If you're wondering why the video looks so different, that's because it was shot in it's entirety on the Pixel 6 in 4k 30fps. I was impressed by the talking head part but the B-Roll is where I think it falls apart.
Yes, I own a 6400 and I pretty much agree with everything you said in this video. I deliberately went for it because of the size and the price. If I'd had the bank balance for it at the time, I would definitely have gone for the 6600 instead, and now the 6700 is released... Well, wishing is something I guess... But the point of my purchase was that, with getting older, it was getting just a bit tired to be carrying around a full frame DSLR with a bunch of lenses. I wanted something smaller and easier. I experimented with a superzoom bridge camera for a while and while I got some good shots out of it, I also had to live with the compromises that come with having the superzoom lens. I was, frankly, used to better glass. So, to replace that, and being on a pension, I had a price point and weight limit I was considering. The standard 6400 kit fit the bill and so I ordered it. 2 weeks later I nearly returned it because that kit lens... well, everyone must have heard the stories and I have to say they're true. How can you put such a shit lens on such a good camera Sony? Come on! Yet I did find that the range of the standard zoom covered most of my needs. So I was very pleased when Sigma released their excellent 18-50 f2.8. This is such a good lens! Small and yet such quality! No stabilisation, but adjust the shutter speed accordingly. People have often thought I had used expensive primes for some of my photos - this zoom really is that good. The result, a kit within a price point that is plenty good enough for most of my needs. Occasionally I wish for a wider lens or a tele... One can crop and then use AI to fill in the details, but despite the amazing results you just know in your bones it is a compromise. Then there's Photoshop's AI generate for giving a wider angle and yes, good results, but still a compromise. So I was pleased when Sigma recently released their new 10-18 wide zoom. Got to save my pesos for that one... Everyone has talked about Sigma's "holy trinity" of primes for APSC. I would guess they're mid-way through creating a "holy trinity" of zooms. I hope the next will be a 50 to 200, but I would guess that, to keep the quality at the best, it is more likely to be 50-105. If I get that "holy trinity" I may complete the system with Sony's rather good tele converters to extend the reach. But I can't help wishing my budget was more and that I could get that 6700. Stabilisation is something which, as I get older, I discover I need more. Tripods are heavy... I have a carbon fibre monopod and that helps a lot. Perhaps I should begin a blog about photography for the elderly....

I just did the same as well. And like yourself I was doubting the upgrade choice. But now I think that I made the right decision. For me it came down to the A6400 vs the A6600, as the A6700 is just too pricey. While I really wanted the IBIS, my understanding was that it just wasn't worth it.
I have an A6400, and I've been using it for years. I initially bought it for product photography, but I've moved on to other things. I recently purchased a Laowa 100 mm f2.8 2X macro lens. It is a full-frame lens, but it works just fine with the APS-c format. The lens is fully manual, but it's a total blast getting into the tiny details most people overlook, and it forces me to work in manual mode. My favorite shot so far is a dew drop on a blade of grass with the sunrise and skyline inverted in the drop. I love my little camera. Eventually, I will go full frame, but for now, I'm just having fun with what I have.
Thank you, got myself a6400 few months ago after Nikon Z fc for photography and totally happy right now. I've combined it with Sigma 18-50 f2.8 lens, and have a great results with this lightweight and compact combo.
Thanks for the great review and for reminding me that I made the right choice to purchase this camera. I am very happy w/the results so far since I'm not a pro and will use the camera mostly for photos w/ ocasional video shooting. Looking forward to more videos from you. ✌
Haven`t watch the video, but the question is very stupid. I`m using nikon d90 and it actually amazing camera for beginner. Now I`m prepearing for buying sony a6400 and it`s obviously worth it in 2024
A6400 is an amazing beast of a camera! Low light, regular light, sport situations, portrait, landscape, not yo mention the AF...I pair it with the sigma 56 mostly, crazy combo Love this camera
I considered the R50 and R100, watched the reviews which seemed good, but was put off with the kit lens that comes with it, it sounded limiting and slow but then looking at lenses was shocked at the prices of the seemingly non existent stock. Funnily enough no reviewer mentioned the a6400 as a potential alternative, which I will end up going for due to the decent kit glass but also the selection of lenses.
Cameras are evolving really quickly. But I don't mean "worth" as whether or not it's worth using but more-so whether it's worth getting. Because cameras are evolving as quickly as they are, the question of whether a camera is worth the price it's sold at is more important than ever.
I am using an a7iv for work and want a second body for fun daily use which is also light weight! Fuji x100v is very expensive so the 6400 seems to be a good option.
i just buy de sony a6400 before i shoot with canon 760d en 90d was my last canon the program from sony to work after on your raw , there i must practise the program with caon is so easy
I don’t care about video! I just want a decent camera. I want something small that isn’t a cellphone, and has interchangeable lenses. I’m a woman with smaller hands, so I’m excited about the size. I bought the camera with the kit lens, and I’ll probably be fine. But I can always upgrade later.
I've went with Nikon Z30(kit) instead of the Sony A6400(kit). Was cheaper and the only compromise was the lack of the EVF. Probably in the future if the budget allows it and needs increase I will consider the new Sony A6700. What do you think? Was a good decision? Is the Nikon Z30 a good fit for a begginer?
Really informative video. I watch a lot of local bands in pubs and outdoor venues, mostly in the evening where there is generally low light and changing light from stage lights. I would love to take good gig photos. Full frame is logical option for this but in my price range they are all so old - A7II for example. Will the 6400 crop sensor be ok with this type of photography? I am a complete novice btw. Thanks.
It's completely possible to get the a6400 to work for that when combined with a good lens with a wide aperture, but a full frame will get you good results easier. The A7II is still a completely fine camera for photography but the AutoFocus is a little on the slower side. It will still require a good lens and Full Frame lenses will be more expensive so that's something to keep in mind as well.
I want to buy a Camera, I'm thinkin between the ZVE10 or the a6400 for photos o: The main goal for the a6400 is the weather seal.. but the ZVE10 have a flip and tilt screen.. idk, very hard for me to choose one xD
For photos, the a6400 is definitely the better option. The better ergonomics, weather sealing, EVF and better build quality definitely make up for the features it's lacking. And while I do find myself longing for the flippy screen, I wouldn't sacrifice the things that are better in the a6400 for it. If I was getting a camera for purely video though, then that's a whole different story.
bro it really depends what u plan to use it for,mostly . ur sryle is more pf run and gun, or more of an indie or studio ise.. do u olan to dive into editing heavily ur footage . do u plan to buy accessories or want it more low profile? i can try help u come to camera u need,if u want..but ask urself what do u plan to use it for . than we can go from there.. If you're considering the Pocket Cinema 4k, then I would say that the a6400 isn't the one you should be pitting that against. Is there a reason as to why you're not considering the ZV-E10? But as In Di Go said, it really comes down to what you're looking to do with the camera, what sort of budget do you have, what sort of accessories you plan on getting and more. Sadly, it isn't a simple "which is better"- question, because the context can and will determine the answer.
how's it going for canon r50 over sony a6400? as I'm a beginner, help me to choose the right first camera for me. Mainly I want to buy a entry level budget mirrorless camera for both photography and videography. But photography is the 1st preference.
The a6400 is great for video but it doesn't have any stabilization like the R50 does. But personally, my priorities regarding the much more expansive Sony E-mount lens selection and the weather sealing would get me to choose the a6400 over the R50. But, your priorities may be different. Both will get you great photos and video as long as you pair them with a good lens. So it's more important to look at the other features of the camera and see what has the more appealing features for your specific use-case.

