Disagree about Bomberman. It’s a Hudson Soft game and was more at home on Turbografx than others.

So wrong about Dungeon Explorer. Gauntlet + RPG elements. it's amazing.

One of my OLLLLLLLD pals, his dad owned a rental store way back in the early 90s and had a Turbografx system they would rent out to people and it was the only chance I ever got to play one. I still have fond memories of it it was a really cool system, especially at the time.

When I was young, my mom wouldnt let me have one because I already had a Genesis. Now Konami wont let me have one, talk about nostalgia.

"This console was made with love.." , 10 mins later "This console is only about making money.." Wut.

Is it just me, or do both of these guys seem like they are on the verge of insanity?

Neutopia I & II are great games if you really stick with them and give them a chance. They had a lot of cool ideas, like a subterranean layer to the world map.

Glad this video isn't just Mike shitting on the mini, like he did for the Genesis mini. I know that's the joke, that he's a retro gaming purist, but I was genuinely interested in buying one, but needed to see an honest review to make sure it wouldn't be another AtGames trash fire.

I had a TurboGrafx 16 back in the day & it boggles my mind that they left off Legendary Axe 1 & 2 & Devils Crush? What were they smoking?

I can't believe you didn't mention how good Ys Book 1 & 2 is. I still play that on my Duo. :)

Both Gradius 1 and Gradius 2 on the PC-Engine get an exclusive stage that's only in the PC-Engine version of the games. Also, M2 added a secret to this mini console where you can play enhanced versions of Gradius 1, Salamander, and Fantasy Zone that makes the presentation closer to their arcade counterparts.

I’m definitely considering getting this because I like Turbografx, never owned one, and I really don’t want to go through the nightmare of collecting for it.

Cant wait for the Tiger Handheld Classic/Mini.

Motoroader was a blast to play with friends. Give it another try.

I plan on getting this since I never owned a TurboGrafx.

Lol I used to have a blast playing China warrior. It was cool that characters got real time damage and your character had ridiculous special moves that I had no clue how to do.

Neutopia games were staple for the system, even if they were clones. I remember I enjoyed them back in the day.

I really want one of these . If you’ve ever watched High Score Girl, this system is prominently featured on it. I’ve been wanting to try China Warrior and Genji since seeing it. If you haven’t seen this show, you truly should . A love letter to video gaming in the 90s and a great romantic story to boot!

I am going to have to stop him at Dungeon explorer. This game was amazing in that you could play with up to 5 people. This is what gauntlet wanted to be.

Let's not talk about the gems like ys book 1 and 2

R-Type was the best on this console back in the day, besides the arcade and now mabye the ps1 collection this version of r-type is the best, without a doubt the best 16bit console version. you guys acted like it was a bad version and there was much better versions that are easier to access. R-Type on TurboGrafx is FANTASTIC

I’m just starting the video but I can’t find any evidence that Legendary Axe 1 or 2 are on this. Thats a deal breaker for me. Needs to have Keith Courage and World Class baseball also but I could have still bought it without those two. WTF

Neutopia I and II are awesome, dungeon explorer is great as well there are a ton of fun games on here. I own about half the library here. Although I do agree legendary axe I and II, bonk 3, and Keith courage should have been on here. Also sidearms is a great game on tg16

Thanks Cinemassacre for introducing Turbografx 16 to me. Because of that I found Castlevania Rondo of Blood and it's immediately became my favorite Castlevania games.

Magical chase is really good. Also problem with the mini is that there are no eng subtitles for Japanese library, even for rpg and point and click adventure such as snatcher

The reason China Warrior and some of those other weird games were on there is because they were cinsidered big classics for the PC Engine.

Bonk was huge! I remember playing in a bonk tournament in the mall in the mid 90s. I actually made it to the next round, but there was no way my parents were taking me back to the mall just for a video game tournament !! heheh

The original Japanese PC Engine was more mini than this TurboGrafx-16 Mini. I can't wait to see a min of that!

There is a secret command to play the "arcade" versions of Fantasy Zone, R-Type and Gradius on the Turbografx mini by just holding the Select button while booting the games.

I love River City Ransom on the Turbografx 16. For me, it has the most catchiest Double Twins theme. It start sweet and adorable, and then the guitar kicks in!

