You won-t crumble my faith in Lord Lilington the greates cat that have ever lived on this planet who is superior being to all stupid inhabitants of my town...
I’ve had my Russian blue for about 12 years now, her name is mystic and she’s only gotten sweeter as she’s gotten older, follows me anywhere I go in the house and always finds a spot beside me when I’m laying down
Mine is 12 going on 13 and she (Josephine/Josie) is my best friend, she's always so curious and inquisitive, look watching n learning. Plus she will ask for affection when we she wants, and is always respectful of new people! I love her to death, my favorite breed.
I rescued a Russian Blue and it is one of the greatest things that ever happened to me! I bred siamese years ago and these cats have all the greatest traits of siamese and then some! I do not suggest them for households with young kids or that are loud for any reason, but if you have a quite household that respects a cat like a person feelings desires and all, they are the GREATEST CAT EVER!
I got my Russian Blue cat at 5months at animal shelter for 30 bucks. Very affectionate, friendly, always wants cuddles and wants to be on anyone's lap, even with children. My 7yr old daughter is so in love with him.
My Russian Blues are the first ones to come out and greet anyone that comes to visit. They are what I call, "House Inspectors", nosey and get into everything including going through shopping bags when we come home.
I just took in an abandoned Russian Blue 6 weeks ago. He followed me into my house when I went to throw away the trash. He was in rough shape and after several visits to the vet he doesn't leave my sight. He's adjusted to my night shift work schedule and we sleep together, sometimes sharing the same pillow. I love him! His name is Fester.
When I was an 8 year old , my mother rescued a female Russian Blue that had lost her owners when they moved house. She became my best friend as we shared temperament being shy, loving, quiet and respectful to others' space. We had a male neutered cat and it was him who was inviting the (neutered) female to our ground floor flat so she could eat. until my mother found it out! Her name was Mounette. She would follow me a little while in the morning when I was walking to school despite the dangerous environment. One day, she went missing. I was sick with worries. A week passed, I had run everywhere in the neighbourhood calling her to no avail. Then one evening there was a knock on the door. A couple with a young boy of a similar age to mine were standing there with tears in their eyes and a cat basket with Mounette calling me. They opened the basket and she rushed in the flat. That's how I learned that she was a much lived Russian Blue, and how she had run away when they were ready to move to a better house, how they kept on looking for her all this time, how they recognised her when she was strolling in the neighbourhood, how they took her home with them. Despite all their efforts , patience and love, she refused food for a week so they had no choice but to bring her back. My cat and I were quite well known so people told them where to find me. So you see it is wrong to think all cats prefer food and comfort to their owners.
Me and my dad are allergic to cats and I really want to get a cat but my dad doesnt like cats so I have been researching different cat breeds and found the Russian Blue. Thank you for this video, I am gathering information to make a presentation on why my family should get this cat. wish me luck (: and thanks for this amazing video (:
I have a Russian Blue, and this video describes her perfectly! She is definitely not a lap cat in the least bit, but every night when I come home from work she jumps up on the table near the door that I enter and wants her pets. We have taught her to ring a bell when she wants to be fed. And she definitely hides when guests come over, meanwhile my other cat who is not a Russian Blue (they get along because we got them both as young kittens) is out and wants to see everyone.
My Russian blue is super affectionate and cuddly. He is most definitely ba lap cat. Anytime I'm sitting or laying down he jumps right up. He's 6 now.. We just got a bunny a month ago, and he is also very accepting of him too. They groom each other. This is definitely not all Russian blues cuz my Russian was very good with our kids. My youngest is 2 and is great with him as well. He will cuddle with both my kids too. He is literally the best cat I have ever had. By far! He also opens our closet doors and kitchen cabinets. Lol.
We had a kitten show up years ago that I wish I could have adopted. However the landlord at the time would not alow pets. It was a Russian Blue. She was a great kitten, but I took her to a no kill shelter. I think about her alot.
Same and it’s fit for my minor cat allergies because they don’t produce that much of the protein that causes the allergy plus it has short hair which is the best for me :)
I have two russian blues and they are the sweetest cats I know. They love to cuddle and don't mind to be alone for a longer period of time. They are also very intelligent, they can open doors for example (not perfect, so had to change door handles), and they get along with my pomeranian dog just fine, even though I got the dog when my cats were already four years old.
