Side note about the symbolism of the big mosque : it was an idea choose just after the independance and kind of symbolising this promise they name the area Mohamadiya (in reference of the Ummah of the Prophet). Anyway why this specific area need a mosque and symbol ? Because it was use by the Christian french missionary as their headquarters (la maison des pères blancs) and the first discours they made was about the fact that in less than 100 years into the future they will erase all trace of Islam in Algeria and convert « back » the Algerian to Christianity (because french have back then a kind of complex that the church father from augustine to tertulian and cyprin and origine … most of them were from the land that was Algeria). Anyway so the local of the region were like « It can be a fun symbol and irony that exactly around 100 years after their claim we bolt have decolonise Algeria and build a Mosque in that area answering indirectly dua of a great number of our forefathers »).

@@antinordix7467 yep the idea of building a symbolic mosque in that area as a symbol was originally choose and vote in the local FLN meeting of 1974 (10 years after the independence, some name of those people involved are : Ghazali Bachir and his brother Tahar, Laribi Mohamed Salah, Sebki and Mustapha Kaddouche) after a proposition made by the local. The change name was made in 1976 after a proposition of the local muezzin.

Do you know the history of Notre-Dame-D’Afrique Cathedral? She is the twin sister of Notre-Dame-La-Garde Cathedral in Marseille, France. The two Cathedrals face each other on the sides of the Mediterranean, to symbolize the bridge between the two countries, and the two cultures and religions. Inside Notre Dame d'Afrique, it is written on the walls of the church "Pray for us and our Muslim brothers".

Algeria was mostly Muslims before the French colonization but still there was a Minority of Christians and jews living all together with the same rights as any other Muslim country then the French come and separated them and give Christians and Jews who accepted the French Nationality full rights and give the Muslim zero rights so once Algeria took it' independence most of the Christians and Jews who become part of the colonialism entity run away

I went to church in Annaba "which is another city from Algeria" There was a courtyard in the center of the church, we met one of the female workers, I don't know what they call them, who work in the church hahaha😅 sadly she speak only french and I couldn't understand her due to my poor language ahaha The beautiful thing is that there is a nursing home in the same church that takes care of old men and even takes care of elderly Muslims. Isn’t it beautiful This is how the world should revolve around, there is no hatred between religions, the basis is respect and kindness

My great-great-grandmother was of mixed Maltese and Algerian descent. This is likely due to intermarriage that occurred in the 1800s. A family from Malta migrated to Algeria, where one member married an Algerian Christian. Later, the family moved to Sicily. Perhaps the churches you're interested in are connected to this migration and marriage.

Edit: To my beloved Algerians, read the last lines. Please make sure not to spread wrong information if you are not sure, Islam came in 5th century , and later it was Algeria that occupied Spain (Andalous) by the Zirids Dynasty which is the real name of Algeria Dzair so Algeria used this name since the 9th century it was always Algeria, later after the fall of andalous that Spain tried to occupy both Morocco and Algeria in the 15th century so Algeria made a deal with the ottomans and won against Spain, later we had a strong naval army called Rias Lbahr who controlled the whole Mediterranean sea, With the name Algiers or Kingdom of Algiers, later in the 1830 french after years of spying occupied algeria. And as a plus Algerian dynasties after Islam were all pure Algerians and native amazigh so I'm not sure what I meant by it wasn't Algeria P.S: Edit: To my beloved Algerians, do not reply to Makhzeni Z!onists comments under my comment let them help us get more views by them showing how poor their educational system without interacting with them.

Zirids did not occupy Al Andalous which were controlled by Ummayad. the Zirids themselves broke into multiple family branches starting 11th century and one of them moved to Granada and took power over the city and it's region, while the rest of Al Andalous brok into small kingdoms (taifa) in each major city. 80 years later, Almoravides, who were Moroccans, took back full control of Al Andalous.
