William Gaddis, that man is a great gem. I'm a huge fan of his A Frolic of His Own, Carpenter's Gothic and The Recognitions. Have you read any of these books or his other works? He is a perfect man. I'm a huge fan of him. Great you made this video. Very thoughtful of you
Thank you so much! As for Gaddis, so far I have only read The Recognitions. I actually own JR... I just need to get around to reading both that and the books you mentioned.
I’m about to read Tropic of Cancer so I’m not gonna watch the vid BUT I was wondering if you’ve ever done a “symposium” in the sense that you choose a topic to discuss with friends and think about it for a while then get together to eat and talk about it? This topic strikes me as a symposium topic. And no I have never done a symposium but it is a life goal
I hope you enjoy Tropic of Cancer! I don't think I've ever consciously done a "symposium," but I've had conversations such as the one in this video with my friends Drunzo and Colorless Wonderland plenty of times. I do like the idea of stating ahead of time: we're gonna talk about "x" during lunch. It would probably lead to a deeper conversation.
@@mattsbookshelf4084 Sometimes friends have “presented” ideas to me that I can tell they’ve been mulling over for a good while and WHOA the quality of what they say in those moments…stood the test of time. The same topics can be discussed spontaneously for brainstorming to generate ideas, which is also great. (Like you’ve done with your buddies!) I wonder why people don’t DO symposiums lol
