I hope they can add wired in an update because both the dongle and the controller have a USB-C port, so it should be simple to just plug in the wire and be able to have lower latency
my nyxi warrior has the weird issue that the left stick slightly decalibrates itself after some time. especially when playing platform fighters. when you do the input test on steam, you will recognize that one direction (down for me) will never reach its full value. if you turn the controller off and on again it works again. super annoying.
Glad to see a decent review for this finally, I might actually get one. I own the "innext wireless gamecube controller" thats on amazon and that thing actually rules. Low latency, gc and switch/pc receiver. Triggers click! Analog stick is accurate and not all stiff. Only real issue was with thr right trigger and the brand released a firmware update that fixed it. Should def check it out as I barely see reviews for it and with the shortage of good quality gc controllers it deserves some love. I promise Its not the typical chinese clone garbage that is everywhere.
I'm seeing in Amazon reviews that the face buttons seem to be prone to failure? Makes me a little concerned about trying this one out. I wonder how it will ultimately compare to the upcoming RetroFighters BattlerGC Pro.
I think there are only 2 reasons for buying this controller: -if you play a lot smash bros ultimate -if you still play the original GameCube There are another alternative for playing smash bros, there is the 8bitdo gbros adapter, that thing is fantastic, but the problema is that you need a GameCube controller and if you don’t have one, this nixi controller is another option. And if you are still playing GameCube at this era, if you have the console probably you still at least 1 wired controller, but let’s be real, wired controllers are anoying, it has been around 22 years this console was released, so if you are still playing it, I think there is a high level probability you have kids, so this makes more complicate to play, the kids running around and maybe the pull the cable and the console falls down. There is the official wave bird controller, but is very expensive to get one in good condition, I had one and it broke by itself, I treat good my controllers, but for some reason I turn it on, and in 2 seconds it gets disconected even when using new batteries. There is another option, there is this blue retro wireless receiver, It totally works, but the problem, some games like metal gear, get super confusing looking at the buttons input on the screen and on the real controller they are on a different location, and also you need a pc to configure and sometime it doesn’t work. So the only reason for me to buy this nixi warrior, is because it include the adapter to connect to an old GameCube, that’s the whole reason I was interested in this controller. If you are not playing smash bros, or game cube, really I don’t see any reason to buy this, they are many controllers. So, nice review, you really helped me in taking a decision to buy this. Finally! All my favorite consoles has wireless controllers, nes with 8bitdo adapter, snes with 8bitdo adapter, n64 with the fighter 64 wireless controller, GameCube with this nixi controller, ps1/2 with the 8bitdo adapter. Finally I have all wireless controllers that really works!
Likely the issue with your wavebird losing connection is corrosion buildup inside the receiver. Theres several videos on how to take it apart to clean and restore its functionality. If you still have it maybe give that a try!
by "traditional GameCube style thumbstick" do you mean the ribbing, the detented motion, or both? And does this thing have some kinda tactile bump to the triggers like the OG controller's dual-stage L/R buttons?
There's no click like the R and L buttons on GCN controllers, it's more like the triggers on a PS3/4/5 controller. You can adjust the travel distance though.
@@Moonpoints It comes with a set of circular gates in the box, but the octagonal gate is preinstalled. I went to the calibration screen on Switch with the octagonal gates on, and I'm getting the full range of motion from the sticks. I think some players might just not be used to the octagonal gates if they never used the original GCN controller.
I got some good news with the controller, in Australia it costs as much as a white and black ps5 controller, but the upgrade is slightly cheaper than the other colour ps5 controllers.
I've never really used a GC controller much, but this seems like the go to, though I'm not that keen on the layout & i have hella controllers now so don't really need it . Maybe another for the collection? 😅
I swore off wireless, my new best friend is the microsoft brand xbox 1 controller. technically, the best controller is a Nintendo brand Switch Pro controller using a cable connection cause their dense rubber sticks reduce snapback.
Hello Indie! Would you ever consider doing reviews of handheld emulator devices like the Miyoo Mini Plus or Retroid stuff? I think it could be a wealth of new things to take a look at! I find them very fun to tinker with, and I can't leave the house without my Miyoo to play everything from arcade through DS and PS1 games.
Im honestly thinking of getting this for Multiversus. I've never owned a Gamecube controller before. I play on PC and my Steam Deck. So we can't connect and use the controller via USB to PC? Wireless only? The orange colourway looks amazing!
Hi, thank you for your short review, i bought the Nyxi wizard for the hall effect joystick, but God i utterly dislike the hollow sensation of the A, B, X, & Y button, and seeing your review has confirm some things i wanted to know before i buy the Nyxi Warrior.
I just wish nintendo would patch offical gamecube controller support to more games since only 1 and a half games support it, you already have metroid prime, pikmin 1 and 2 and ttyd on switch
@@IndieAlpaca while i do prefer wii controlles for pikmin 2 and metroid prime it would have been nice for nintendo to add gc support for people who either dont have any spares or who hate switch controllers, me being one of those people
Thanks for the review. I have a couple questions if you time. How long is the battery life? Do the triggers have a click when you push them all the way down like a GameCube controller?
My only complain of this controller is that there is no analog trigger for Gamecube games, I tried Mario Sunshine and when pressing the triggers it shoot the water as if I'm pressing all the way down, I hope they fix the sensitivity of the triggers.
Is this on the Switch version or on the actual gamecube? This was something I hadn't actually tested since my GC iisn't in working order right now. If so, I'm sorry for spreading any misinformation.
@@IndieAlpaca In the actual Gamecube version, the triggers are registered as digital not as analog and that affect not only that game but many, you see in the Mario Sunshine on Switch there's two type of action when you shooting water on ZR and R so you can move arround and shotting the water but on Gamecube is a different story, I also checked for an update on the main page from Nyxi but I didn't find any.
@@msanchez1680d Thanks for the heads up on that. I'll make a note in the description regarding that and see if I can't remove that segment from the video.
My main issue with this controller is the fact that it is detected as an Xbox Controller when playing on PC and I cannot use the gyro, and the fact that the back buttons are just able to be binded to the controller itself. Would love to bind them to specific actions in Steam Input API or do Macros on them. Not a fun of Turbo too myself. Other than that it looks like the definitive modern GC style controller
I was wondering about gyro controls for pc. It should work I'd used on switch but that makes me wonder if that means gyro can work pm pc in bluetooth mode? That's what I've been curious before buying one.
Hey, great review! A couple of quick questions, please: A) Does the gyro work with Steam input? B) The analog sticks are clickable/pressable? Like L3 and R3 on PlayStations controllers. Thank you for your video!
