To make the most of the Gastown Car Free Pilot, this video highlights the best ways to get to Gastown by bike. It’s also intended to shed some light on the fact that most of the ways to get to Gastown aren’t fully protected, which is a major hurdle for a majority of potential cyclists.
Vision Zero Vancouver applauds the City of Vancouver for their Car Free Pilot of Gastown. Two notes: It needs to be permanent, not for two months. And you need to improve cycling access to the area if you want to encourage people to leave their cars at home.

Thanks for sharing Chris. Something extremely rare in Canada is the retractable bollard. They allow emergency/authorized vehicles but deny through traffic. Amazing tool.

I work in gastown and live up Cambie past City Hall. I honestly like taking heather down to 7th (no way I am biking on 6th before the bike lane). Then going to the seawall, but you could take the cambie bridge (I don't like the hill and the weird loop at the end). Going back home, honestly I like going over burrard bridge and over to cypress all the way up to 10th then cutting back across towards cambie.

Soft shoulders can be good they just need to be placed on the right streets with a lot of destinations so people cycling can easily cross the street. Also, better driving education is needed.
