Is the Subaru WRX or STI even fast?
Everybody wants a fast WRX and fast STI, but is it possible. Definitely not out of the box. But with lot's of money and time maybe.
In this video, I discuss whether or not the WRX and STI are even fast? How to make the Subaru WRX fast, and how to make the STI fast. I talk about the Mustang GT here and the Nissan GTR as well. I address, is the Mustang GT fast and is the Nissan GTR fast.
There is a little discussion on WRX vs STI as well (WRX or STI).

95% of races happen side by side on the highway. That's why when I bought a car I wanted to prioritize power. That's just my preference. I have nothing against budget track cars and I think they're very fun to drive, I just wanted the power more. So I settled on the older 6.1 SRT. I do have to say though that I enjoy rolling up to STi's GTi's, and Type R's whenever I can. It's kind of hilarious when a 14yr old Charger can put bus lengths on a $40,000 Type R.

I have wanted a WRX since the time I saw the first commercial on TV way back in 2002 and last year I was able to get one. I finally got a 2018 WRX but I have to say part of me wishes it were more than it is. I agree it is a fun car to drive and for a daily commuter it works, but I wish is were quicker. Would it be worth just going to stage 1 with a Cobb access port?

If it’s the STI then your ment to tune it. Supra for example only comes out the factory 300 ish bhp. It’s the mods it’s capable of a lot more. I myself have a WRX blob eye with just a tune I’m up to 300bhp and the car eats most cars on the road no problem. You bring up some pretty awesome points. There are so many things to take into consideration; mostly practicality too. A fun whip like a Charger Hellcat; not practical for a fellow New Englander like me. GTR would be lovely, but kids....and all the monies. I've kicked tires on a BRZ as the playmobile lol. I'm a year and a half into ownership on my CVT WRX and no mods; and it's a fun, playful ride. I'm not out to win drag races on my way to Stop & Shop. Auto Enthusiast Pretty good. I’ve dabbled with power mods, but I’m reluctant. I really don’t get to go on fun, spirited drives in it (aside from a few when MA was pretty locked down!) so I just hold off. I exchanged emails with the guys at BrenTuning and they quoted me some mods to put me around 300hp-ish. Lot of investment for very little return. Laughably slow. I'd assume it's safe factory tune that sorts knock out is a part of the issue, then again, if it knocks, it's questionable of the build quality and design. I am aware that the sensor can pick up knock from shit unrelated to its actual combustion cycle. Fuck subarus, also. Must mention, spun bearing at somewhere close to 28k miles. Never until just recently have I even exceed 5k, not that it matters, took all it had to overtake a damn prius going 60mph on the interstate. Fucking slow, nahhh, glacial.
@KazimirPashkevich
@KazimirPashkevich 4 года назад
One thing to keep in mind about speed (that I think you briefly touched on) is, no matter what, you are always making a sacrifice for more speed. Be it money, reliability, handling, noise, comfort, etc... but when you increase speed you decrease something else (or multiple at once). There is no car that is just the best in every category and still fits in your budget (unless you have unlimited funds of course and parts are available to make it so). So at the end of the day, before you make a decision, you have to ask yourself how much is speed a priority to you really and what are you willing to give up to get it (for example, is it worth getting/building the fastest car compared to all others for the price if let's say it's less reliable and you'll be breaking down more often, then you won't get to enjoy it being fast as often as a slightly less fast car that is more reliable, this is of course an extreme example here but something important to think about as many people are a lot more fine with break downs when they buy it then when they get it and realize they actually have to annoyingly deal with it more than they initially thought). As you mentioned, the WRX and STI are not about pure straight-line speeds so if you get these cars you kind of have to know that you're accepting and are ok with that going into them because you value the other benefits these cars give you more. And also just to touch on the point of fast vs. quick - for that you really have to ask yourself are you going to ever actually use the "fast" part of the car that it beats over another car. If you're buying the car to have it be a track car then of course there are no speed limits and "fast" is an absolute valid spec. But if you're still planning to daily the car and mostly have it street driving then unless you're acknowledging that you're continuously planning to go over (for example) 155 mph on the street (which the WRX is capable of), "fast" is less important than "quick". When it comes to speed for street driving, it's not about your top speed but how soon you get to the ones reasonably allowed on the street. And in any case it's very difficult to answer the question of whether any car is fast or quick because everyone sees either of those as something different. It doesn't have to be the top of the category and still be "fast" or "quick" for someone, and for others even the top of the category will never be enough. At the end of the day, it's all up to personal preference, what you're planning to use the car for, what aspects of a car you prioritize, and of course the budget you can all fit it into. Taking all that into account that will be the way you find the "best" car for you.
@AutoEnthusiast
@AutoEnthusiast 4 года назад
Preach! Couldn't agree more.
@remissiveslave
@remissiveslave 3 года назад
This is a very fair point, that kinda got lost on me tbh. If you want a cruiser/fast car, the wrx or sti from factory isn't a great choice, though with very notable risks concerning adding power as far as reliability is concerned, they can beade fast or quick or both, but idc whst internet idol anyone has or dick rider trying to sell merchandise says, these motors aren't suitable for tuning and modding in access. They can be made better for zipping about without going nuts. Really does come down to how you want to use it, but some people learn the hard way that these engines are very susceptible to catastrophic engine failure if pushed to far past factory spec. Its not cheap either, which is why it's worth seeing if you can buy a car that is fast or whatever from factory first. Some like the journey of modding and the culture, u used to, until I realized how much of a headache it is.
