Me too. 48 years old and I watched them from the beginning all the way down in little old New Zealand. Watching this video brought back so many great memories.
Its hard to imagine not growing up with them- we listened to the whole License to ill album in my 5th grade music class. Music teacher must have know something !
Beastie Boys were also instrumental in getting Public Enemy signed, and when inducting them into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame, Chuck D said that touring with them taught Public Enemy stagecraft and how to be a band. They’re probably the most influential rap group of all time.
NWA/Dr Dre sampled a lot of Beasties from Licensed to Ill on the NWA debut album, and that album taught Dre how to be a better producer, eventually leading to the whole G-Funk west coast sound.
The Beastie Boys released 8 albums from 1986 through 2011. They went platinum, double platinum, triple platinum, and even diamond. They opened on tours for Run-DMC and Madonna. They had Public Enemy open for them on tour. They are one of the few rap groups to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I recommend the official music videos for "3 MCs and 1 DJ", "Sure Shot", "Pass the Mic", "Sabotage", "Root Down", and especially "Shake Your Rump".
I saw the Public enemy concert when the opened for beastie boys, Murphy’s law opened for public enemy. Murphy’s law were from queens, wild punk band . Barbaque was their hit
Still, my favorite song (and video) by them has to be "Sabotage." They did the entire thing as if it was one big trailer for a 70's cop TV show. The Beastie Boys is one of the most unique groups out there, and always did their own thing. RIP Adam, we'll miss you.
Beastie Boys doing exactly what theyve always wanted to do all these years later, make you groove to some good hip hop and put a smile on your face. RIP MCA
The first time I saw these boys Public Enemy opened for them. The next time it was Sonic Youth. You don't get much different. That's one of the reasons I love them = there were no barriers to what type of music they'd play or support
Three MCs and one DJ. You will not regret it. What I always liked about the Beastie Boys was that they only came as a set, you got all of them, or none of them. They didn't release solo albums, and after MCA (AKA Adam Yauch) passed, they did not continue. RIP MCA
We’ve been listening this forever! My 3 and 4 year old grandsons know every word and nothing is more fun than watching them get ready for the beats to drop!
Beastie Boys have so many incredible songs and music videos, check out: Shake Your Rump, 3 MCs and 1 DJ, Hey Ladies, Shadrach, Rhymin & Stealin, Professor Booty, Car Thief, High Plains Drifter, Root Down, Pass the Mic....I could go on and on
Beastie Boys are amazing. they are so many genres at once. Their entire catalogue is unique and each song tells a different story from the background music to the lyrics to the way they use their voices. one of a kind pioneers
Check out some of the first album from 1986... Rhymin & Stealin...and No Sleep Till Brooklyn are two of my favorites. (Edit)...almost forgot...The New Style...
Not sure if you only want songs that have videos but one of my favorite songs is Get It Together. Q Tip is on it with them and it’s SOOOOO FUN! it’s from 1994. The Beastie Boys were ahead of their time and remain timeless
Dude, it is SO FUN to watch you experience the Beasties for the first time!! They have a huge catalog of amazing music, you have so much great stuff to discover. You should listen to "Sabotage" next
I love seeing these reaction videos with the subject being the Beastie Boys. I still remember first hearing “Fight For Your Right” at the age of twelve and saving my allowance to by the cassette when it came out. That was also my first cassette period. It sparked my love for them and waiting for each album which was an agonizing wait for the new album release. In each album you can hear them grow up not only musically, but spiritually and their reactions to social and political issues. Most of their videos were paying homage to a film or television genre and you could tell how much they loved what they did. My one and only regret was not being able to see them live when I had the chance. True Hip Hop royalty that inspired and motivated many artists. That’s why you hear so many artists, and celebrities speak so highly and have mad respect for them. Before they met Rick Ruben, Kate Schellenbach was their drummer when they were a punk band and when she left, ended up drummer for Luscious Jackson and were signed to the Beasties label Grand Royal.
The Beastie Boys are still the biggest selling Hip-Hop artists of all time. They were the third rap group inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame in 2012. Two other great songs are ‘Paul Revere’ and what some consider a sequel to that: ‘High Plains Drifter’. Both tell stories
@@byzinski Good call it’s complicated. They are the biggest selling Rap group by albums sold. So there are many solo artists who have sold more units, which are both physical units and downloads.
