I got a Bobber Black. I love it. I get about 54-57 mpg or 4.1-4.8 l/100km. Only thing I would do to improve the stock bike would be adjustable suspension. Im 6ft 270lbs so I could lose weight, it be cheaper lol. Other than that its great, even on longer 6 hour rides during weekend trips with a back pack an tank bag for storage. Maybe some would like it to have more lean before the pegs scrape. As a new rider, an it being my first bike it keeps me from over doing it in corners. Im ok with that. It is plenty fun, and looks great stock. I added a bunch of Triumph Accesories, but no performance only style.

I was leaning toward the Sportster 48 and I loved it when I took the 48 for a test ride, but the riding position was not totally comfortable, my upper body was hunched over forward. I am looking at the Triumph Speedmaster Bonneville, which appears to have a more upright riding position, my preference at 5'8''. Any feedback on the Sportster riding position would be appreciated.

I own a Thruxton 1200 and it is a brilliant bike. I'm a lard ass and get over 50 mpg riding it like a fool. I rode with a light guy who had the R (before he wrecked it). He was getting better than 60 mpg. I'd say the Bobber would easily be good for over 100 miles before needing to start looking for a gas station. Triumph wanted to keep it consistent with their old bikes and gave it a chain, but frankly, I'd like it much better with a belt. With those low slung pipes and triangle swingarm, lubing that chain is going to require some clever angling. I'd probably add a Scottoiler and call it a day. There are aftermarket forward controls available for it for taller riders. Triumph will surely have their own soon too with the upcoming release of the Speedmaster. Bars are an easy switch too. You can't go wrong with these Triumph twins. They are stone ax reliable and the 1200s got plenty of go.

I've had the standard bobber a couple of years, closest thing to a flawless machine i've ever ridden. My only complain is the turnsignals don't self-cancel (oh how we suffer. ;) ) I think reviewers make too much out of the "bobber"" thing. It's just a flawless roadbike if you're not touring. I wish they had called it something else, like maybe just a B120 or something, then people wouldn't fixate so much on the word. (Plus it's a stupid sounding word.) And even touring it's not as bad as people say, throw a rucksack on your back, the seating position and seat itself are comfee. People used to tour the world on whatever they had. As for the tank size, it's more than enough range for most places between filling stations, even out on the central plains.

I to have ridden the HD 48, Triumph Bobber and the Indian Scout in my quest to find the best mid size cruiser. I love my big touring Electra Glide but for country rides and city commuting it's a big girl to roll around. I have owned 4 Sporsters in my riding days and the 48 just didn't feel much different than all the others, although much quicker still the same feel through the bars and I was looking for a smoother ride but not an metric bike. The Triumph has tons of power but it falls off quickly in the rev range as did the 48 and the fact that it felt like I was riding a Sportster on steroids. That combined with the shorter fuel range, chain drive and the faux parts led me to buy the Indian Scout Sixty. It has better power delivery into a higher RPM range, it's a smother riding machine all around, has a larger fuel capacity and belt drive and just has that modern day Bobber look. I chose the sixty purely for the overall look with the blacked out look pretty much everywhere and the lower price kept me in the price range I was comfortable with. Being slightly down on overall horse power really didn't matter to me as it was bought for solo riding and to highly modify, however I was still impressed with the power of this slightly smaller power plant.

It's funny how it never fails, no matter what the video is about, there's always the comments saying "but this is better" or "i dont like this because it does this and something else doesn't" It's just a sea of this has this, and this doesn't have that... Can we all agree there's no perfect bike out there, never has been and never will be that gets the tick from every rider? Choice of bike should be what your heart says yes to. Triumph Bobber, Indian Scout, Harley 48, etc, etc.....It's a wonder any of these bikes sell at all going by the comments here!! Apparently every one of them are shit in some way. You cant please everyone, there's always that element out there who whinge over the slightest thing and the smallest detail turns them off for life! Go with the bike that puts the biggest smile on your face as you ride it out of the dealers, that's all you need to worry about and stay safe!

I’m liking these bobber videos. I just bought the new scout bobber with abs. I’m loving it coming from riding sport bikes a long time ago it doesn’t feel a whole lot different. It DEFIANTLY has the power and with the foot controls being more foward I am slightly leaned foward which is reminiscent of the sport bikes I used to ride. Plus to me it was the best looking with the triumph coming in second.

I almost love the Bonneville Bobber's look. I love the bobber look. I want to bob my own Honda VLX 600. The thing I don't like is that the line of the bike, with the seat so far forward, doesn't look so streamlined to me. I know you can move the seat back, but I think it does require tools. I've been meaning to ask the dealership to do that, but I think they might not be keen on the idea. They should, if I'm itching to verify if I like the look, and riding position. If I did pull the trigger on a new bike, this bike would be it. I'm glad they're adding the black. Cruise control sounds awesome. Edit: Oh, the other thing, for me, is that the handlebars are not angled as much as my own bike that I've gotten used to. The Bonneville Bobber feels weird; more like a mountain bike, which I'm not used to. But this is just sitting on it in the showroom, and not on the road. I probably(?) will get used to it. Edit x2: I'm used to 100 miles per tank, as my VLX 600 has 2.9 gallons.

Forward controls on a bobber make no sense. Triumph got it right with mid controls! Forward controls are only for touring, a bobber with a small tank and lighter weight is for the twisties and general street hoolaginism.

Nice review, my first street bike was a Bonneville, chopped, stripped and bobbed back in the early 80s, It was impractical and a lot of fun. Currently I just picked up a HD 48 last week, Just loved the look of the thing. I know that 2.1 gallons is not much. In Fact the bike does not like to pass any gas station without whimpering for me to stop and fill her up, but she is a lot of fun to ride. I have always loved the bobbed look. I looked long and hard at the Indian Scout, was just about to buy the thing when my heart strings got pulled by seeing a red 48 at the dealership and it was all over. I think that the Scout would have been in my garage if I had not seen that red, after all it does have so much to offer including fuel capacity. But then I have a Star Raider for when I need to do road mileage, the 48 is all about town. I think the scout is going do good and maybe HD will release a water cooled 1200 to answer to it. HD is changing a lot lately. I hope indian does good and they do not have the Victory syndrome. I feel we need another strong American brand on the market just to keep things interesting

Dan, excellent review, yet again. I have a Triumph Street Twin (which is most excellent) and I have test rode a Bobber several times. It's really a good bike, great ride from the engine to the handling of the bike. Get on one and you'll see for your self. I will say the seat can take its toll on you after awhile. I had one Bobber over a weekend and the seat did start to wear on me. That could have been because I was riding it like my Twin, the seats are totally different, but I'm sure it would be something I could adjust to if I had the bike in my garage. Either way, it is an excellent bike which I"m sure you would enjoy.

Harley should hang their heads in shame over the flaws in their twin cam motors. They haven't even tried to fix it.

Too bad most triumphs are made in Thailand, Harley's are at least assembled in the U.S....

Too bad Harley hasn't kept up with young riders and on the brink of going out of business. I don't see them lasting too much longer and you can see them shift gears (no pun intended) by trying to focus on smaller bikes for countries like India.

That's not a bobber. Full fender, ABS, riding modes. Just because it has a floating seat doesn't make it a bobber

The modern bobber is modeled after the 1940s and 1950s Harleys, that had the floating seat, this the name bobber. Those had full fenders and all and they are still bobbers.

I guess the new Harley's aren't Harley's because they don't sound like Harley's. SMH.

Tyler Fair the rear fender is short like an original bobber. Also mid controls, single seat and much lower weight than the mentioned Harley and Indian make it much closer to what a bobber originally was!