"J.J. & Jeff" is named "Katochan Kenchan" in Japan and it is based on 2 comedians very popular there, Cha Katou and Ken Shimura (who recently died because of the virus, rip...) The name of the game and the look of the characters were changed for the western audience because those 2 comedians are not very famous outside of Japan and some asian countries. I think the whole point of the game is to be like a giant joke, kind of the Penn & Teller game that AVGN made a video about it.

I just want to point out the Motoroader back in the day, with a few friends, was a laugh riot! Some of the fondest gaming memories i have are having huge sessions with 5 controllers in my room with 4 friends crammed in there, always one guy complaining about warping because he couldn't upgrade his car. It was flawed, but could be damn fun at a time when that type of fun was rare. Same goes for Dungeon Explorer, except game is more widely regarded as a fantastic game anyway. Was more in depth than Gauntlet.

The opinion that they should take the secondary market into account when selecting the games is really strange. The entire point of a system such as this to have the most iconic games on them so why would they include rare and obscure games that most people have never played?

Fantasy Zone was the bomb on Sega Master System, yo.

Not translating the PC Engine titles was such a stupid move. That wouldve made it a must buy.

Ive always wanted to get a TurboGrafx but i've never even seen one in person in my life. This is the most plausable way I see for me getting Rondo of Blood and Splatterhouse so just for that this thing would be totally worth it for me.

China warrior, R-type, Dungeon Explorer, and Bomberman are definitely big nostalgia games for most original turbografx owners. You can skip the cutscenes in Castlevania rondo blood after you make one game save. You can fix the steering controls in Motoroader by getting a B style Handle in the upgrades menu. It is ashame no Legendary Axe games got on here.

Hmm. The R-Type on this system was pure joy. Ninja Spirits is an underrated gem. But yes, the exclusion of Legendary Axe is a head scratcher. If one can find the translated texts for the japanese games, then this is a must buy

It's weird, I've bought most of the official 'Classic' line of consoles, and while I liked the TG-16, it wasn't my favorite. And yet...I'm looking forward to this one, most of all. Likely because I haven't had the opportunity to explore a lot of these games fully. The NES Classic and SNES Classic felt like a reunion tour where I'd heard most of the hits. I will be very happy to finally get my hands on this.

For me the biggest let down is not having Bloody Wolf. I played the shiiiiiiiiiii out of that. It's outstanding. Oh and crater maze was also tons of fun.

I still remember back in 1992, a bunch of TurboGrafx-16 systems were popping at garage sales for $10 to $20. I regret not buying one back then.

I've been commenting about Magical Chase on all of the TurboGrafx-16 mini reviews. I am honestly shocked that they didn't get it on the console. That would've been the perfect killer app. Either the person in charge had no idea what they were doing, or they couldn't get the rights to it. I presume Square Enix has the rights after buying Quest back in the day.

When I was a kid, a friend of mine had the portable TG that took the same games as the big system. A quarter century later and we never saw that again.

Wait, the TG16 Mini is out? I thought it got delayed. Anyway, this seems like a good system. Some of the game choices are strange, but still seems like a good value.

Wished they would've add a translated version of Snatcher.

Konami bought out Hudson Soft around a decade ago who were in partnership with NEC who made the PC Engine. It's why there are so many Hudson Soft games on the console.

I'm an NES player and I've played Atari as well but I've never known anyone around where I live who owned the TurboGrafx-16 so this will be life-changing for me as it lets me try a nostalgic part of retro-gaming that I never could and probably never would have been able to play. I was sad when I knew I could never play it but with this mini-console...wow, I feel like parts of my retro gaming life will finally be filled in. This may not be the case for everyone or many other but for me, this is life-changing. I just hope that I'll be able to get it. I can't wait to try it out.

I'd love a new model tv made for retro gaming, CRT, but as light and thin as possible, and mini consoles with those analog connections, although I guess maybe it's still not the same, if it's not the old console itself, but than still, I'd want a new retro TV thing in any case

Neutopia, Cadash, Splatterhouse, Rondo of Blood, Ys, Ninja Spirit, Military Madness, Ghouls & Ghosts, Ninja Gaiden, Bomberman 94 are ALL great non shooters on this mini system. Still lacks Legendary Axe 1 and 2

WHHAAAT??!! How could u diss Dungeon Explorer??? Best music, great graphics for the time, fun story, diff cool characters, level codes to continue your game. It was great & I doubt either of you ever really played it.

The fact that the entire collection of games in the package is rated "M?" WHAT???

