Wrexham is a story that I have been following closely since Rob and Ryan took over. It’s been three years. They’ve secured two promotions and multiple Emmy awards! Time to dive into their business performance so far.

Good content. One mistake, however - If memory serves, Tozer was signed in the 2021(edit) pre-season, along with Jones and Mullin. You had him joining in the winter transfer window, with Palmer.

One key thing is that not only would Wrexham be worth hundreds of millions if they were to make it to the Premier League ... they were bought for a 2 million investment and would TODAY be worth 10 million or more if sold, so the capital gains of the club are keeping pace with the amount "owed" to the co-owners. While they are going to make a push for the playoff spots at the very least, so spending on players will rise again, I expect the 5 million pound loss is going to go down -- not just from the growth in sponsorship income, but also from a move of their kit to a first tier sports merchandiser. For the last two seasons, Wrexham shirts were constantly sold out.
@TheLongPlayUK
@TheLongPlayUK 24 дня назад
I recorded this before the announcement of the investment in Homage. Another shrewd move which will allow them as you say, to benefit even more from their massive retail presence. Theyve also announced another US Pre-season tour where they'll face Chelsea again and likely Necaxa too. The kit manufacturer deal is a sound one.

You briefly mentioned the revenue that is generated by the Welcome to Wrexham series. But of course as that is a privately held company in the United States, no one really knows how much profit it generated there. I would suspect when that revenue is added in, Rob and Ryan are still making more money than they are spending. This more than just an expensive hobby for them, both are smart businessmen and have found a way to balance costs vs overall revenue.

Just found your channel. Well done video and a needed deep dive into the business side for us fans. As a lifelong San Francisco 49ers fan and a casual soccer fan most of my life (starting with George Best and the San Jose Earthquakes), the 49ers' investment in Leeds United has resulted in growing popularity for Leeds due to the 49ers large fanbase, albeit not quite the rocket ride that Wrexham has experienced. Best of luck to a talented host as your channel will surely grow quickly as well.

I hope so I appreciate the kind words. I’ve touched on the US ownership in the Premier League before (one of my earlier videos) but I soon want to do a specific deep-dive into the owners who own both an NFL team AND a Premier League team and see who’s doing the “best”. Glazers vs Kroenke vs Boehly vs 49ers vs FSG if you will. One day perhaps 😅

Just stumbled across this video and channel - top work! As for Wrexham, it all looks sunny doesn't it - they'll need to keep pumping money in for little/no return if they want to achieve their goals. The training ground and academy aren't mentioned though. One is a must, the other potentially a vehicle to drive income through homegrown talent. The longer they leave these, the more it will cost them? Be interesting when they have to start spending their own cash for real.
@TheLongPlayUK

One of my previous videos is about Brentford and how NOT having an academy really served them well. Wrexham could reap a lot by following that model imo. Will be interesting to see what they do there
@DollyPocket

I think the reason they don’t care about the 9m is because on a personal basis they take chunks in credits from welcome to Wrexham before the tv show passes any money to Wrexham. My guess is that they have already recouped their up front funding. And who would deny them that.

Love how you put these videos together. As for Rob and Ryan. This is just the investment stage to get Wrexham where they want them. If the debts were just football related I would be worried as it wouldn’t be sustainable. They are however making money via other companies media and other brands they own etc. which are linked to the club. So long as the debt is covered by the clubs overall value they are fine. Club has to be worth £10-15 million today. They are, so far, excellent business people. Time will tell if football turns them into crazy business people, as it has in the past with many other owners. Keep up the great videos.

Appreciate the kind words. Revenues are healthy, they have multi-year commercial deals in place and they have ownership of the stadium back. I am not an analyst by any means but I think your valuation may be a little conservative! Lets see how the next few years pans out.
@WNN_PaddyPower
@WNN_PaddyPower 21 день назад
Good video …. Well produced but you kind of missed out on how well structured/financed the club is… it’s hard to see as the accounts are a year behind. The main issue driving debt to owners is promotion through the leagues. The first year that Wrexham remain in the same division then costs will normalise and allow the income growth to catch up.

