I’ve had a couple of things get damaged in the post (one seller wrapped some very fragile ornaments in a loose bit of kitchen towel 🤦🏼♀️). I wouldn’t dream of contacting the seller without photographing the damage to prove I was being genuine. That in itself throws up a massive red card 😳 but then they obviously aren’t the smartest scammers on the planet to pick Duplo as the damaged item 😂
Definitely dodgy ! Had a similar thing a few years ago when a customer claimed that 12 out of the 24 magnets they had ordered were broken.... we asked for photos. The lady got very irate and said she didn't know how to do that and she couldn't ' be bothered with the hassle' to return. Left a negative which was removed. 2 weeks later found she had mastered the art of uploading pics when she listed some items for sale !
I always block buyer and move on. These fraudulent buyers are just part of reality. As long as humans have been on earth, a percentage have displayed the worst part of themselves.
I understand that offering a partial refund can be a useful remedy in some cases, but I wish it wasn't the 'go-to' for many resellers. The more it is done, I believe the more buyers will try to get one. I would say that 80% of the buyers that I have (claiming they have an issue) I never hear from again, when presented with the option of returning the item for a refund.
I really wish ebay had a better way of dealing with scammers at the moment ebay actively helps them. All the scammer has to do is send you something back and ebay will be all over you threatening the selling with black marks etc forcing you to refund them. We all know how useless ebay's help desk is
Oh my! just watched all the suggested following vids...the headlight!!! Honestly could've just cried with frustration for you both!!...thanks for the information though, all very helpful 🙂
@@dottieland7061 it’s all good giving us “Fee free” selling, but if the buyer ends up having to pay the fees it will give them even more reason to say they didn’t receive the item in the post or to say it was an empty box.
Tracking 48 delivery screen shot & proof of postage screen shot to the buyer seems to have a magic way of making parcels suddenly appear 🤔 funny that …
@@paulwilson1555 No you don't have to have a signature if the tracking shows as delivered this is usually good enough for ebay and you sometimes also get a photo taken by the postman posting or handing over the parcel so in my experience signature wont make that much difference for a claim
@@KarlUKmidlands I used tracked and signed for anything over £50, but since the Royal mail dropped the insurance down to £20 for 1st class recorded, I was tempted to just use rm48 tracked with no signature for under £50 items, as it is quite a bit cheaper then royal mail 1st class recorded and it adds £150 insurance..
I send all items tracked as I used to get scammed but you do still get people trying it on saying they didn't get there items and eBay let's them open cases when it's clear that the item got there that annoys me
I sold some Star Wars action figures on card which I packed into the original box which went inside another box then finally into the shipping box and packed tightly with paper the buyer didn’t want to pay the £100 I was selling them for but eventually agreed so no surprise to me when he messaged to say the figures were crushed and could he have a partial refund I told him no there was no way those figures could be crushed he pestered me for weeks eventually he go the message and gave up.
I sell t shirts printed to order, get this all the time I use good quality branded shirts (Gildan) and get “Not happy with the quality want a refund” our stock answer is “ok return via eBay returns system” in most cases never hear another word, some do respond normally with I can’t get to a post box or post I office etc, I just revere to previous email happy to refund on return of the item I would say about 1 in 50 actually get retuned when you get this type of request!
We get similar odd messages like this one, here in the US too. Sometimes, as you say, they are non-english speakers, sometimes I think they are using translation software Our refund/return rules are different then yours, since we can list items as non returnable, then the buyer then opens what is called an Item Not As Described case, trying to override our listing policy and it goes through the US eBay process favoring the Buyer. What is hard for us, is proving it's a scam, since eBay wants us to just issue a return label and eat the cost oof shipping the item back to us for review. We have the option to refund and let the buyer keep the item, but I rarely do that. I want the item back to call their bluff. I look at all such claims and make a decision on a case by case basis, but the first thing I do in almost all cases is put them on my Blocked Bidder/Buyer list, so they can't buy from me again. And like this case, we sometimes never hear from the buyer again, once we say send it back for review. 😉
This is a common practice by chancers hoping a seller will refund. I handle them in exactly the same way, and I don't do partial refunds either unless I'm100% certain I made a mistake..
I was hearing about scams happening with cars travelling etc and then I read yours. I just think ,imagine going through life trying to make money by scamming people,it must be so exhausting. Hope they do disappear.
"I don't want to buy again" - the buyer expecting you sell multiple items of the same and one of the solution is the seller to offer replacement - which the buyer did not want you to do.
I absolutely hate having to message an eBay seller due to an issue It’s only my very last resort I don’t understand how people can try this on No shame
Happens to me all the time I say the same I don't do partial refunds so just return it and same outcome they tend to go away annoying that they even try it don't buy it if you don't want to pay the price it's sold for
Really annoying when you get these kind of scammers I bet this buyer also has a low feedback count, wish ebay would allow you to block sellers with less than say 50 positive feedbacks it would save a lot of hassle and help stop them, hope it goes in your favour Nic
All sounds very odd, ive had similar. Think i would point out they havent bought a set but a random selection and ask them to open a return if not happy, it usually ends there.
