Is There Any Hope For Squeaky Brakes? | Super73 Rotor Swap

used to work at a bike shop and one thing people would come in and be mad about was loud brakes. I have learned how to get them to not be so loud but when its time to upgrade thanks for the info

Since the bikes are so heavy, and the rotors are rather thin, they (pads and disc) can tend to glaze up and squeak. The rotors are from MTB/Road bike applications, which don't tend to be 80+ lb bikes. So those little rotors are having a lot asked of them on these bikes. That said... Dragging your brakes a lot can cause it. Lots of braking from high speed can sometimes cause it. And, dusty off road riding without any maintenance/cleaning can make it worse as well. You can pull your pads and clean them, or lightly sand them with fine fine grit paper to remove any glazing. And/or do the same to your discs (I've used synthetic sink scuff pads and some alcohol). Sometimes it's just a matter of using a different pad material. Aggressive metal based pads can squeak and squeal more just by their nature, but have more bite and stopping power. While Organic based pads might be a bit quieter, but be a little softer bite on the discs. Other times it can be the disc itself. Every disc will have a natural resonance, which will change depending on the material, thickness, cutouts, etc. If you've tried everything, swapping your disc can sometimes helps. And lastly, though this should have been first. Sometimes just re-centering your caliper on the disc helps align things better, and stop or minimize the squeeeeeeak. It gets out of alignment, doesn't squeeze the pads as square to the disc, and resonates/squeaks. I have the same probalem with my back rotor on my RX as well. I cleaned it and thought maybe it needed to be broken in or something but it still squeaks. Glad to know this worked.

This is a temporary fix. The stock brakes are undersized for that bike and even more so for the rider. He needs to upgrade to 203mm rotors with the appropriate conversion adapter for the calipers. Also those screws are called Torx head or Torx screws and require a proprietary bit or driver.

i used terpentine to clean the breaks, etc, just poured over it, let it sit & before riding again the next day wash again by pouring soapy water over the breaks

There's also a brake squeal stop stuff at the auto parts store... it goes on the backside of your brake pads... keeps them from vibrating and squeaking. Squeaky brakes is a problem razors have pretty shitty to see a premium brand ebike with the same problem.

I think this is the last step fir the wife’s S2 but I din’t like taking the rear wheel off. I have done, just don’t like it.

Did anyone try Copper grease between the break pad holders as the squeak is caused by friction between the mounts and the pads this is scientific but I discovered this in the 90a just sayin