Wrexham is worth about £12M - £15M of it was sold, so Rob & Ryan have actually made a £3M -£5M profit value wise, except they won't sell Club for a decade at least! If EVER!😮
@TheLongPlayUK
@TheLongPlayUK 17 дней назад
Profit is only profit once you sell. As of today they’ve made nothing! However I agree, I do not think there will be a sale any time soon. They seem far too invested in the journey
@alexanderrose1071

I don’t ever see them selling all of their shares. This team is a part of their lives now. Even if they do eventually sell shares, they will most likely retain some
@simonsez2891
@simonsez2891 20 дней назад
Of course its paying off, your not taking into consideration lots of other revenue like both Rob and Ryan have mentioned before when answering this question, the massive popularity of the documentary alone is bringing in millions and they are not paying any big celebrities to star in it. This will only draw more money and more big investors wanting to get involved in the future aswell
@TheLongPlayUK
@TheLongPlayUK 20 дней назад
You say "of course" but there are quite a few examples of football ownership not going so well in its initial stages! You mention some other revenue streams, can you share some
@simonsez2891
@simonsez2891 20 дней назад
@TheLongPlayUK Well it was Rob and Ryan that said many other revenue streams I don't profess to know them all but I don't doubt they exist, the many lucrative sponsorship deals far exceeding what other clubs around them or in championship will match due to their fame, merchandise sales alone will be a lot of $$$....They have and will continue to sell a hell of a lot of shirts. Absolutely there are examples of ownership not going well early but this isn't that.

What we're seeing with Wrexham just now is the middle of a very smart long-term investment. Both owners make enough money outside of football to not notice this £9 million loss and I'm sure it'll be made back by the next 3-4 seasons, depending how Wrexham are doing.

@Mljones6

Like the video overall, but it also frustrates me how this isn't an accurate portrayal. The image shows rob and Ryan with -£8.9m. From Rob and Ryan's perspective, the Wrexham project includes the football club, and the documentary. There's no way to know exactly how much the documentary makes - particularly in terms of profit, but various sources talk about c£400k revenue per episode. It's hard to know how that converts to profit... But considering the biggest cost to most shows is talent, which in this case is almost 0... I can't see a world where it doesn't generate millions. I think this would have just been a far more accurate assessment of you'd thought about the entire venture, which is, ultimately, way more relevant.
@kcandreclarke
@kcandreclarke 22 дня назад
I just watched this too. He clearly labelled the documentary as their most prized asset and clearly made it out that its the thing that is responsible for a healthy chunk of their fan engagement. He even said the revenue numbers sit outside of the accounts so its difficult to know how much they make from it, like you did. We definitely didn’t watch the same thing. I haven’t seen a breakdown of Wrexham as good as this. Did a fantastic job with this
@DavidAugustine-lc4cj

So Aston Villa was valued at £200M just two seasons ago! And Brentford think they are now worth £400M! Yeah right, lets see who actually buys them and for what! Theyll be in a relegation battle next season, and likely back in the Championship before long. Accountants will say anything to a club regarding TV value, as long as they are getting paid a chunk....to say nice things! 😂
@TheLongPlayUK
@TheLongPlayUK 17 дней назад
I am watching the Brentford story closely. They have been up for sale for many months but so far there has been nothing in the public domains that suggests they’ve had much interest. If they sell Toney and stay in the Premier League I’m sure they’ll have some suitors

I really love that Rob and Ryan bought Wrexham. However, it is pretty annoying them talking about how much money they are losing. Maybe its just for tv content, but obviously Wrexham will be an absolute cash cow down the road
@alexanderrose1071
@alexanderrose1071 13 дней назад
It is for TV content. Ryan specifically has helped grow several businesses (Aviation Gin/Mint Mobile) that ended up selling for many hundreds of millions of dollars. They see how much the club value has grown by, and that’s their marker for business success. Whatever money the team makes now, is put right back into the club. They’re losing plenty of personal money now, yes, but they’re well on their way to having a team valued for over 100 million pounds. Also, they’ll eventually take profits from the club, once they feel like they’ve properly built all the needed infrastructure.
@mikeh4818
@mikeh4818 13 дней назад
@@alexanderrose1071 yeah, I agree. I just wish they wouldn't do that. The average laymen doesn't understand the long term profitability Rob and Ryan stand to make. The documentary can come off across as a little self-rightous. I'm sure they both love the growth of the Wrexham community, but they stand to reap big rewards. The show at times paints them as non-profit organizers, doing it all out of the goodness of their heart. So much curating in all docuseries, it's not unique to just this show
