Another great review. Laughed at you calling Westchester Upstate NY. Upstaters will tell you you have to be north or west of Albany to make that distinction. Do really like the channel and always look forward to your next port.
The hot dog is the only foodstuff where the more mutilated, split, sliced up, diced up, spiral cut, hacked to pieces, overcooked, charred, burnt, blistered and unrecognizable it is, the more delicious it becomes somehow. Lately I've become addicted to homemade Nathan's hot dogs cut on a bias on both sides and air-fried til crispy and bubbling, but these look like some dogs worth traveling for.
i make frozen diced potatoes w green peeppers and onions and eggs coffee or bacon sometime yes cris liked the mustard in his video the diced has little salt just potatoes ffrom supermarket
As someone who went to Mamaroneck High School -- just across the street from Walter's -- I can fairly say I've eaten more there than anyone else who subscribe to you, a legacy of eating hot dogs that goes so far back the stand was barely 50 years old when I first ate there. Back then, the menu was more limited, the marketing non-existent and the only place to get those incredible hot dogs was at the original stand -> this was decades before food trucks became a thing. Former residents of Mamaroneck were known to drive hours to return to eat. You aced two of your choices, the standard hot dog and curly fries, both standouts for many decades. On the shake front, back when I lived there, there was just one type and if was thick -- they put six scoops of chocolate ice cream into each chocolate milk shake, and the richer, chocolate flavor matched perfectly with the curly fries and hot dogs. The location across from the high school made it even more of an institution as students would line up during lunch breaks. My favorite time to go was before Saturday afternoon football games in the fall. In the many years since I left Mamaroneck -- and I left for good in the mid-1990s -- I run into other alum who are either much older or younger than me but we share in common the bond of Walter's: everyone still craves them. For those who don't know Mamaroneck, it's a community with harbors on the Long Island Sound halfway between NYC and Connecticut. It was also Hollywood before Hollywood --> the original film studios were in NY and not LA and many of the stars and major producers and directors bought homes in a ritzier part of town called the Manor. It's a 35 minute train ride to Grand Central Station and so a popular place for those who work in Manhattan to live. As for pronunciation, the word is a Native American name translated as "the place where the sweet waters fall into the sea" and we locals pronounce it "Muh-MARrow-Neck" with the emphasis on the second syllable. The other long-standing must-eat there is Sal's Pizzeria, especially their Sicilian slices.
Whenever I've cooked on a flat top I've always split hot dogs down the middle and I've never heard of Walter's until now. I also add x cross score marks that look great after grilling. Doing both helps the heat penatrate to the middle of the hot dog.
I love Walter’s, I love your reviews. Pro Tip- if a town is 17 miles away from Manhattan it’s not “upstate New York” lol ;). Keep the awesome content coming!
a long time ago we went to nathans long island now its at home or arenas no stores really just delivery fries are great frozen and make your own at home we got 5c dogs with one
UA I loved how you said" Mean Hot Dogs" thats how everyone I grew up with in Bklyn said when we describe good food. Like yo they have some "Mean a.. Burgers, Pizza, Sandwiches, Hot Dogs etc Good looks UA love your food reviews. Wish many of the local spots I grew up eating at still were around for you to have tried. Especially this Cuban-Asian place that sadly closed long ago.
Yes, a garbage plate episode would be great! Also hot dogs at Ted’s (Buffalo), Dogtown (Rochester) and Heid’s (Syracuse). You Could even make a Buffalo wings and beef on weck episode for an ultimate road trip! Love the videos!
I agree Western NY has great hot dogs. Rochester = White Hots, Red Hots at Bill Gray's and the Garbage Plate at Nick Tahou's. Buffalo has Ted's with amazing char-grilled foot long hot dogs.
No! Do not do a video on garbage plates. There are enough of them and it's schlock, crap Americana gluttonous shame. If you want a cheeseburger, go to classic chrome diner and have a quality one. Don't pile on the burger, macaroni cheese, tater tots, baked beans, cole slaw, split hot dogs all squirted with mustard and ketchup. If you want a hot dog, you get a quality one like Walter's with a side of beans or cole slaw, not the cheap quality meat in a garbage plate with all of the other cheap stuff.
Quality can be hit or miss at Walters. Seems like they have taken some shortcuts like that milkshake (maybe a mix instead of real ice cream). Double dog with mustard please! Great review UA!
Just got home from a long day and when I saw your post I was psyched to watch something wholesome that could take my mind off everything......Keep up the good work thanks
It's pronounced ma-maron-neck. Thanks so much for the incredible reviews! You really give a thorough analysis of the food which most others don't do. Your videos helped me find great food.
Terrific Dogs UA! Great review! The dogs are made specially for them and the mustard contains a small amount of relish. Unlike any other dogs. No other toppings. No Kraut or red onion sauce. You did what we all have done, driven for over an hour in traffic for a Walter’s Dog! Happy NY! NealyB
I've always like sauerkraut on my dogs, especially ROSOFF kraut in a 24 0z.glass jar that was made in BOSTON, Mass........Anyhow the company was sold to a MIAMI Corp. and now they are out of business.......
UA FYI, Mamaroneck, New York is not “upstate New York” it’s Westchester County . The closest county to New York City, the Bronx. They are delicious hotdogs. It really helps that they split the dog. You should get a double hotdog on one bun.
