjne special the new generation a guy in family dollar to today he probably was about 20 something was like damn that sweet what kind if car is that. New generation think it is a new car.
Lost 60,000 subscribers in 3 months and you're getting 5 figure view counts on literally every video since all your screen staff left... When are you gonna accept that you've taken on too much water?
The 350z is an amazing car the owners ruin it and I’m mainly talking about the Edgar’s and sadboyz who have ruined the platform by cutting the springs, straight piped them and take them to a take over and crash it and keep driving it clapped out.
Don't recall it being hated - it was no lightweight .... but it felt engineered like a Porsche - heavy (in a good way) ... I nearly bought one when they first came out, and tried the Boxster, S2000, Z4 and Lotus Elise ... I went lightweight in the end with the Lotus .... and very nearly bought the amazing S2000 ..... Nothing against the Nissan though - was a competitive sector back in early 2000's .....
2007 350z owner chiming in from the US. For a performance car it used to be a cheap bargain, even years befor the pandemic. $5k got you a decent and low mileage 6 speed manual early model. Might burn a little oil, might have some small issues here and there but more desirable models like the 07-08 VQ35HR could be had for $10k. Bought my 07 6MT for $9k just as the pandemic hit. The reason for the hate isn't the car, it's the owners. The owners can be insufferable, with awful exhaust mods, questionable design choices and their on road manners. The 350z is also the sister to the Infiniti G35/ V35 Skyline, a car known in the takeover scene here in the US These owners are why im planning to keep my Z to an OE+ look and do proper mods, as it might be the last clean manua HRl 350z in my state.
It’s literally called a GT, grand tourer, a comfortable quick car for long drives. It’s supposed to be exactly as it is! 😅 The tuning potential is what turns it into a true sports car/racer!
I haven’t met people that hated it, but nearly everyone I meet that has had this and other sports cars as well have said it’s underwhelming by comparison.
Who hates the 350 Z ? Ok, it was a bit heavy and the interior was a bit cheap, but hey, go buy a Porsche then ! Not the same price though... I know somebody who has a 350 Z, and it is a very nice car !
people just hate Z's because of cheap exhaust set ups where people go for volume over tone. i know people shit on tomei, the brand itself is solid the issue is that people get a straight pipe all the way back and slap the tomei muffler on instead of going full titanium all the way back
I own a 2005 Roadster had for 10 years 😍 it and agreed with your piece to camera they are heavy feeling and more a grand tourer. I am in the process of moving mine on as bought somthing else to replace it with different direction but even more fun I got to say but can't compare as 2 different cars in there own right.
Great car, had a stock revup. 5 years of playing on local NC500 potholed roads and it just shrugged it off. Off to auto trader I go. Great vid, thanks.
Great handling car standard and even better modded. Weight lets it down and could have done with a bit more power. Apart from that its great on track as you can really throw it around the corners. Mines taken 3 years of abuse and its still going strong