You can tell that neither of these guys were familiar with the TG-16 library back in its heyday, which Ryan admits to in his case. If they had been, there's no way they'd have been questioning the existence of Bomberman, Dungeon Explorer, or Neutopia on this system.

"Beyond the shooters, this has a lot of games I'd rather play somewhere else." Well, sure. That's a pretty good summary statement of what the PC-Engine/Turbografx was for most people back in the day.

Both Spriggan games are on it. Legendary Axe, Keith Courage, Bonk 3 and Bloody Wolf should absolutely be on the mini

As much as I want one since I never had a TG-16 growing up, at $100, they could have thrown in a power adapter. Come on, Konami.

Review aside, I respect the effort in having a wide-shot with a real video call while Mike records his side with a real camera and then green-screening out the iPad for the close-up to cut in the clean feed and still synching it to the wide. Nice.

A lot of people dislike any video with Ryan. I like Ryan's comments he sounds excited about every topic he talks about. He's not the best orator but he sounds like that friend you had who was really into games and it perfectly fits the vibe of this series.

I'm glad they included Dungeon Explorer. I remember having a lot of fun with it and its sequel on a friend's TG-16. It and Military Madness are my two favorite games included in the mini. I've always preferred RPGs, strategy, and Action RPGs to most shooters.

I had a friend who had a Turbo CD back in the 90's, I still kick myself for not trying to get it off him. Having played Neutopia and Dungeon explorer , it was a little hard to listen to them shit on them, especially since I really think that they were both really good games. Neutopia was a good parallel to Zelda, but had more story(Beyond what's in the manual) and Dungeon explorer was interesting because there was more characters than Gauntlet ever had and again, more story. I am a little disappointed that it doesn't have Legendary axe, I've seen more than a couple channels list Legendary axe among the creme of the crop, for the HU card games. The game JJ and Jeff is a bit of an odd one, it's based off of some Japanese TV show(I think) so a lot of the game is going to fall flat for non-Japanese players.

Ryan looks quite a bit more healthy than he did before. Are you working out? Anyway, good for you man! Keep healthy anyway now, in these weird times. I like the honest review too. I agree on most titles that maybe shouldn't be on there too.

Konami bought Hudson Soft which was the designer of the PCE/TG16. NEC was just in charge of manufacturing and marketing.

PC-Engine has the best home version of R-Type.....no question it should be on there!

They didn't even include Keith courage. That game was bundled with the system originally. Not including Keith courage would be the same as not including Mario on the nes mini. Also, they didn't include dead moon which is my favorite shmup ever. I think I'll pass on this one.

So it took some searching, but I think it has an ARM Cortex-A7 CPU (the same which is used in the Raspberry Pi 2), for those who were wondering.

Let’s be honest, this is a pretty piss poor moaning over nothing review. Anyone on the fence about buying one, don’t listen to this tosh, get one and you will not be disappointed. I have most of the mini consoles and this is my second fav, after the Snes one, and that only has about 22 games on it.

Strange review for retro gaming console. they reviewed it as if it is a new console that is supposed to compete with other consoles. It ONLY exists for retro and nostalgia reasons and has a limited audience. No one is buying a TurboGrafix 16 Mini instead of an Xbox Series X. Edit: What I'm really referencing starts at 18:30. Is he basically saying a 33 year old game console with 30 year old games isn't a game changer and only appeals to retro gamers? And that makes it a failure some how? I do completely agree and am very disappointed that this is unfortunately not a Turbografx/PCEngine "greatest hits" because the game selection is terrible based on what games were actually released on the console.

No Devil's Crush? No sale. That one and Blazing Lasers were my top two games from even back when I had an actual TG16.

I preordered a long time ago and still waiting to find out when it will be released since COVID-19. I wasn’t lucky enough to own or know someone who owned one. I am excited.

Disregard any purist speech made by game Divas on youtube. Out here in the real world, the TG16 Mini is one of the best minis hands down. Very well made and a great experience overall. That being said, I eagerly hope that it gets hacked so I can remove the shitty games and add the games of my choice.

Genpei Tōma Den/The Genji and the Heike Clans is really famous so it's understandable why it'll be on the mini. Same with Fantasy Zone, I own the second installment. You can even look up an Opa Opa cosplay on google

I had this console and man the memories...I remember it was very expensive and it took my parents, grandparents and my uncle to get this for Christmas..so it will be nice to get myself one for this Christmas. Amazon has it post for a December 2020 release.
