I remember getting hyped seeing sub 4 second 0-60 cars popping up like crazy 10 years ago, now we're starting to see sub 2 second cars. Come 10-15 years we'll start seeing sub 1 second 0-60 times and I'm all for it!
This really puts Fast & The Furious into perspective. Imagining Brian’s Eclipse pulling a sub-ten second time seems like much more of a stretch than it used to.

9:27 I don't understand why I often hear the plaid was not designed for drag racing. ( it isn't as extreme as something like Dodge Demon) but it's largest selling points are its ability to launch and ablity to beat any current production car in the 1/4mile and most vehicles with over 1000hp tend to be quick.
Of course it was designed as a dragster but unlike a Hellcat its also an economical family sedan. The Plaid gets those numbers on street tires not racing slicks. As a daily driver it has Prius like fuel costs as long as you don't drive it like a maniac although I suspect that many of the people who buy Plaids probably drive like maniacs. The only reason to buy a Plaid vs the standard Model S is to take it to a dragstrip. Anyone doing 2 second 0-60s or 150MPH on a public street should go to prison except in Germany where it's legal.

Nürburgring laptimes is a 'specific set of conditions' for the Tesla apparently. Fast but not an absolute record time because a handful of cars with petrol engines are still faster than the S Plaid. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S, for example, with a lap time of 7:23.009, as well as the Jaguar XE SV Project 8 which did 7:18.361 for a lap. The Porsche Panamera Turbo also drove a faster time, 7:29.81 last year than the Tesla which did 7:30.909.
The Porsche and merc did times around the 6:40s. There a lot of petrol cars faster than Plaid. And considering how a lot of the petrol cars have near half the horsepower of the plaid, it is a pretty crap track car. I remember seeing a focus st beat a Tesla model 3 and p85D as well. They suck at track unfortunately. Maybe the roadster will be different.

It's all German cars. The government tests and reports the 0-60 times and doesn't let the manufacturer say what they want. It's why people rarely ever get close to a manufacturer's 0-60 time with American cars. My car's 0-60 was said to be 3.6 seconds....I've never broke 4.0. But whatever a German manufacturer says...its easy to obtain or get close to that number.

Seems like a fairly obvious route to go for getting a real competitive drag-ready Tesla would be having something like a half-size battery. Sure you can pull the passenger seats, pull anything in the trunk you don't need, etc.. to reduce weight, but the battery in a Model S is somewhere around 1300 pounds. A half-size battery at 650lbs would make a huge difference to it's track times.
I put mine in track mode and it preconditions the battery, but 8 months out of the year here in PHX or takes all of about 5 minutes to get to optimal temps. The difference between a cold and warm battery isn't HUGE, but when you're playing a numbers game of 2/10 second it makes a difference. All that goes out the window however when you don't account for 1ft rollout, all manufacturers count their 0-60 by subtracting the rollout distance, and dual motor Teslas are already going like 7mph when they break that beam. If you're using something like a DRAGY, which I use for laptimes and set up testing, the standing 0-60 is about 2/10 slower
"Is the Tesla Plaid ACUALLY that fast?" No, it isn't all that fast but it IS VERY quick. I have discovered most people don't know the difference between the words "quick" vs. "fast." "Quick" is a measure of time. A car that does the quarter mile in 8 seconds is quicker (not faster) than a car that can do the 1/4 in 8.1. "Fast" is a measurement of speed. It's how far a vehicle travels in an amount of time..as in MILES PER HOUR.
Quick is NOT a measure of time. Fast is NOT a measure of speed. Those are just two words that are USUALLY used to describe the two. In order for it to be quick, it has to run fast. A car that does the quarter mile in 8 seconds got there quicker, but it was also faster (average speed) than the car that does it in 8.1 sec. Sorry.
14:25 Its funny just the other day The guy from the tesla plaid channel may have a loophole to counteract that staging process. Apparently the car rolls forward a little when in launch mode, so this detail could be used to stage up to the lights if you get it just right. Still the cheetah stance is kinda dumb, that's just me.
@@ShneekeyTheLost according to guinnes, "50 mechanicly same cars" have to be built for it to be a production car. No matter the price. Also, you can walk into a dealer, lay down the cash and buy one right now. Wondering why its 2.5 mil? Because someone had to pay for the 10 of them that were crash tested, and only 150 will be made, so they made the price so after 150x2.5 mil, they wil have enough profit for the crash tests
My favorite argument is "but it's got no soul!!". Listen, go get in a 100d or a plaid, have the driver punch it from a dead stop and you'll understand it has no soul because it has successfully snatched yours out of you with the craziest acceleration you'll ever feel in your life to date.
Yes I’ve asked many tesla drivers to come up to the hills for a run. Asked to attend a track day. Funny enough not one has attended. Even asked the showroom salesman can I take the car up to the hills for a test drive being so called performance car. Answer no. Ferrari Porsche Lotus have no problem with this. I wonder why
@@koruki when they know you are a true customer with the resources to follow through with the purchase yes, all have provided a test drive other than Tesla which says how much they believe in their products. Unfortunately Lotus, Ferrari and Porsche must not have confidence in your ability to purchase their products hence your experience perceived or otherwise. LOL

Yea but the difference is the nevera is a hyper car that costs over $2 million and is a highly impractical track built race car, so imo that’s why the plaid is so much more impressive, u can have a family a family car with cool tech, and still go faster than anything else on the road, if that doesn’t impress u like it does everyone else then ur just not a car guy
You lost me when you started comparing a 2 million dollar prototype to a production car that I can go buy right now with my dads credit card. Yo yeah you’re a joke
@@Shagedog10 The record isn’t for the fastest car under x amount of dollars, it’s for the fastest production car. So the price tag of all parties involved in that sense isn’t really relevant, unless we are going to say that hyper cars should never count as production cars because they are not open ended (limited to x examples per model). In which case, that changes a hell of a lot of records and concepts. Legally, there is no set definition of a production car so by what standard are we going?
I would like to use this video to give my thoughts on Tesla’s interior design. The fact that everything is in a I-Pad infotainment screen, and I absolutely hate everything about that.
Yeah gonna have to agree here. What if a kid gets mad one day and smacks and cracks it up? What happens when you can't control AC cause the touch screen no longer works? Probably not a sub $1000 repair
As someone who has driven a plaid multiple times (very aggressively) it is still a fast car. Me and my buddy who owns it (17 and designs video games so not daddy’s money) have gone to Mexico a few times and have yet to be beat. Closest race was with a Yamaha R1 doing a 50-150, Yamaha fell back by about the length of a door during the race. We’ve raced 9xx hp mustangs and even a 13xx hp stang and neither one could win. People forget that the electric torque is non stop. There is no powerband. The Tesla gets 100% all of the time. The 1020hp in a car that with driver and co pilot weighs over 5000 pounds still beats damn near anything out there. People shit on the plaid but for $130,000 used, you can kick everyone’s asses and save a ton of gas money. Not to mention it’s a very comfortable car to be in. Also no the battery doesn’t die after 2 pulls, after using plaid mode the battery went down 2%
I remember when Jeremiah first made his appearance on donut and I'll I could think was "who is this fool and why is he taking time away from my sweet baby James" but now I'm just so glad to see a video from him, a valuable addition to donut!
The really exciting prospect in my view, is how these cars will change the customization scene in the future. Just imagine maybe 15 years from now, when old Plaids are still around running the same motors and controllers, but higher power density cells are available and you can get the same output from a modified car that's 1000lb lighter.
