Is this $55 Hotel on Sukhumvit Road Worth the Wait? Find Out! (2024)

My budget is around 2,000 Thai Baht or $55. And I'm looking for a new, clean, modern hotel which must be on Sukhumvit Road, close to the big shopping malls and the world famous nightlife.
On paper, the fairly recently opened Ibis Styles Phrakanong Sukhumvit ticks all the boxes. But what's it actually like to stay there? This honest review based on a real stay, paid for from my own pocket, should tell you everything you need to know.
I stayed in January 2024. Was it worth it? Take a look and decide for yourself!

Thank you for sharing. My fave is LYF in Sukhumvit 8 closed to Nana station (~1250 baht). Another one is FX Metrolink Makkasan (~1k baht).

Sadly, I have also stayed with IBIS a couple of times in my life. Their hotels usually have a good location, but the service has never been great. Anyway, thanks for the comprehensive review.

Interesting. Thought I might have just been a tad unlucky this time. They've got a promotion on Facebook where if you book direct, you can check out at 2 pm. That probably doesn't help. If the price is right, it's good enough, but some independents seem to take more care!

Rough start but I like the location. I think sometimes the lobby personnel are too focused on what the internet is saying and Not the actual Human waiting for their room to be ready.! I remember being early for a check-in at a budget hotel in central Pattaya and they brought me a Beer!

You're right, PFI. Overall it was a good place and I'm a big fan of that area. It's where I lived for nearly 10 years so its a second home! There's always going to be times the customer has to wait. It happens. But that's when a small gesture goes a long way to soothing frustration. A small beer would have done the trick!

Thanks BC. Yes I have seen the Ibis hotels, one here in Pattaya near Soi 4 I think. Good price for location likely. I remembered the Tai Pan hotel off Soi 23 in Asoke I stayed at in the 90's...was a favorite back then, looked it up and see the rates are very reasonable still.

Thanks, Ric. Yes, I'd say you get what you pay for with the Ibis chain. Solid if unspectacular from my experience. I might have to look up your old favorite and try it on a future visit!

great vid, fair enough for the price. does that include 2 legged pet friendly. when in Bangkok I stay at the Shangri-la Hotel

Thanks BB. I think you could bring in a lion cub, and nobody would notice! So I'm sure a 'small pet' would be no problem! That S-L hotel isn't cheap? I'll start saving up for it!

Great review as always. I stayed at Sukhumvit Suites small but good location near Asoke. BTS and MRT within 2 min walking distance

I stayed in this hotel over new years eve 2023 into 24. I enjoyed it, until the roaches started becoming a problem.

Ibis Styles (green) are not standard Ibis (red) Hotels, being all different styles of decor and room. So difficult to know what you'll get. The other standards ARE Ibis level (though not the check-in at this one apparently). Someone will have had a word by now I reckon. Good vid as usual 👍👍+1.

Thanks, Andrew. Interesting info on the difference between standard Ibis and Ibis styles branding. Because I'd searched for it, Facebook showed me their latest promotion, which offers midday check-in and 2pm check out for direct bookings. Maybe that why the room wasn't ready! Anyway, overall, still a nice place!

@@balloonchaser Pretty certain the downward communication on the customer advantages of that promotion hadn't been robust enough. Those at the coalface are often the last to know about anything 😔.

@@balloonchaser There's also Ibis Budget (blue). The Ibis Styles properties are mostly managed not owned although that isn't an excuse for poor internal communication from marketing. Last Ibis red we stayed at was at Avignon station overlooking the platforms - quadruple glazing, not a whisper. Our son was with Accor for 15 years until put off by the raving mad and violent UK clientele during Co*** - mind-boggling stories. Does something completely different now. 👍

@andrewrobinson2565 Yes, that's spot on in my experience. I'm sure they was a member of staff from housekeeping running round cleaning rooms in 20 mins after guests checked out at 2pm!

@andrewrobinson2565 Thanks for all the imput, Andrew. All very interesting stuff! I don't think I've stayed in many Ibis properties. I guess all of the big chains have their strengths and weaknesses! I certainly wouldn't want to work as a receptionist. Too much hassle for the rewards on offer!
