Thank you! I have been dealing with insomnia and I use ketone IQ to get back to sleep and to wake up clear headed.

They help my focus. Being the sole caregiver of an elderly parent-single and only child-they give me extra energy and help me with the benefits of ketosis I miss by struggling to stay low carb 100% of the time. Plus my cortisol levels / stress hormones stay peeked so it feels like they help there as well, at least some. My body will ache from the 24/7 alert. Thank you for being so consistently helpful and caring.

I know how you feel about stress and being a caregiver I am in pain everyday and mycortisol levels very high. I have high BP and BSugar even on doing keto and intermittent fasting 18/6 because of stress don't know what to do or take to bring down stress!

I sometimes use MCT oil to bump my ketones up. Works good for me. I would really like to maintain my GKI under or very near 3 but find that very hard to do. 3rd year carnivore.

Dr. Boz has a pure BHB called Pucker Up but for me it rarely raises my ketones and it's incredibly expensive. I love the sour taste of pure BHB liquid.

Dr Bikman, I’m very interested in your remark about plaque and it being caused by too many minerals and you have to scrape off. I have the same issue and have been trying to figure out what is going on. I had heard plaque forms within 3 hours, so I constantly brush and floss like crazy but it still forms. My hygienist thinks I’m negligent in my cleaning. I also study bacteria and I’m wondering if I’m lacking or have a bacteria I should not have. If you have any further thoughts on this topic could you please share in a video. Thanks. I also can not eat late as it keeps me awake.

Wow ketone salts and esters as exogenous ketones aren't harmful except for excess salt deposits

Goats Milk ( RAW best ) has 20-35% of MCT in it and it great carnivore source of it.

Your body will use ketones before sugar if they are present simultaneously, as with say, MCT oil with a meal.

you say that some ketone supplements are better than others, any pointers to the ones you consider good?

After watching this video (thank you by the way, I have this question, too) I went online to see if I could get a ketone ester powder. It seems they mostly are raspberry based. Is this source effective?

Given that it doesn't serve as being exogenous ketones (as far as I know) how is it that caprylic acid (C8) increases ketones??
@smooth_pursuit

MCTs, especially C8, are readily converted to ketones in the liver

Maybe a little diarrhea with the exogenous ketone salts. Hehe otherwise not bad. I do wonder, could someone get their energy from exogenous ketones, then supplement for vitamins and nutrients and never eat? I wouldn't try that lol but just wonder the difference between an exogenous ketone and endogenous ketone is at the cellular level.?

It's an interesting question. Based on the paper below by George Cahill, one of the founding fathers of starvation research BHB ketone has 4.69 Kcal/g (or 5 Cal), while glucose has 3.72 Kcal/g (or ~ 4 Cal). It means that ketones have more energy per gram than carbs. First, you'd have to go with exogenous ketone esters, since drinking ketone salts won't be practical due to mineral content. Second, for example, H.V.M.N. Ketone-IQ ester drink contains 70 Cal per 35 ml (and has 350 ml in one bottle), so to get 2000 Cal, you need to drink about 3 bottles of such ester drink. They sell 3 bottles for 120 USD. So theoretically, you can do it, but it's very expensive and impractical. You'd better off with endogenous ketones, unless you have less than 5 % of body fat, which is unlikely to happen to an average person. Cahill GF Jr. Fuel metabolism in starvation. Annu Rev Nutr. 2006;26:1-22. doi: 10.1146/annurev.nutr.26.061505.111258. PMID: 16848698.

@ScienceAppliedForGood nice 👌 thank you fellow human! Hopefully you don't mind me asking. When consuming say potassium bhb, How much of a 10gram serving is potassium and how much of that is BHB? It's a wonder 🤔 are we getting half and half? 25% potassium 75% bhb? Also. This would vary ( assuming , I'm not a chemist) depending on the bound minerals. Potassium may not bind as much bhb v.s. calcium and so on? Not to make you do the searching but if you have it on the top of your head , thanks 😃

@@ScienceAppliedForGoodSo, then, for those of us lurking under the 5% body fat mark, what might be your suggestion of optimal exogenous ketones, to keep brain healthy if not able to constantly refuel/prone to high cortisol (and insomnia) with anti-inflammatory-low carb eating. Thank you . . . and specifics highly valued. (65 yrs 105 lbs, ideally wishing to gain weight of any type)

Exogenous ketones have nor useful role to paly in any diet. If you want to lose weight then you want to be getting your keytones from the break down of your body fat. Eating energy through Exo-ketones is just going to impede that process. If you want your ketostick to go red then Meh! But That is not the goal, surely? Eat real ketongenic foods.

I have cancer and am working hard at trying to produce ketones. I have to lower protein and up the fat to do this. I have Lipedema as well. I have around 50lbs to lose too. Is all this excess fat (energy) intake for the sake of ketones worse for my lipedema and weight loss? I’m post menopausal as well.