Our two russian blue are also very cuddely. One of them always comes jumping on my shoulder, when I sit at the keybord (I use headphones) and play. ALWAYS! We got them September 2020 and we do not regret it at all!
My son has a Russian blue and she loves her meowmaw. And I love my babygirl. She's so sweet and scary smart. She lays literally on top of me . Even when I nap. She's sleep on my hip for hours.
I rescued my Russian blue when he was two years old, he’s now 8 years old. He is the sweetest baby and super friendly with everyone he meets. He is my heart animal, he follows me around like he’s my little shadow and snuggles me every night when it’s time for bed. He gets along great with my other cat who is two years younger, he does prefer his space from our other cat but they get along just fine! I wouldn’t say he’s super independent but he does love to sleep a lot. I did not get my Russian blue because of his breed but I’m so grateful I ended up with him.
I rescued my Russian blue and he was sooo different from my orange tabby night and day really named him Smokey, he always has to be in the same room and follow me everywhere but he doesn't like being held unless it's like a baby and he is the only cat I know that likes belly scratches
I had 2 Russian blues in my childhood that we got together as kittens, my younger brother was just born , they were the most relaxed easy going cats I ever had in my life. A set of brothers with another set of brothers, one of them would sleep in my bed every night the other would sleep in my brothers bed.... you could pick these cats up and put em on the back of a 4 wheeler and take them for a ride. Also I noticed compared to other cats they don't seem to mind water, they would hand on the edge of the bath tub and soak their arms in it and occasionally jump in. Downside is they didn't live very long both under 10 years, i have them cremated and ashes mixed together . r.i.p. twitcher and twoozer
We've got a Russian Blue/tabby. Looks and acts just like one, but doesn't have the eyes. We're a quiet couple with no kids and no plans for kids. This video is spot on. We love our Winnie.
Mine is the most affectionate cat I've ever seen. Every night he wants to lay nose to nose while on putting his paw on my cheek or neck and then he falls asleep
My Russian blue learned quite fast that my bedroom is a no go when I sleep and and when it's time, I just open the door for her and she politely walks outside. I also have friends comming over all the time and she enjoys staying in the same room with us unless she wants to take nap. Other than that she's a pretty good fit to how the breed is described here.
We have two blues Troy and Beaumont. They are very delicate cats and are fearful of strangers. They do actually choose their own favourite person to be with..they can over eat .I’ve built an enclosed garden with high running shelves and roped wood so they can run up high etc..they are beautiful cats with an aristocratic look!!We live in the inner city but would never let them out in the wild..Troy sleeps on a pillow just behind my wife’s pillow then at about 3pm he slides under the duvet!! Delicate is a good way to describe them..they also feel the cold easily I’ve found
We got our blues as kittens but we already had kids. After about 2 years we adopted 2 tabbys and they all get along fine. One of the blues named trogdor has got me a couple times lol.
We have a few and I highly recommend. I somehow question the "they actually prefer to be the only pet" opinion on this video. I've been around roughly ~30 Russian blues and as far I've seen, they love it if they have another Russian blue around them (one of my friends said it best: Russian blues are "racists" - getting another breed with Russian blue is a bit no no, they will hiss and honestly be assholes). Russian blues love to play, but they still need their space. Just to say, most of these videos say that Russian blues are somewhat quiet - it highly depends. Some of them are almost "mute" and meow with the lightest voice ever - sometimes they sound like something straight from the 7th level of Hell. And still they're easily the greatest cat breed ever.
My Russian Blue Sully (James P. Sullivan) is such a lovely cat. He was very scared when we got him and he always wanted to hide for days. He now curls up into my side while I'm lying in bed. He absolutely loves his chest being rubbed too. He's very communicative and loves his cuddles. You are 100% about them not liking change or visitors. Whenever someone comes over, which isn't very often, he'll hide and come out 3 hours after they have left. When I purchased my new king size bed, he wouldn't come into my room for 3 days. On the third day, he walked into the room, eyed up the bed and hissed at it and walked back out. 😂 Him and my Beadie Oscar also get along well. They both like to hang out with each other. I'll throw on an animated movie with animals they'll both watch it together.