Poor Tina, all she got to try was the curley fries I believe. You ate the hot dogs! Hopefully you squared things away and got her something else from the menu selection. But once again, totally enjoyed your review. Excellent job. You need to make the drive down to the Philadelphia Area and do some reviews in our area.
Since Joe DeCicco of DeCicco & Sons married Katharine Woodward of Walter’s Hot Dogs, it is not surprising that Walter's Hot Dogs are available at all DeCicco & Sons locations and I understand these to be uncooked and packaged for you to take home and cook.
I enjoyed your video very much. I love going to Mamaroneck, but I've never heard of Walters Hotdogs. Will have to check it out. Thank you for sharing 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I love Westchester County! That hot dog looks EXCELLENT I hit Notify Me for the Premiere! I'm curious about the funnel cake sticks - for dessert I think you ATE Tina's hot dog! What else did you order? Nice drive!
I used to work in town, this was was amazing. The split is the best idea ever for a hot dog. Makes a hot dog more charred burger like than soft water dog.
I love hot dogs and I understand that some brands are much better than others, but it's the chili that each establishment has to offer than makes them stand out. I wouldn't even think of ordering a hot dog without the special recipies of chili each place has.
Hot dog, fries, onion ring. Varsity in Atl or Athens, GA. Cannot go jun.... than that as far as I know. And don't forget frosted orange. Both together is such a guilty pleasure. But some how, I don't feel guilty. It is a treat, well, once in a while.
Mamaroneck isn’t considered upstate New York. It used to have a great hot dog restaurant on the Post Road call Cooks. A favorite place when I was a kid.
Westchester is NOT upstate NY! It is right above the Bronx. Walters is probably the best hot dog in Westchester now. I grew up closer to Nathan's on Central Avenue and thought those were better and back then they were, But nowadays Walter's sticking with the same processes and hot dogs for years it is the best in Westchester. On a nice day nothing beats 2 doubles, fries and a shake outside at Walter's. Oh and another note, the dogs do not travel well over 10 minutes. Eat there or VERY closeby.
@@hoppysport2872 I wouldn't go that extreme. BUT Nathan's did remodel I want to say in the 2000's sometime removing about 2/3 of the building and re-doing all of the kitchens which didn't prepare the hot dogs or the fries the same as they did before. The kitchens/griddles/fryers were in that place for 50+ years and yeah they seemed to know how to cook them right back in the day.
Have you gone to the first hamburger play in Connecticut? I went with my family in 2015, I think it's in Stamford Connecticut. The line was long, the wait was long. But the burgers were amazing!!! Not your typical burger and Do Not Ask For Ketchup!!!!
I really enjoy your reviews UA, but I always feel sorry for Tina. Did she ever get any food? You ate her puffy dog you were just going to take a bite out of. She is a real trooper. I wouldn't want you to be tearing through all of my food and having to wait until it gets cold (if I get any of it) to eat it.
@@ramencurry6672 LOL what a control freak. Do you get upset when people at the table don't stick to topics you're comfortable with? Maybe because, duhh, it's a free country
@@hailandfire1822 I don’t mind off topic stuff if it’s actually interesting. However a lot of off topic stuff is derogatory though. Do you support the derogatory comments?
The regular hot dog looks great. There are lots of different mustards but it’s hard to improve on Heinz ketchup. Curly fries look good too. Pass on the milk shake.
I live in Westchester; we are not upstate. Many of our town names come from Native Americans. Fortunately, Ma-mar-o-neck sounds just like it spells. If you are interested in unusual architecture, you should also visit the Mamaroneck Skinny House. That house is 10 feet wide and 3 stories high, the skinniest around. It is about a mile from Walters. Just like the Halal guys, Walters brick and mortar dogs are usually better than the carts.
Love your content but just for future referenceanywhere in the NYC area is not considered Upstate. Upstate is Albany Syracuse Rochester Buffalo and anywhere north of that!
Ma-mar-o-neck. 😂 Not upstate NY. This is my Walter’s order: a double dog with Walter’s hot dog mustard (it’s mixed with pickle relish), potato puffs on the side. Summers in the suburbs!
ive gone to walters probably 200 times in my life, easily the best hot dog ive ever had, and its not even close, also the ice cream is amazing, they make it themselves. P.S, pretzel bun is the way to go
Hey great channel u just earned a new subscriber sir but please turn the music off or atleast down I wanna hear u talk and the crunch in your bites sometimes that says alot
i feel like these hotdogs, the old school ones with pork/beef hybrid are like what jersey pork roll is. good in their own way especially with the char/maillard.
beef-pork and veal dogs from Boar's Head to their specs, when I was in school [up the hill] in the early 60's, the dogs were 15 each/ two for 25 cents supermarket Boar's Head pork/beef dogs a close second
Walter's is the best. I get the double dog with Walter's mustard. I recommend Super Duper Winnie in Fairfield CT as another great hot 🌭 dog stand. They are known for all the house-made toppings.
The plain dog is supposed to be flat. For some inexplicable reason you folded the dog over so it was double thickness with excess bun. For a good hot dog explore NJ. Plenty of fantastic Texas Weiners. And Rutts Hutt.
