I've had the 24-70 G master (version 1) now for two years. At the time it was the best standard zoom on the market. But is it still worth the money with all the other options on the market?

The video I needed, thank you 😊

I totally agree. I'm shooting the GM1 on my A9 for about 3 years and although I own some primes, I very rarely use them as the versatility, max. aperture and IQ of the 24-70 fit nearly every situation.

Great video as usual PJ! I would love to get my hands on this fantastic piece of glass for some live gigs.

Thanks Frankie, it's a killer all around - although I'd say for most local shows I'd still take a nice fast 35mm prime any day

@@PJPantelis yeah I have been taking my 35 and 85 just to get those close up shots of the forgotten drummers. but it would be nice to not have to change lenses and this is probably only zoom lens I would ever use.

@@1adphotographyau943 so funny you say that I’ve recorded a video about shooting drummers because they get forgotten so much! Very true, although you still can’t beat that prime look. The grass is always greener

depends what camera system you use! Godox V1 i've heard is a quite good on camera flash for the money, although I've never owned one myself.

Yeah I actually love this big boi! Great weight and the size is perfect

I don’t even notice the weight to be honest. It was my first lens when moving to a mirrorless system so compared a dslr it always felt comfortable

Is this camera good for videos too like vlogging and sport highlights?
@PJPantelis
@PJPantelis Год назад
It’s pretty heavy for vlogging and personally I would like something a bit wider. Not sure about sports highlights, that might be a job for a longer lens

Which one is best for shortfilm (videography) Gm i Or Gm ii
@dylanyanes
@dylanyanes Год назад
if you’re wanting gimbal & you don’t have the strongest gimbal, I’d go for GM ii but- I’d just try to find the GM1 for under $1,200 USD & buy a wide or tele zoom (whichever one you need more) with the other $1000-ish you would’ve spent getting a GM II

Depends on so many factors. A good 70-200 will pretty much always have a place though!

Thanks for the comment blake. I'm not familiar with that lens but I know Tamron have been making some really good glass in the last couple of years
@thesoundcheck666

@@PJPantelis I’ve got it cause everyone when I was getting into Photo said it’s just the budget version of the g-master 24-70. When I needed a large zoom I looked at comparison videos between the Sony 70-200 f2.8 & the Tamron 70-180 f2.8 & the difference was probably only 1% in quality, 20mm less in length and like a $1k less. So I went with the Tamron. I think you’d have a great insight to comparing the 28-75

You can pay 1500 dollars for GM 1 lens. And years passed,, and someone wants to buy the GM 1 or GM 2... If the person already was thinking about spending that much of money for buying a GM1 for 1500, I am very sure this person can afford to pay 2,000 for GM 2 and get the latest tech. This is not a 500-1000 lens. This is a specialty lens for those who can actually afford to pay much bigger price tag. and for that people bracket, that 1500 VS 2000 doesn't make a real difference that much at all. So for me, GM 1 is NOT worth the money in 2023 because with additional 500, you can buy the best ever you can get.

right now in Canada I can but the gm ii for 3k$ plus tax or there are several options for the gm i for 1600$thats like half the price , I think more people are thinking about it that way now . Im sure I not the only one, I get it with the re sale value though , I would definitely get more for the money in like 5 years if I buy the gm ii , its also the weight and size that im really thinking about too !

NO COMPARISONS!!! JUST FOCUS ON ONE SUBJECT AND ONE ITEM!
@PJPantelis
@PJPantelis Год назад
How can you decide if it's worthwhile if not taking into consideration the nearest equivalent lenses? the value is all relative
@Marine_0317
@Marine_0317 Год назад
@@PJPantelis Well, the answer is simple. When someone creates a video solely on one item, I expect the video to be on just that item. In this case the Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM (1st Generation). It bothers me when they start comparing that lens to other lenses making their content more confusing. If the title of his video was Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM vs Sony 24-70mm f2.8 GM II. Then I wouldn't of bothered clicking on the video because it wasn't the information I was looking for. This is NOT the only content creator that does that, others do it too and it forces me to click forward and skip to the parts that interest me the most. hope this answers your question