@Sci-Fi Admirer I keep mine indoors and rarely put him on a leash to go outside. I have also moved quite a bit so I feel like he might get lost or spooked if I let him out now. I used to let him out in this little backyard I used to have but he ended up catching fleas out there. However it’s up to you and what you feel comfortable with. I was also worried someone might try to steal him lol.
My 17 pound boy wants to be carried around like a baby. My poor shoulder. Lol He requires love and head rubs from not only me but from all who enters my home. My Jealous Green Eyed Big Baby❤️❤️
I have a Russian Blue named Pipic (belly button in Yiddish) and she is the sweetest girl. You can lightly tap her on the nose and she will keep purring for about 30 minutes to an hour. If you are in the house, she will always run up to you and snuggle against your hand. if she cant find you, she will keep meowing over and over for like 20 minutes straight. Pipic loves humans.
My family got a kitten that we had no idea what breed it was, turns out- it was a Russian Blue. We thought he was a Nebelung for a while until he got older. This video answers everything about my crazy Russian Blue. He gets into 'crazy moods' where all he does is act like a fool, jumping up randomly, getting scared of every little thing, sinking his claws into our couch, running around like he's insane. Since we didn't know what breed he was when we got him, I'm glad he suited us well
My Russian, Izabella is a one person kinda cat. Shes very upset with anyone else that tries to come into the picture. I heard this was normal. Shes lovely with me but no one else lol. She grew up with her sister, BUT when they turned about 4, they started to fight and we had to separate them, and that's why my mom has one and I took Izzy in. So this video is SO accurate. Best decision I ever made though ❤
The Russian blue that picked me in my son at the shelter, I've walked up to the cage with my son holding him he's three years old and we're just looking into the cage and then all of a sudden this gray cat comes running up the tree and it climbs up and it's sitting and it's looking at us and we lock eyes, the moment we came into the room she found us like she ran to us like she knew us. My son introduced himself to her but he's not exactly the quiet shy little kid he is loud independent confident, but I told him you got to be gentle you got to sit on the floor and let it come to you so he did and she came to him I mean he kind of twitched when he got up really fast but after a while she started pouring. She is a young short hair Russian Blue she came off the Navajo reservation and I am Navajo so that kind of spoke to me. Now I can't stop thinking about her and her beautiful green eyes. I just hope she's there tomorrow so I can adopt her and if not I'm looking for a kitten I can keep up with my son preferably not one that he's like allergic to and I know it's not the cat that he's allergic to is to fur
To deal with my Russian Blue waking early for food I bought an automatic feeder. Otherwise he yells at everyone in the house non-stop and we end up sleep-deprived. Have to disagree about them not being lap cats. Whether me the kids are sitting on the couch or lying in bed, he is right on top of us! He is sometimes affectionate to the point that it becomes annoying. He is a super friendly cat which unfortunately means he is sometimes taken in by neighbors. I know some will say that he shouldn't go outside but that's where he prefers to do his business - he only uses the litter box if it's raining out or extremely cold. He also wants to be out hunting and will catch and kill anything that flies, hops, or scurries.
My neighboor has two cat and they are both siamese and one is a boy and one is a girl they are siblings but they're kid...(they're kid kept throwing the siamese in the air when hes holding the siamese)
@@FactsaboutCatsVideos yeah, I went on this adoption website, and I was looking for kittens that were small , and he just caught my attention, lovely name too.
I have a Russian blue and he’s not much like the description. He will sometimes lay on my aunts lap for hours or until she gets up. He does however keeps he does keep to himself. We don’t know if he’s full Russian blue because he’s was a rescue kind of. They found his mother but never found the father.
He has grey fur not sure about the pads but he’s eyes are like yellow with a hint of green. The person who rescued his mother said that she was a Russian blue but again my family believes that he might be mixed with a tabby in there. We’re not so sure because we never got the test to see for sure. The only one they found is his mother.
I have 3 russian blues n i love them n the breed my 2 girls n 1 boy are attention hogs bad they prefer touching me but if they can there happy n theve not had any bad health issues its gonna pro Zelda is 25yrs old Cinder is 19 yrs old Sampson is 21 yrs old
Well it's best to stick with food items that are specially designed for cats. You can give her/him a snack or bite of cooked beef, chicken or turkey, fish, cheese, vegies. But all of these, especially cheese and vegies should be given only as a snack and not a full meal.
