Is the weather SAFE to take my boat out? How to know?!
Understanding the weather is SO important for boaters and fishermen looking to have a fun day on the water! Unfortunately, it's not as simple as checking the local weather app and making a decision. Aside from if it's going to be sunny there are factors to consider like wind, current, waves, ocean swells and so much more but don't worry because we are here to help!

Nice video the only thing you may want to add is the current. If it is going with the waves are against the waves especially around the inlets
@michiganengineer8621

As expected, another very useful lesson that is well presented. If anyone watches the channels dedicated to Haulover or other inlets you can DEFINITELY see the effect the wind can have on the seas going through a narrow channel

A good wag for me is too think hard about going offshore when waves are greater than 10% of your boat length. IE, 30 ft center console, seas greater than 3ft with short duration might get pretty snotty. Great video, you two are doing an excellent job educating those of us that aren’t charter captains.

I think you should have gone more into wave period it is very important too. I have a 25 foot cc if it was 3-4 ft at 6 seconds, I would not go out, waves are too tight. If it was 3-4 ft at 10 seconds, I would go out because they are spread apart. And could be only blowing 5-10 kts, but you might have a 5 foot swell at 6 seconds because there might be a storm way offshore

Another good vid, especially addressing the variables which effect actual sea conditions. One thing I might add is when using marine weather apps it's a good idea to set the location for where you will be boating. Most apps will default to your current location. For example, I live on the Northshore of Long Island (Long Island Sound) but my boat is kept on the South Shore and I fish the Atlantic. The conditions vary significantly between where I live and where I actually boat.

Honestly this was extremely helpful for me. Just got a Tahoe T16 boat last year. Very beginner boater. I live in Norfolk, VA so there are lots of places to go. I really didn’t understand why some days where do choppy and some days where smooth as glass. There is so much that goes into boating it kinda crazy. But once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty awesome. The wind and current conditions was like a duh moment for me. I was like oh……. That’s why it gets so choppy lol. Great job ladies

Love you guys. Wish I had this info when I had my boat. The only thing I went by was the condition it was when walked out my door. Most of that time was the early morning calm. I would usually go out early with the plan to return early afternoon because there was always an afternoon breeze. I live in Torrance CA just south of Los Angeles and fished the Catalina channel. 8 miles out of angels gate was my limit and there were sometimes it was a rough ride back in. Always fun though !

I'm in AZ, they pulled another body out of Lake Havasu yesterday. A young girl was trapped under a pontoon last month (capsized), the Monsoon is no joke, storms pop up over the mountains faster than most can react and get off the water. Our sports repoter now retired was the Father of Marquis Cooper, Raiders Linebacker. They went out fishing off the coat in Florida n a 21' single engine boat. They had motor problems acording the the only survivor of the group of 3. NEVER would I rely on one motor, nt even in the South West, and the ocean, forget it.

Great video as always ladies. Wish we could go out with you when we are out in Florida next month, but we will be int he Tampa area and that is a bit north of where you are. I use Android, not iPhone/iPad, so only some of those apps are available for Android. Here on Lake Mead we can get wind-whipped waves as big as you get on the ocean sometimes, but it can surprise you if you were in a sheltered arm and then come out to the main lake area. Might I suggest a video on how to handle a boat in large waves for such situations that you can't avoid?

I have been boating since 1980 serving for 4 then owning one boat or another since then for pleasure. You are right about egos. Experienced boaters are just that, partly because they have learned about the waves that go OUCH among other things. Like what their own particular (to their vessel and geographic location) no go day parameters are. Or, as I like to explain it to my eager friends, OHN days. "Oh, Hell No" days. In my area (MA) 9 out of 10 times the wind will pick up in the afternoon. Based on direction and speed in the morning you can plan the distance and direction you will fish in to mitigate that effect. Or take a chance on a totally unnecessary afternoon beat down. As operator/owners of a boat the safety and wellbeing of your guest should be your first consideration. Well done ladies.

If it's too windy then you fish that are coaster waterway or you fish a bay or somewhere it gives you shelter but you'll still get fish especially on the intercoaster waterway if it's tears you go back in a small Bay or cove and fish the coat for the day or do inshore fishing on a doctor a shoreline but make sure you fish a cove or fish a bay or deer Island there's a bay nearby fish it with his too windy you'll get more fish if you stay in shore

I would love to see this episode on noob-captain-Scott who has recently moved to the Texas coast and in the market for a fishing jet ski. He would like to fish the rig 8-10 miles offshore for Red Snapper and thinks that he can manage medium rough seas on a jet ski. Plus captain-Scott has never been on the water and is watching your videos learning all the ins-outs of navigation. Is captain-Scott going to have a short life?

@jlout5492

Man I work at a boat dealership and honestly nowadays anything in the 30-40 price range (brand new) isn't worth the hassle for the consumer to purchase as a long term investment or the manufacture to sell for a profit which is why there are so very few manufactures available in that price range. Prices have sky rocketed over the past 2 years, boats alone are up 15-20% a $60k boat in 2019 is $80k in 2022. Used boat market is just as bad We sold 3 used boats this past week alone a 2017, 2018 and a 2020 all sold for at least what it was bought for brand new the 2020 sold for more than its original purchase price. My Honest opinion do yourself a favor and buy a kayak or make some friends at the boat ramp. At least until the spiraling out of control inflation were experiencing has settled.

You want to fish into the wind because he fish into the wind the fish are going to come closer to the shoreline if you fish the opposite of the wind it won't do you any good anyway fish into the wind the windier it is the better it is fish close to the shoreline and keep it tight as possible you lie or keep it low your rod and keep your line tight that means you'll still get a fish but you're fishing into the wind the fish comes closer to get to his bait like a rock or a pilot blocks the wind but you still get your fish
