Is the older and popular Liquid Freezer II by Arctic still usable or worth buying? Should you be getting one, if you ever find one on sale?
Actually, this review of today's AIO liquid cooler should have come much earlier, but in the meantime Arctic happened to release the long-awaited successor, the Liquid Freezer III.
Nonetheless, today I'll be taking a look at the Arctic Liquid Freezer II 360 A-RGB, and letting it cool not only a Ryzen CPU, but also the toasty i9-13900K to determine whether the good reputation for the Liquid Freezer series is actually justified compared to competing models.
This is also a good chance to collect test results and data, so that I can compare it later on with a Liquid Freezer III whenever I get one.
So if you happen to find the predecessor on sale somewhere at a good price, how much cooling performance can you expect out of this thing?

Would you even consider picking up the "old", now "outdated" Liquid Freezer II now that the Liquid Freezer III is out? 🤔😁 How many of you actually own the Liquid Freezer II, and what are your experiences with it? 😅

I think the LFII is still a good, affordable, good performing option. I have been using the LFII 240 for a few years now, and it's been going strong with multiple builds. I think I got it when I had a 3800X, which got upgraded to a 5800x3d, and how it's keeping a 7800x3d nice and cool. Decent cooler, even though that plastic fan / pump shroud looks cheesy and tacky, haha. Function over form, I guess? Anyway, thanks for the video good sir.

That plastic VRM fan / pump housing doesn't look bad. It looks cheap, like a 1980s toy. Yet, nobody really cared, because of how well it performs. Nice job, Nicolas, auf Englisch.

my freezer II 280 is still running perfectly fine, after 4,5 years of usage :) 250W TDP is abolutely no problem for it.

Tbf i like the look of the liquid iii water block more than the ii So finding the liquid freezer iii for below £80 was a fucking steal, building my pc next month

In regards to AIOs, Arctic knows what they're doing. But on tests that I've seen, the Arctic 3 would seem to be a only few percent cooler than the Arctic 2. Personally, I'll never buy an AIO. I prefer building custom loops with two or three 420mm copper radiators.

I used to do this too, custom loops. But I realised I change out and upgrade components so frequently that the inconvenience of having to drain the loop, and dismantle everything just to get at a CPU or replace GPU (with a new custom block) was becoming extremely tedious. Now I'm back to either straight air cooling (I really like the Peerless Assassin), or a decent AIO like the Arctic LF II (or III). As much as I loved building custom loops, they got to much too much effort for simple, incremental, upgrades. And while the cooling was a littler better, and generally quieter, I have found I can get pretty close with smart fan set up in a case, custom fan curves, and off the shelf CPU coolers.

@@WSS_the_OG I completely understand. Custom loops, for me, aren't primarily about cooling or reducing noise. They're more of an artistic expression. I find joy in the meticulous process of bending tubing. In my main PC, I run dual loops, and it typically takes three to five days to achieve the desired aesthetic. I believe the investment of time, money, and effort is well worth it. Cheers.

@@OlettaLianoThe satisfaction and esthetics of perfect hard tube bends is difficult to describe, I agree. It's a love/hate thing I guess, haha. Love the result, hate it when I feel like upgrading components ...

@@WSS_the_OG I don't do upgrades often. My main rig is still AM4, with a Ryzen 5900X and an XFX 6900XT on an MSI X570 Unify with 32GB of DDR4 RAM tuned to 3800 MT/s @ CL 14. It does everything I need it to do and should last a few more years.