The Beastie Boys story is pretty incredible. They were always real and true to themselves whether it was punk rock or hip hop. They did it the right way, the real way. And no matter how music changed, the Beastie Boys adapted and remained relevant for over 30 years.
This is arguably one of THE HYPEST beastie boys songs ever. No matter who you are, you can’t NOT move to this beat. I’m glad this one hit you hard- it’s a hard hitter for sure.
Trailblazers of sampling. Widely recognized as highly influential. Punk rock / hip-hop / funk fusion. Having so much fun in their craft. Progressively taking ownership of any mistakes they made early on in their approach to their image as artists. Showing respect and love to everyone. Smart, funny, & clever lyrics and word-play. Never selling out, even to this day. If you truly knew nothing about them, be prepared to have them fall deep into your heart as one of the greatest musical groups ever.
This came out when I was still in high school. Whenever a new album dropped, someone would buy it and play on a huge stereo system they had set up in the campus quad. They played Intergalactic every day for at least a couple of months.
The lyrics, the chorography, the comedy, the songs energy and every other thing in this song make this a truly musically fun watch. We missed out hard on this group's performances live cause they're not touring anymore.😢
Haa brooo your reaction when the beat first kicks in in the beginning is GOLD!! This was really fun to see someone give such genuine vibe and respect for the Beasties! I'm 51 and literally been a fan since the Cookie Puss album in the mid-80's BEFORE Licensed To Ill. I still have their albums on CD's and cassette tapes! This is awesome.
Bro you gotta check out 3 MC's and 1 DJ. Done in one take, with their DJ making the beat single-handedly scratching on one record, with some dope rhymes on top of it. So much skill in one song, it's a must watch
It's crazy. A Beastie Boys song could come out right now and you wouldn't even know it was from the 80s. As an older person, it amazes me what bands have stood the test of time and what hasn't. For example, I NEVER would have thought Journey would still be popular 30+ years later.
Try SHAKE YOUR RUMP by Beastie Boys. The song is 🔥! You won’t believe how amazing the sampling of the beat is. It’s insane. They are honestly one of the greats of all time imo.
This is what 100% original and true to yourself sounds like, they had fun, they moved you deep, the took the craft seriously and respected the industry, makes me happy watching you.
I mean they’re up there on eminems list of inspirations, one of his album covers was based directly on a beastie boys album cover, one of the all time greats I feel incredibly lucky to have seen live
LOVE the Beasties!! This one is a little more obscure, but you'd really enjoy them on David Letterman, "Ch..Check it Out" live performance on the street into the studio & totally flawless!😉♥️
I saw them at The Greek, their last performance on the West Coast, 2nd to last performance before MCA’s passing & the end of the group. That still hurts, can’t lie. My fave track of theirs is “Gratitude”, a life philosophy really. And yes, the entire “Check Your Head” album. Enjoy your listening of their oeuvre-it is vast!
My guy when you get a chance you gotta check out “new style” by the beastie boys, and you should watch the video of LL Cool J inducing the beastie boys into the rock n roll hall of fame.
From their first album LICENSED TO ILL - Paul Revere, No Sleep till Brooklyn, Hold it now-hit it, and my favorite- GIRLS! Other great classics- Shake your rump, Hey ladies, Sure shot, Body Movin, & another favorite - Three MC's and One DJ Lots of bangers down this rabbit hole! Even though it wasn't one of their favorite songs to do, the video "Fight for your right" is pretty damn funny & it played constantly on MTV back in 1986 (I was 19 yrs old at the time). 🙂
Great reaction! You get it.. The Beastie Boys are all about fun.. Dope beats and rhymes, funny and creative videos. They weren't trying to be the hardest, or big with the ladies, etc.. They just tried to make Grade A hip-hop.
You gotta add this one to your list.. The Beasties were already great, adding Mix Master Mike just added another level, this is just pure hip hop - Beastie Boys - Three MC's and One DJ (Official Music Video) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XflfiylNNXY.html
3 MC's and 1 DJ is a fun one! I like "Gratitude" which honors Pink Floyd Pompeii video. Beastie Boys probably sampled more Led Zeppelin beats than anyone and they have so many albums of pure fire - diversity also. Check out them with Nas!
Not sure if anyone has suggested this yet but on your own take a look at some of their live performances, whether on a late night show or in concert, they play a lot of their own instruments too, they are truly legendary! I'm such a fan of them I feel like there is no single bad song in their discography. There is a lot there, and a lot of different styles and I love the all!!