I have the same camera like you , now I bought a 90mm macro lense and 24-105mm F4 G OSS This only a private hobby of mine I’m still learning all of these unit. Personally, I use On1 Photo Raw. After trying many different options On1 turned out to be my favorite. I got a review video of it on my channel if you want to see it in action.
I would like to switch to the a6400 camera, but I currently own a Nikon D5600 with a Sigma 17-50 lens. I'm attached to this setup and I'm wondering if upgrading to the Sony system will be a significant leap. Should I sell my Nikon D5600 and switch to Sony? I know that switching systems can be costly, but is it worth it? I only take photos, and when I record videos, I use my iPhone 13. If not Sony, what camera would you recommend specifically for photography? I’m not interested in full-frame because it’s beyond my budget.
This would be my first camera and I’ll mainly be shooting video and photo of motocross and racing. Is there anyways to get stabilization via a lens or edit?
Lenses with OSS will give you some stabilization but in my experience, it is a very slight improvement even when you stabilize it in post. Personally, I strongly recommend getting a gimbal.
Doesnt canon R50 or R10 have more than enough affordable(>1000e) lens options from EF and 3rd party selection, if i would use the adapter? Asking as a beginner? Im torn between Canon and sony rn.

So you forgot about lens with oss 🤦🏿♂️ Sony 35mm F/1.8 oss Sony 50mm F/1.8 oss Sony 10-18 F/4 oss Sony 55-210 F/4.5 oss. Tamron 17-70 Lens that's stable and looks sweet for video.
Good catch on that. I didn't mention OSS lenses because I don't find their added stabilization to be anything to write home about. It can get you a slightly slower shutter speed when taking photos but the difference in video is pretty much negligible once you run a clip through stabilization in something like DaVinci Resolve. It helps, but doesn't suddenly make the footage stable. So, if you're able to get stable footage with lenses using OSS, you would've been able to get it stable without OSS.
I use an a6000 and 55-210mm kit sony lens and I just can't auto focus, it will only sharpen lets say the eye of the bird and none of the feathers. I also as a result manual focus and lose my shot half the time as bird has flown away. How is the a6400 with the 70-350mm focus and the sharpess of getting the whole body of a bird?
That is a very interesting way to interpret the question. The question I impose with it is aimed to be whether or not it's worth considering, buying or getting, but even if you see it as me asking whether or not it's worth keeping, I still answer the question as 'yes' so I don't really see what prompted your reply.