Now I’m away from home pretty often, but my sister has friends over often. They aren’t loud, but I’m still wondering if this would work for one (or 2!) of these cats.
i have almost all it needs but the only 2 problems are that i can't let it ruin anything(scratch, bite, break..) and that can't sleep with it! should i still get one?
You can be lucky and get a gentle cat that won't break anything. But of course, there is no guarantee. You can also lock them out of the bedroom at night. If they start scratching at the door, there is special foil, which prevents this. Maybe you can also just take in some cats of friends temporarily (for example, when they go on vacation). Then you can test whether it suits you or not.
Hello, could you recommend me a cat? I thought the russian blue would be a good fit for me, and with most of the points you listed, it seems to fit very well. Problem is, that i live in a small appartment with only 3 rooms. So im worried that it wont be enough space. So i would like to know how big of a problem that would be, and if you recommend against a russian blue. I will also have to say that i am an allergic, and react to quite a few cat hairs with a stuffed nose and irritated eyes. I heard that russian blues often do not trigger allergics, so i planned on seeing if i have any problems with them. In addition to that, I am a first time cat owner, although i have owned a dog and a few birds before. I hope you can give me a nod into the right direction of cats to look into maybe :)
What's important is not so much the number of rooms, but how cat-friendly you make your home. That is, if you have enough play, climbing, and retreat opportunities for the cat, then it fits. As far as allergies are concerned, I would strongly advise you to visit a Russian Blue breeder before buying and to try petting the animals there. If you are allergic to them, the only option is probably naked cats, as the Russian Blue is known to produce fewer allergenic substances.
My Russian Blue is the sweetest. He’s also affectionate and friendly with dogs. He’s very shy and sensitive, but friendly with everyone. He does prefer a quiet environment and he does love to sleep with me. He also comes to me when I call him.
Really? Thats good to know. I've never been a cat person but I've been looking at hypoallergenic cat breeds and Russian blues for a long time. Besides the cat urine thing, being able to get along with a dog was my next concern. Glad to hear they are generally friendly with dogs
@@mysterybat35 it depends on the individual, but they’re generally friendly with dogs. The earlier they are exposed and socialize with dogs, the better. My cat also loves to give my Chihuahua cat baths lol.
I have a Russian Blue named Milo, I'm not sure if he is a pure breed because his hair is very long but he has the signature blueish gray coat and green eyes, I adopted him right before the pandemic and he was very shy at first but we connected in the shelter so I gave him some time. Sure enough he came around! He is very classy and smart, sometimes I feel like he is a Dumbledore reincarnate helping me through life. He always gives me a proud look (squinted eyes) when I'm working out or doing something healthy. He follows me all over the house and lets me pick him up and hold him like a baby as often as I want, though I try to be careful and notice when he's uncomfortable via his facial expression because he doesn't scratch or bite at all so I have to be mindful of his boundaries via body language. He is very greedy and bosses me around for food, but I'm a heavy sleeper so I just ignore him until it's his breakfast time. But he's a little rascal, he will cause all sorts of mayhem trying to wake me up. He's also very finicky about his litter and will give a loud disapproving meow if it's not clean enough. When I am on the phone he has his favorite people, one friend in particular he always meows and purrs when he hears her voice. He is an awesome cat, very funny and smart, I love my little boy!
Long fur likely means your cat Is a Nebelung which is the long breed variant of the Russian Blue (which is made by breeding a Russian Blue with a domestic long hair cat). While they both look similar in appearance and are related breeds they are still different enough since they are technically not the exact same breed. I have a Nebelung and have been doing more research on Russian Blues and have found some differences (such as Nebelungs being being prone to obesity and over eating, being suited for apartment living, etc.). I'd suggest reading up more on Nebelungs because it's really quite fascinating and will probably be more helpful since there are differences between the two breeds ^^
@@harrypottermaniac08 oh wow! Thank you, I will definitely do that. One thing I read about RBs is that they absolutely hate change. If I have company he immediately runs to his hiding spot 😔. I'm taking him on a plane with me for the first time and I hope it won't be too bad.
