Academically, UT is actually better (on the Academic Ranking of World Universities UT is 40 in the world and Rice is 70, and on the US News Global Universities rankings UT is 36 in the world and Rice is 107)
Jesus Jesus reputation is arbitrary and only really matters to tiger parents that want to brag to their friends about their kid. unless someone wants to be a big shot investment banker on wall street or a politician, the reputation of the college you go to doesn’t matter. the graduate themselves and their knowledge and ability is what matters above all else. the most companies will ever do is look at the academic rankings of colleges in the subjects involved in the job they’re seeking to fill. public vs private can be an issue for the individual looking for the most smooth college experience, but the academic rankings are important for getting an idea of how much resources the college puts towards specific subject areas and roughly how successful their faculty is in researching and teaching that field
I had low sat score and decent gpa and just got accepted because they saw my potential I’m so happy but I’m looking into everything I have to into this school!! Thanks for this vid
Joana B man i had a low score hahaha don’t stress man my score was -1100 won’t say cus not proud of it could have done better , but definitely prove to them your exceptional
I have a newsflash for all of you. Going to the University of Texas is not an assurance that you will be successful , far from it. UT teaches you how to work and you have to continue that level of commitment and dedication after graduation too. Things don't just happen for you because you went to the University of Texas. For example, if you leave Texas after graduation and move to the northeastern United States, graduating from the University of Texas is not that impressive to people in that part of the country.
I'm praying I get in. I just applied early action for UT and a lot of other Texas schools. Just got accepted into Baylor! But I'm praying I get into UT because right now it's my top choice in Texas (I live in Houston).

I'm a college senior planning on going to UT for my masters Fall 2021. When I was researching the school, I began to question, "Is this school going to give me anxiety?" Your video is the perfect answer to that. I'm going to try to get through it though.

Riverside went up almost 300$ on an average one bedroom in the past 5-7 years. Also, what others don't realize is that Austin was rated the number one segregated city in America a couple years back. I feel that racism as a whole is much lower in Austin as the rest of Texas, but the isolationist ways of the different "cultures" in the city tend to cultivate many misconceptions from all parties. Aside from that, just getting in UT is a hassle if you are a transfer, internal and especially external, if you don't have some special situation that sets you apart from the rest. They swat down 4.0 science/engineering/business applicants like mosquitos as of recent. Good luck to everyone who applies. The city itself still has much more to offer than most.
Thank you thank you thank you! I feel like you are the most real person on here talking about UT. I just got my acceptance letter, and I’m heading there! I appreciate you sharing this information.
As a recent College Grad from UT's McCombs School of Business, its definitely worth going to. It's ton of fun. I love the diversity of people, and it lives up to it's name, that's for sure.
@@jonathans8892 Congratulations! That in itself is a HUGE achievement. Not many people are able to get accepted into McCombs. The very name of the business school will give you priority when you apply for jobs after college. I will tell you right now, it will be no cake walk. You will have to grind your butt off, but you will come out of it a changed person with a completely different perspective of the world. My biggest advise is 1. Take advantage of office hours. DO NOT be afraid to ask questions about topics you're unfamiliar with. They are always willing to help. 2. Network as much as you can as early as you can. Go to career fairs, introduce yourself to different companies starting as a freshman. It will open up doors for internships opportunities and full time roles after college. 3. Find a balance. It is so easy to get caught up in the college if wanting to party, go to 6th street, join Greek life ect, but NEVER forget why you're there, and that is to get a great education, get a degree, and find a great job after college. Nothing wrong building making friends and memories, but find that balance. Don't use all your time partying or all of it stuck in your books studying. I hope this helps.
As a Conservative who is considering UT, I kinda see your point regarding how stressful things are, although stress is caused by different things. It seems like a serious of unfortunate dominos fell and what occurred was the far left says one thing, and the conservatives end up reacting a bit much as a response to the far left, then innocent students get even more stressed. It does suck, hopefully politics on both sides dial down on campuses because it’s unhealthy. Otherwise, thank you for giving me a general idea of Austin, TX. I am Asian so I guess it might be a slight change from the NorthEast where I currently am situated in.
