They kept Shane alive a LOT longer than he lived in the comics, and I liked him as a character. They killed Otis right away, while he lived for quite a while in the comics (and I did NOT like his character)... they killed off Sophia, who's supposed to be, in he comic book, one of the 4 original Atlanta survivors that is still alive, and Carol commited suicide by zombie in the comics before Lori even died, while in the TV show she's one of the most badass survivors that is still alive lonnnnnnnnnnnnnnng past when she would have normally died. It's anyone's guess now about Glenn! Maybe he'll kill Negan eventually after Negan kills Gabriel or something. Oh god I hope that would be what happens...

It's not a spoiler to say that Otis died in 2 episodes while Shane survived for episodes and episodes past where he did in the comics. That's... just knowing the source material, which I've already said is NOT a good predictor of how the TV show will turn out since they keep changing things from the comics, and have already outright stated that Glenn won't get Lucille smashing his head in from Word of God.