@@tiffanys.4250 @Tiffany S. Yeah my Nebelung hates changes too and is very tied to routine so when it's disrupted she gets really annoyed. As for the running and hiding from strangers, it's definitely a breed-related thing but if the cat is well socialized from a young age this type of behaviour can be prevented. I adopted my Neb when she was 3-4 years old so I didn't raise her from a kitten but I'm pretty sure her first owner must have socialized her well because she's usually pretty good around strangers (she doesn't act as friendly with strangers as she does with me but she doesn't mind them petting her and sitting close to her). Idk about your speicifc cat but a lot of cats are very averse to travelling in planes due to the noise, difference in air pressure, and staying in the confined space of the pet carrier for a long time. Some cats can even get mini panic attacks and stuff if they aren't used to long travels. I'd suggest looking up videos on RU-vid about helping to calm cats down and preparing them for air travel so you can be calmer on the day you're travelling which will help your cat stay calm too. I've never travelled by plane with any of my cats so I can't give you personal experience but I've looked at a few videos online about it in the past and there are a lot of helpful videos out there! Good luck with your travel and I hope you and your Neb canstay safe ^^
@@harrypottermaniac08 After reading this I called the vet and got something that will keep him sleepy and calm during the flight. And then when I get to the house I'm going to plug in feliway. Thank you! Milo is very finicky and moody lol. It took a long time for him to warm up to me and even now he can still be very skittish. He runs away from plastic bags.
@@johntaylor1036 you are going to love her/him Russian blues are the best cat IMO they are very affectionate but don’t get mad and are independent when you leave the apartment
My Russian blues are always attached to my hip and super affectionate. They have separation anxiety when I leave, even just to go to the bathroom. Lol My male especially is a stage 3 clinger. As I type this I have my male laying by my arm and my female curled up in my leg. Smartest cats however..super smart.
I’ve had four cats in the past, I got 2 more after they passed! I have 2 British Shorthairs now and whenever I move out I am getting another 2... So one of them will probably be a Russian blue, so I’m glad I watched this!
My kitten is very affectionate and he does wake me up extremely early (4 a.m.) every day. He doesn't mind my other two adult cats. He is actually great friends with one of them. His eyes are not the beautiful green like the one in this video, they are very golden.
About a half year ago I adopted two bonded brothers who carry all the physical traits of Russian Blues except they both have white bellies and one has a diamond white patch on the chest. So they aren't purebred. They were 8 months and I was told they would not do well with other cats. That same day I adopted another cat. I brought them all home to my little girl so she could have company. They are all one big happy family now. They play, eat, sleep, and groom together.
I adopted my Russian Blue, actually he showed up on my porch one day out of no where, I'm in Alaska and his chip was from Kansas (I'm not sure why or how he ended up on my porch but that's quite a journey for a cat!). He is literally the perfect cat, loves to be in my lap, loves his sister (we had 2 pit bulls and another cat when we adopted him unfortunately I lost my cat and recently lost one of my pitties) but when both of the girls were outside, he literally comes to me and lets me know when they wanted to come back inside, because of him I can understand why these cats are so expensive, he has such an amazing personality and he loves my other animals he gets along with everyone, human or animal. He's very social, always has something to say when I talk to him and hes so good with kids and hes just so stinking cute and funny.
I had a russian blue. He was the sweetest cat that I ever had. He would meet me at my garage door and escort me into the house. Then he wouldn't leave my side. I did get him as an adult and appreciated the fact that there were no kids in the house. He slept at my feet all night. He got me up at 5am every morning. He passed away at the age of 17 last October. Now I'm looking to get another.
I got scammed by shop owner that tell me her kitten is chatreux and I bought him . After that I check it on internet it’s turn out that is Russian blue . But in the end I love him very much .
I had a Russian blue and he was great was very energetic his first 15 years then he chilled out, He was pretty independent he lived till 20years old and had the craziest loud meow, He lived with my other cat she was a calico and lived till 20.
*when I mean energetic I mean he would climb the blinds on the windows run through the vents in the house, Climb to the top of the cabinets. Was a handful but was an awesome cat
We got a Russian blue as a rescue from our local shelter. He was malnourished and had a cyst above his eye. He is now a full-grown beautiful cat, And the sweetest cat I’ve ever owned… and that says a lot since I’ve been around close to 20 in my lifetime. He has all the characteristics of a purebred, except his eyes are more yellow. Is that a variation within the breed?
You gave him a second chance at life! True Russian Blues must have green eyes, lighter or darker shades, but still green :). If yellow, then it means he is not purebred