Hi! I know I am a little late but I hope you still see this comment. I am really sorry that you had a shitty experience with the radical rightists. I appreciate your open-mindedness in your regards to your comment of “I’m not saying it is a bad thing to be conservative.” I just wanted to remind you that what you saw at UT is NOT real conservatism. If you were discriminated based on your race, that is coming from people who claim to be conservative, but they are really not. Conservatism is truly based on virtue and morality. Regardless of right or left, it all comes to be just being a mench. I hope your bad experience does not lead you to a bad viewing of conservatives. As one myself, I wish you the best in your endeavors!
I attend UTRGV and let me tell you if you are a student with disablities they make graduation seem impossible. I only been a student for 3 years now and I just entered my sophmore year. Each step I take towards my program in education feels like I am being knocked 10 steps back because they pull out suprise after suprise. Just now I found out I need to retake my TSI Math and Writing because I haven't meet a qualification for my program. When I started school here they just told me to take remedial math and college algebra and I would be TSI cleared as for my TSI writing they told me I was exempt due to my SAT writing score. This is irksome because I thought it was their job to help me progress through my degree and graduate but nope !
I’m between UT and TXST. I’m worried about huge classes and debt. I cannot understand how ppl in the comments will take out loans when UT is 40k like it’s nothing
Lots of racism at ut when I studied film (rtf) there. There were so many epic battles and wars with the young republicans. Once, a fellow student political activist vomited up his texas independence cake at the young republican rally because of their racist "hunt a mexican" game and created a storm from that act. Too little diversity, and a hateful campus vibe somewhat akin to the hate at virginia tech & columbine seethes through the beautiful ut campus and this definitely creates mental health issues for the hyper sensitive types. That's why Ricky Williams and others felt horrible while there. In fact I remember I saw Ricky Williams once before my class started, he must have noticed that I was something other than white (I'm Chicano), and he smiled as if recognizing both our struggles. If you're going to ut, be ready to either stand your ground in racist settings with racist students, teacher aides, and even professors, or just do what you have to-to maintain your sanity. Peace!
The USA is a historically white country. It was over 90% until the 1960s.. What does "too little diversity" even mean? How about accepting and judging people based off of their character, rather than skin color. Your way of thinking is the exact opposite of what MLK preached.
@Patty hates her life lol i’d like to live in a country that has no minorities at all. All of the best countries on earth are virtually 100% white. Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Switzerland, etc. Diversity is absolutely not a strength or beneficial in any way. It just causes tensions and problems.
polifatts I was mad reading this at first, but yeah, please move. We don’t need you here :) You can’t make an argument about “accepting and judging people based off their character” then immediately refute your claim by making an audacious statement. Also, you really need to do research. There are more native minorities in those countries than you think. I know from experience. Nice to know who the ignorant racist is. You’re the typical stereotype.
@@BringBackCyParkVendingMachines There are literally no native minorities in the countries I mentioned. Europe was 100% white up until the past century when mass immigration started. I am not racist at all. Just a realist. I see the racial tension and hatred happening in "melting pot" countries like America. Who wants that? I believe every race should have their own homeland to carry out the destiny that is most ideal for them. Africa for Africans, Europe for Europeans, Asia for Asians.. On a global scale, whites are the minorities. They make up only about 10% of the world population. Why is it only white countries that are forced to have "diversity?" There is a clear agenda going on.
Yoo thanks for this video! I got my acceptance letter, but I’m deciding to go to UNT instead. I needed to hear this because I’ve noticed a lot of my own mental health is effected by my grades; and I’m not trying to put myself through such stress over not only academics, but finances! Appreciate the video 😊
Gisel Lora That’s great! Only reason I decided UNT rather than UT was because UNT has a more lenient grading system. If you were to get a 90% in a class, UT wouldn’t consider it a 4.0, but rather like a 3.67.. UNT considers that to be a 4.0. 🤷🏾♂️ plus, it’s closer to home for me and I HATE driving. 💀
you’re the big sister i never had! i’m the first born in my family so i don’t want to put a bad impression on my little brother. most of my relatives that have attended UT have told me that they were treated differently because we are hispanic. i don’t know if that’s true or not, but i really want to make friends.

Did you get into it? I am interested since I am also trying to transfer to UT with computer science degree. If you did, is there any other things you do?
