PolyMega All in One retro game console is here! As a part of the PolyMega beta test I received my unit last week. In this video we take a close look at the system. Is it really worth $299? How is the emulation? Does it really run Sega Saturn games? Lets find out!

A few notes: - I was not able to test Input lag. I personally did not 'feel' any lag during my testing. However im told by RetroRGB its sits at around 2-3 frames. For an emulation box this is pretty good. However once i have the equipment i will test this. - I did not receive any of the modules so i could not test any cartridge games at this time - I'll definitely follow up with more testing. Let me know what you'd like to see

I liked my ouya. I had previously purchased the original version of Google tv (both as a standalone tv and as a Blu Ray player) and that platform didn't offer any games. Ouya flopped in part because Google tv flopped completely before it quickly morphed into Android TV. Then games became available so ouya was made completely redundant. A version 2.0 could have been made pretty easily with an improved controller and processor. I think people are overly critical of what the Ouya company accomplished with such little resources. It wasn't perfect but it was actually made and there were some decent games (even if they were just mobile games displayed on a TV). When Razer bought out the scraps of Ouya they gave me a large discount to upgrade to their Android TV box. And that thing was crap. It did include the Ouya software and all of my game purchases from Ouya which was nice, but the Razer hardware was hot garbage.
@BioFactory1
@BioFactory1 4 года назад
The OUYA people had a lot of good ideas, The good ideas just slowly vanished as the console was finally released. It seems alot of cheap shortcuts came along the way as well, All the way down to the controllers being lesser quality. Seriously, the idea of a game system that emulates game systems and allows independent game programmers to design and sell games is a decent idea. The final product was not what it could have been.

I remember getting my Sega Mega Drive for Christmas at 11 and thinking that it was the most amazing piece of technology in the world. I miss that sense of wonder and amazement, but products like this bring that back, if only for a while. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

How bout some honest criticism for once from the select very few individuals who received one "looking at you MVG" holding these people accountable for all their broken promises, poor communication and unending delays. Are you honest or just in their pocket.
@sloebone7399
@sloebone7399 4 года назад
David Trenschel - I know! These select few people receive a beta unit, which they paid for and they make a slick looking infomercial for it. MVG was sent a used console. I’d be pissed and want to know why I’m paying a premium for a 2nd hand unit. What’s in it for the testers? Then there’s the people who paid and have waited years. If they’ve got 100 base units ready to go, why do the beta testers get priority? Just send them to the people who bought them. Again I’d be pissed! The beta is useless except as a stalling device.
@piqone1
@piqone1 4 года назад
@@sloebone7399 I just gave them the option of giving me my unit now and I'll use it to test, do a review on it, send it to a popular retro RU-vidr who I already have an agreement with to let them review it and I'll even mention that this is not a finished product and all they have to do is send me the base unit and SNES module that I have already paid for instead of the alternative which would be me demanding a full refund now and them being out that money and sending a unit they have to pay for to a media outlet for review later. They chose to offer me a refund, blamed a pandemic, and then asked me if there was anything else they could help me with. I felt like saying "yeah, you could give me the system I paid you for" but then they informed me that once they put through the refund my pre-order perks would no longer apply if I wished to buy it later. Almost like they realized they were selling these things to cheap at the pre-order price and if they get people to give up on their orders out of frustration they'd make more on it by selling it to someone else at a later date. Oh well, I should get the refund soon.
@sloebone7399
@sloebone7399 3 года назад
David Trenschel - Thats very cool what you did and kinda slimey what they did Telling you that you’re going to lose out if you decide to get a refund. Its basically a threat. It’s not like they’ve done anything but lie and break promises for the last three years. It’s pure desperation on their part. You’ll look back on this soon and thank god you got out when you did. Of course that’s if they actually refund your money.

Changing your monitor's brightness is a huge pain in the ass as it screws up settings for others systems or games where you don't use scanlines. Nobody wants to dig into their settings and mess with that just to play a certain game, then have to undo those settings to play another game. Most people want to "set and forget." Also, simply upping the brightness can often screw with the gamma and make subtle color gradations almost impossible to see. A much better solution is to simply supply a setting for scanline strength. 40% to 60% often looks perfect depending on the system. This is how the OSSC does it, Analogue Super NT and Mega SG, plus various other devices, emulators, etc.

@@billyrapp7884 One thing that I need to add here: "Look at the price of a fucking console." Not sure you understand that a modern console includes a full assembled computer system and graphics, controller, and network interfaces, while one of the expansions for this console is probably just a custom adaptor from the expansion port to a cartridge slot. This uses software emulation. The most technology would possibly be a tiny amount of circuitry to modify signals from the cartridge. They always make scanlines make the image too dark. Things are not too dark when I play on an actual CRT with scanlines, even if it's darker than HDMI but it sure as hell never looks THAT dark unless the TV is ancient.
@SamPearman
@SamPearman 4 года назад
It's because they just blank every second line so as to simulate a masking grid, but then don't consider the physical nature of the phosphors, which would radiate/bleed out from the centre. Even more annoying if you're used to PAL, because with more vertical lines, there is even less black. The simplest solution (although not truly correct) would be to just slightly dim every other line instead.
