Is This Bromeliad Under Watered? Sometimes some of our bromeliads don’t get all the water that they need! Whether they are just out of reach of our watering or shaded by other plants, is there any way to tell if an individual bromeliad is stressed from not enough water when all the rest are well watered? Let’s take a look and find out! Taking care of our bromeliads is really easy, so come on everybody, ”Let’s get growing and have some fun!”

Hi Rusty. Great video once again. We finally had some rain fall last night here in Minneapolis so my Bromeliads are looking good right now. The rain barrels filled up quite a bit as well. I do really well in the rains and humidity of summer. My biggest struggle is in the Winter. Trying to keep them hydrated but not too wet as to prevent rotting. The ideas of watching the tips and cupping are great points of reference. Please do keep that really stressed plant as an experiment and let’s see if is recoverable. The other decision I have to make in the Winter sometimes is when the plant is too far gone. I’ve had very little luck when they seem to be too far gone. This winter though I am installing a grow tent for the Broms and the other Tropical, Orchids etc.. Thanks for making these Videos. Kevin

If winter watering inside becomes a challenge due to overwatering the pot, try using a courser substrate that will drain according to your watering schedule indoors. Appreciate your watching, hope you'll share more of your growing experiences in Minneapolis!

Another great video Rusty! Why do Aechmea blanchetiana brown tip a lot along with middle of the leaf damage. I have about 40 (all separated) of them so they grow real well here in SoCal. but they take on soooo much damage compared to all my other Bromeliads 😢. You should a video on them 😊

Thank you rusty for the video. Do you have a soil preference for broms being planted in the ground? Or it doesn’t matter ?

Bromeliads are very forgiving when it comes to being planted in the ground. If drainage is a problem planting them higher is usually more effective than amending the soil, otherwise there is little benefit. Thank you for watching!

I also wanted to say that I cut the dead leaves off of the plant- is there any benefit to leaving them on the plant?

As soon as a leaf starts to decline it has stopped getting and sharing resources, so it's fine to remove them.