What about Hispanics? I’m going to UT next semester and I’m really scared it will be like high school with overly basic/clicky people. Also, I have no friends at UT so it’s really stressing me out :(
MEN Kae you’ll be fine!! Just find your group of people. A lot of Hispanic and black people hang out at UT. It’s just about finding people you really mesh with, that may not even necessarily be within your race!
I toured the school in November and the homelessness situation was very very obvious. As someone from the DC area, it doesn’t necessarily scare me, but thank you for notifying me about the attacks. I never knew that.
I'm currently a junior wanting to go to UT in the fall of 2020 but I'm unsure/nervous of my chances of getting in. I REALLY wanna go to UT so bad! I want to major in accounting but I heard how hard it is to get accepted to McCombs. I currently am ranked 32/147 and have a 3.6 gpa. Do you think I have a chance of getting into the business school and/or getting into UT itself?
Congratulations on your admission to campus. The journey may be hectic, especially when you cannot meet deadlines on our assignments or you are stuck. The great news is that you have me here. I do not assist in academic cheating, but I provide insights into your assignments. I write essays that give you a guideline on how to write your final essay. Contact me if you are in need of such services - especially international students who struggle with language.
I'm a high school senior and going to UT is more than a dream of mine. I'm really trying to spice up my application so, that it will catch their eye. Are there any suggestions you could give me? Or anything that worked for you?
Honestly I would just be 100% authentic. Being a POC and just having great grades and being involved in leadership roles are also helpful ! GPA matters more than anything though.
My son was accepted to both Mays and McCombs. We thought that he would obviously choose McCombs due to its higher ranking and the relative greater diversity at UT as he is a black. To our surprise however he’s really enjoyed his visits to A&M, including the sense of community they promote as Aggies. He’s likely still gonna end up at McCombs due to the ranking of that program, but we were surprised that he’d find a greater comfort level, at least initially, at a Uber-conservative school like A&M.
I loved watching this because I've felt so many of these emotions before. It's interesting that you made a lot of points that I felt the same way about. It's so easy to feel like an outcast at UT because it's HUGE! Seriously, whenever I walk past classes that I don't normally go to I'm always astounded by how giant the campus is. I also have a hard time meeting new people because I feel like it's just so hard to know who wants to strike up a conversation with you or not. UT Austin even feels so different than the rest of downtown which I always find fascinating
"UT isn't as liberal as it appears" That's a REALLY interesting perspective she has there, don't ya think? Really made me look at things in a... different way.
TYSM for this. Im going to be a sophomore in college next year, and I am considering transferring bc my current school is just too small. This video has helped a lot!!

Oh wow. Im Asian. In the middle of choosing university for my masters(SCM) I’m looking for schools in Texas because my sister lives there (in Houston). Heard that MS SCM at UTD is top 5 in the US. I’ll apply as an international student. Been working in export/import related job. And still saving up maybe for a few years. My question is “is SCM really good there” “Do people discriminate asians?” “How’s cost of living/month?”
There's a lot of Asians in UTD, especially Indians. I don't think there's discrimination in that school. I don't know about UT Austin or schools in Houston.
Though I’m not fully asian (half black/half asian) coming from familial experiences, in Houston, Asians aren’t really discriminated against. There’s a HUGE Asian population in the Houston area, and their surrounding cities or towns. Though I’m not entirely sure about Austin. The majority of Austin is white, and I heard some lack of diversity, but not actual discrimination

Hey! I’m looking into UT for a political science major. This video was definitely an eye opener. I’ve lived in Texas for most of my life, I moved to the west coast about 3 years ago and I had totally forgotten how conservative the state of Texas is and I get pretty triggered by it so that’s a factor I’ll be keeping in mind. Also, any guidance on the best areas to rent an apartment in in the city of Austin? Thank ya!