One of the greatest and most influential music groups of all time! 3 MCs & 1 DJ is the song/video that usually convinces people that the Beasties are the real deal.
Love these Beastie Boys reactions, I'd suggest "Shake Your Rump" or "Paul Revere" if you want more of their rap sound, or "Egg Raid on Mojo" if you want to hear when they were a punk rock band
Just FYI that "let the beat mmm drop" is sampled from their song "The New Style" from their album "Licensed to Ill" (1986). That was my introduction to them (I had it on cassette!) and is still my favorite of all their stuff. ❤️
It really blows my mind how the Beasties could have fallen off the cultural radar so far that young folks who are hiphop fans have NEVER heard of them. Boggles the mind.
Welcome my friend ❤️ I really hope you do another video of theirs tonight! I’m going to recommend “Shake Your Rump” but honestly, they don’t have a bad song.
If anyone is wondering... the Classical piece at the beginning is called Night On Bald Mountain composed by Modest Mussorgsky and was most famously used in the Disney psychedelic classic Fantasia... not to be confused with the Godzilla theme used in Pharaohe Monch's Simon Says....
Yes. Yes they were. Made their beats, played the instruments, wrote their own lyrics, AND made their own album art! Made hip hop commercially viable and did it their way! The videos were insane too!❤️🔥🌶
Memories! When this cd came out, one of the radio stations played the whole disc. Loved it! Me and my friends driving around listening. Bought it cuz I had to have it. Those high school days lol.
“They even got the robot over there doing The Robot!” 🤣🤣🤣 Oh man, you made me laugh so hard I was crying. This is such a beautiful thing watching someone hear something as great as the Beasties for the first time. I haven’t watched all your videos or read all the comments yet, but I highly recommend you check out “Beastie Boys Story”. It’s their documentary. You can only see it on Apple+ but it is so worth it. Keep on keeping on. Cheers!
The one thing that you don't see any more in rap, an actual dj scratchin records, it was a common thing back in the 80s and mid 90s miss those days I'm 50 and they did their thing and are still relevant today never gets old hearing them or any other artists from the 80s era.
Took a chance, bought their License to Ill record in 86... became an instant fan! So unique, fresh and vaulted over the socio-cultural barriers. I can honestly say they were the good ol' days. ♡
The Beastie Boys started in 1979. They released I believe 8 studio albums. Sadly Adam Yauch passed away May 4th, 2012 at the age of 47 from cancer. As a guy who grew up listening to The Beastie Boys, their music is and always was amazing. They did their own thing and never tried to imitate anyone else. The Beastie Boys rock!
On the cover of Beastie Boys "Solid Gold" album, the boys are posing with a JVC M90 "Ghetto blaster". That is the same radio on the cover of LL Cool J "Radio" album.
The Beastie Boys did some punk shows under a different name after Aglio E Olio was released. They wanted to go back to their punk roots and didn't want large crowds. So they played with Amery Smith from Suicidal Tendencies under the name Quasar. So they drove around in a van and played small shows and house parties around the Pacific Rim. They also did a tour a Japan where they first wore the outfits seen in this video. So yeah, those outfits are from their punk band called Quasar.
The best part of these beastie reviews is that you remind me of ME 25 or 30 years ago when I first heard them. I was all grins. The video was so wacky even back then
These guys were good to see live. Once I saw them in Phoenix in '98. MCA, the leader who passed away from cancer in May of 2012, noticed an A-hole causing big problems in a mosh pit and stopped the show cold. He refused to continue until the bad guy was taken out be police and security. Total, 100% class act to the end.
Christmas break from HS, dec 1986 I was on the varsity basketball team and we had practice. Coach let us play music during warm ups and someone puts in LICENSE TO ILL, the Beastie Boys debut album. Holy cow... awesome. They were so different than anything Id ever heard. For me, they are the greatest rap group ever.
Released in 1998! I love this! Grew up with the Beasties. U.N.I.T.E. B side of Hello Nasty. They won a Grammy for this! When MCA passed, NYC gave him a holiday. They are Royalty...Oh, they use instruments, 2 turntables, a mixer, and an SB12. Filmed in 8mm. No digital bs. Mixmaster Mike does not get his due. And An Open Letter to NYC will make you cry bro
Love how happy they make you look! They were the first rap i listened to in the 90's when I was a teenager, took many years but I'm a huge rap fan now, without them if wouldn't have happened! They're definitely THE og's!
