Is there really RELIGION in The Sims 2?

Hi simmers!
The holiday season is rapidly coming nearer (or is it already here?), and what better time to explore the holidays. The video is not exhaustive and I have just tried to gather the things I have noticed. So please forgive (and correct in the comments!) any mistakes, insufficiencies or lacking nuances - or any details that I missed.
I have a feeling that this video are a bit more controversiel than my others - because religion as a general concept both connect and divide people. But The Sims is just a game, and I have only chosen to publish this video because of December. So please come together for The Sims and join my quest for hints that the sims-creators thought to include the concept of belief to the game, and to explore even more details in The Sims 2.

i definitely noticed the cowplant artwork, i was so shocked as a kid when i found it. i think it’s super cool to find little details like these, they add so much to the experience.

I definitely see it in Sims 3 Medieval and Sims 2 Castaway Stories. I haven't played Sims2 enough to see it.

There is no sims 3 medieval it’s just sims medieval

its cool that the made up religion in the sims 2 coincides with the religion 'made' for the sims medieval!! "the watchers eye" or "the eye of the watcher" represents the player and your will to control their lives as their god, but they dont know it. thats why they have two different cathedrals, the peteran and jacoban ones, and the player decides which is the 'right' or 'wrong' religion (basically choosing which is more powerful/popular), or you can keep all your subjects atheist! i think its cool that you can be decidedly non-religious in a game based sooo long ago. might not even be realistic to have atheism that far back but i still think its a fun feature

Great video! About the paradise thing, the grim reaper can take a sim by sort of offering them paradise whith the hula zombies and stuff

Hi, I just thought of a somewhat ''morbid'' way of maybe bringing Bella back, well, ghost children are problematic in the game because they go to the Default family and as they appear at night, the only adults available to look for them Are the NPCs universal right? Well, in Belavista's Default family, Bella is there, alive, just not unliked, so if Alexander passed away, would Bella appear at night at the Goth mansion to look for her son's ghost?

Does the product description in the catalog in Buy Mode also describe the chandelier as a "menorah"?

Yes, it's called 'Chanukah Menorah' 😊

Apparently I can't insert a photo to a comment. The description in buy mode says: Chanukah Menorah Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, celebrates the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem. It is also a celebration of the miracle of the oil that burned for eight days when there was only enough for one. This miracle is commemorated by lighting a candle on the menorah each night for eight nights, plus one candle called the Shamash, which is used to light the other candles. Environment: 1 So it also describes the holiday and its use😊

There's also the statue of the grey lady in nightlife, who is pretty obviously reminiscent of a saint, down to her dying a tragic death and now protects children from that manner of death

there was some region specific store content holiday stuff (i think it was for germany) that included a nativity set with some crosses if i'm not mistaken.

@@Reese-sim if you go on the internet archive and search for "DieSims2 de Archive" you'll find the nativity set and "Das Nachtleben Vorwegnehmen" has a cross that was appearantly for the nightlife pack.

Interesting topic. The first thing I thought of was one of the buildings in a Strangetown community lot that looks like it could have been a small church. I don’t know if you showed a picture of it or not. I also thought of the holiday stuff. There is also some mission style furniture. I think that the name might imply that there were missions/missionaries. Also, if you don’t mind me asking, what is your native language?

Thank you for commenting. Actually it was the church-building in the Strangetown community lot that got me this idea - but I totally forgot to include it in the actual video🙃 My native language is danish, so I hope my english is understandable 😊

I was just wondering because in the Sims 1 piano video, you had said you didn’t speak German, and I had initially thought you were German. I didn’t think to ask it then.

@@Reese-sim Ok good. I’m from the USA. I’m learning Spanish, but I’m kind of hesitant to say that I speak it. I’m mostly of German descent, but I do actually have a little bit of Danish ancestry. I’m pretty sure that my great great grandmother was from Denmark! I think it’s pretty cool how many people play Sims around the world! Does Sims 2 have an option to play in Danish, or do you have to use a different language? I know you showed English text in the video.

I have played the sims in danish my entire childhood, and until I started doing these videos (I only changed to english for the videos) 😊 😊 I tried for some time to play in german, and it's actually a really good way to broaden the vocabulary when practising a foreign language.

I think the most compelling evidence of religion in the Sims 2 actually comes from the PSP adaptation. Although "real world" religion isn't mentioned, they have a bovine sect / religious group. idk maybe its just me, but I've always seen them as a religious sect and I love the concept applied to the sims, especially since it doesn't really take inspiration from any religion that exists (yes, in hinduism cows can be considered sacred, but its very different from the way in which they implemented it in the game).