Paola Vlsqz yes it’s something to definitely think about! Cali is very liberal compared to even Austin lol. You will definitely meet some trump supporters here. And yes! Check out my video guide on where to live on my channel😊
I lived in Austin twice, leaving it for good after graduating in 1986. It was or rather felt more conservative back then. I only went back sporadically since leaving and last went there more than a year ago and could not wait to get the hell out of the city. There was not a patch of green anywhere. It was a concrete jungle. I wasn’t even there 24 hours, but saw that Austin had become ridiculously liberal. And it’s new recently amped up homeless population will remind anyone of any major city in California.
i'm a high school senior and I really want to get into UT for fall 2022, i have a good gpa of 3.94 and class rank 1 but i am still scared of not getting in because I've seen some people with good stats and still getting rejected... also the major i want is engineering and i guess it's competitive... and I'm also worried about tuition and boarding, omg I'm so stressed 😭😭 I'm not a U.S. citizen so i can't apply for FAFSA..
I assure you that students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) can confidently hold their own when placed in the same room as students from other highly ranked universities; look at what they produce. Moreover, a thorough investigation into the reasons behind the lack of ranking for HBCUs and the money owed to them over time would be beneficial, as it would highlight the political oppression they have faced.
I’m from the uk and I’m 16, I have hopes of going to university at UT. But I don’t really know a lot on the acceptance of international students. Any help would be appreciated loads
UT is not the number one school in Texas by a long shot. It's ranked 49th best national university in the latest study by US News and World Report. The most highly rated national university in Texas is Rice, which came in at 16th best.
i'm an international student. and thinking about applying for UT. well there's pretty much everything in the internet but i hope i could ask someone who experienced studying there first hand some specific answers.
Texas Ex speaking here, there are lots of groups that do things that trigger you. I went to school in the 1990's and things then made me uncomfortable. Adapt and overcome.
I want to get my BSN. Would this be a good school to go to? And could It be possible to go to community college first and then transfer to UT to I guess save money by doing my basics there?
I found out i got capped last night. I want to go into biochemistry and the cap program automatically accepts cap students into the liberal arts school and im terrified that i wont get into the college of natural sciences

Don't know if you're still open to answering questions, but I have quite a few. Tbh I never expected to get accepted into ut but I did, for chemical engineering, my major of choice. However, I've been mentally preparing myself all this time to go to A&M, (because I didn't expect to get accepted) and all of a sudden I'm unsure about where to go to college with this sudden acceptance. I know more people at A&M, have more friends there, and I know very little people at UT. So I'm very torn. Should I take a risk and go into a completely new environment (because engineering there is prestigious ) or should I fall back on comfort and do engineering at A&M? I'm just really scared if I'll make a dumb decision because I chased after the academics. If you have any advice that'd mean the world to me, I'm so stress right now because I don't know what to do
Depends on your major.. package.. and what city you prefer... no matter what you choose, they are both best flagship in Texas and in the country. Enjoy it ahahah
Both are great. If you like a more close knit community with a huge alumni presence then A&M is for you. If you want more prestige and academic rigor go to UT. Good luck, I was Capped and still working my ass off just to get accepted😢✌🏾
Hey Lynette 😄 great video! I saw in a different video of yours that you were going to pick between UT and Baylor. I just got accepted to Baylor and wanted to know what drew you into attending? What makes me a little on edge about Baylor was the amount of diversity that school attains. But overall I love it!
Baylor has a good business program and had offered me a scholarship! Once I went to go visit it I wasn’t feeling it though. Waco was too small for me:(
UT wasn't the right school for me because while i got accepted, i didn't have $20,000+ a year in tuition...the $20,000 scholarship i got only covered about $4,000 a year but oh well
Hi Lynette! I'm currently looking into masters programs for music performance. Do you find that the overall culture/politics in the music school at UT varies from the rest of the school, or is it similar across the board?
Hi! I am from Europe and I am considering going to the UT as an exchange student. I would take business classes, is it really that hard passing? Thank you.
The fact that you guys say it's becoming more conservative is a good thing. That's means the diversity is increasing. It means even though UT is widely known to lean towards the liberal side even people with conservative ideals are looking past it.
i think if i lived in austin and was tryna go to school at UT i would be tempted to party everyday..much like going to the U in miami or ucla in cali., probably would need to go somewhere not as distracting.
This was so weird for me because not being from Texas I kept thinking UT means University of Texas and there are several UT schools, which one is she talking about. I only got that she meant University of Texas - Austin several minutes into the video. For me it would be like saying CalState or UC without saying which one. But again, I'm not from Texas. I would have said UT Austin and I'm guessing so would other people not from Texas.
if my sat score is an 1190 (1220 superscore) and my gpa is a 3.65 and I've done many extracurriculars and volunteering do I have a chance of getting in? the problem is as a senior right now my rank is 217/620 :/
Jeez the way you talk about the stress n mental health, you got me kinda nervous about applying n i was in a combat unit for 3 yrs😅 I did get a racist vibe when talking to admissions tho, but I've lived in MO (skin-heads) n GA (kkk) so I'll still apply for the quality of courses. Does anyone know if Univ. of Houston, El Paso, or Dallas are good schools?
Benjamin Solomon it’s really not THAT bad, but for someone who is black I definitely notice it. I’m from San Antonio and have some friends at UTSA. They love it!
Im a black high school student from Georgia looking for a big school with diverse ways of thinking since Georgia is very conservative. I have a 4.16 GPA and ok SAT scores. I’m senior class pres and am involved in a lot of clubs and mentorships. How are my chances of getting in?
I am a high school senior right now but I’m honestly in a state where Im super lost and don’t know what to do. I’m trying to pursue two majors (General Psychology and Drama/Theatre) which I don’t even know if that’s the right choice. I’d like to go to KD Conservatory in Dallas for an acting program and a Tarrant County College to have an associates degree that could help me get a higher paying job to at least try to afford UT Austin after my two years. I’m not sure if I’m even making the right decision on doing that- transferring from a community and acting college to UT Austin. My rank in high school from my 1st semester as a junior was top 4-5% (didn’t change in the second semester due to COVID) so for now I could get an automatic acceptance to UT but could my rank change by the end of my Senior year??? Because if that’s the case I’m 100% sure that I’ll be knocked out of that top 5% so quickly and easily even when I hear that it’s harder to change your gpa as a senior and I haven’t even taken my SAT yet and I know I’m going to do really bad at it because when it comes to the SAT I’m suddenly the worst test taker and the practice tests would have low scores so I’m freaking out. Oh wow my grammar is really bad... But listening to you about being honest about the costs, lack of diversity, and safety is actually kinda comforting to hear before witnessing it myself (If I do get accepted) and I’ve been binge watching some of your UT videos and I’m really grateful for them! I’ll keep watching more to help me out bc as a senior I’m SUPER behind...
I say don't stress yourself out and slow down a bit! Start with community college so you can ease up the pressure and have more time to decide what you want to do. I know it feels like you have to have everything figured out right now, but you don't!

Hey, thanks for the upload. I just finished about a year ago, and I can confirm the points you made in the video are accurate. It's a gigantic school (40k+ undergrads), so everyone's experience is going to be a little different. I studied engineering, and the classes were relatively diverse compared to the impression I got from the business school. It's interesting how a gigantic community can create hundreds of smaller microcultures. As for the racist bakesale... I know the guy who livestreamed himself debating with about 50 other people very well. Dewayne is actually a very nice person who would not hurt a fly. He's a deep thinker who prefers to question and challenge the status quo on affirmative action. I don't think he intended to trigger or hurt anyone's mental health. Good luck with the rest of your classes.
: Divergent : I’m planning on become a biology major and from what I hear, it’s one of the best in Texas (next to Rice and such of course). But I’m not sure
I loved UT from theur academics and so on I researched. But now learning what you said, it is probably best I don't apply. I didn't really think I had a chance anyway. While I believe my class rank is high and I have a gpa 3.7, my ACT is a 21. And when I took it my second time it went down. My ACT does make me feel very rocky about higher top schools. And also I only started going to a club junior year because I didn't have a lot of free time where I was able to stay aftee beforehand.
Cupid Star Apply anyway!! My ACT score was lower than yours and my gpa was a 3.7 too, don’t let that stop you! If your essays are incredibly good, you definitely have a chance.
its not that Austin is very white, its just very segregated. basically east of i-35 and parts of north central austin (and other areas i cant remember) are where most of the minorities live
They have an ib program at my high school, which I was in for 2 yrs than finally said GOODBYE my senior year (greatest decision hah) but I know a lot of the seniors in ib at my school got capped. UT will automatically accept you if you're in the top 6% of your class and if you're not the chances of getting in are slimmer but still possible. So even though ib is a rigorous program, they're not gonna look at your application and see ib and say "you're in!"