We sold a pair of quite expensive concert tickets. They paid online then asked if they could collect in person which they did. Seemed nice enough people. A few days later they started messaging saying the tickets hadn't arrived & did we have a tracking number? I replied saying we had them on CCTV at our doorstep clearly showing them collecting. Never heard from them again. Funny thing is we didn't even have CCTV. Lesson learnt.
These sort of messages from buyers aren't that uncommon. I just don't reply to them and most of the time you don't hear from them again. Had one last week, sold a brand new pair of work boots and apparently according to the buyer after wearing them for 5 minutes the soles fell off and they politely asked for a refund. I just ignored them and they didn't respond again. Funny that
I’ve had a couple of similar issues to this… and I suspect scammers, one I refunded and one I paid for the return… however, since then my eBay sales have totally plummeted….
Don’t think you will hear anything again. I have similar messages and like you they don’t open a return. Many who do open a return never send back. Sometimes they will try to open a return as some sellers have auto-refund set and when they realise that hasn’t triggered they just ignore the return process
Hi Nic - I would have done exactly the same as you have - certainly sounds like phishing, I get them sometimes too, thankfully rarely though. As a buyer I've occasionally had ebay purchases I have made arrive badly damaged, I take pics of the parcel and of the contents immediately and message the seller. I am always polite and friendly. I have had partial refunds and full refunds in the past, depending on the damage. Some haven't wanted me to return the item if badly damaged as an ebay return might mean their paying return shipping and they'd have to dispose of the item - me approaching them prior to opening a return case helps to avoid this. As a seller I would like the same response from my buyers with damaged items - I really would rather not pay for a damaged item return.
Is there an actual number for eBay customer services in the uk. The automated helper is absolute garbage. I’ve got a problem with an item I’m selling which somebody made an offer on, which I accepted so the item should come up as sold and waiting for payment. But the item is still active and I haven’t had the sold notification.
my scam radar would have gone in to overload on this one I get one every couple of months and as you know I am the same as you I do not offer partial refunds and tell them to return it
Once I bought some lego duplo Kg for my daughter on ebay and it was so old that when she was playing with it pieces started breaking very easily. I don't know if was real lego or Chinese one, but I think it was old stale duplo lego from 90s....
I reckon they thought they were purchasing normal lego and are trying to get their money back whilst keeping the product. Would they have to pay the return postage?
Nice to be honest as an ex ebay seller you actually need to be a detective when returns come in and eBay always back the buyer. My last ebay sale was a 30 pound computer game which was posted and tracked second class who aim to deliver in 3 working days anyways 5 working days pass and buyer who is actually a reseller sends item not received so o message buyer to hold out for more days to which I got no reply but in mean time ebay have froze my funds till said dept is paid but give option to refund buyer to which I did and then item arrives next day signed for by said buyer and I can't do nothing about as case is closed ps ebay will give you anxiety go vinted
I always ask for photos or they can send it back for a refund. They usually shut up after that. I had someone buy a dvd boxset off me, the discs were mint. It was an adult owned network series. Within 2 days they said one od the discs were skipping. I was like they're fishing for a discount. I said just return it for a full refund. They left me alone and then left neutral feedback.
I had a bizarre refund request as well today from someone I sold an item to through GSP in January they said they haven't received it and wanted a refund.
It almost sounds like they are talking about a completely different actual Lego set, maybe they are confused with who they bought it off. I have had people complain about things they didn’t even buy off me before 🤡. However even Lego does not break. All very dubious 🤨
I had someone open and close a returns case in almost the same minute then message me saying they wanted a refund, I stupidly gave one as a goodwill gesture,(worried about bad feedback) obviously never received my item back, has anyone else come across this?
Definitely looking for money back. I get these regularly. A question though for you Nik or anyone else here. Have you had any GSP issues recently? Items purchased through GSP, send to GSP hub, email confirmation of receipt at hub and dispatch but then the tracking breaks down. Item not delivered by Pitney Brown or whoever is delivering in Europe. Ebay holding payment until item delivered but not accepting any responsibility for delivery? This has happened several times in the last couple of months. Buyers not receiving their orders but ebay confirmed sending them, I can see from tracking that the orders haven't been delivered but ebay insisting that it is my responsibility and will not pay out or respond to opened cases for item not received. What is going on here?
Fishing for refund eBay needs to block this fraud don’t think you will hear from him/her again sad as people will think that clear out I had planed to much trouble now
I had this issue with an xbox series s a week ago with the buyer claiming the controller i sold and tested had major malfunctions. I told them to return it and would give a refund once i verified it was the same item i sent and had the same serial numbers but havent heard back for 3 days now
I sold a few Xbox items a few weeks ago ago got scammed With a game they returned a damaged one this scam here is similar to my scammer all please help etc then send be a return label !!! Sold my 2tb expansion as well they are expensive buyer had a Week a said it didn’t work you can win unfortunately 😢
i sold some baseball cards a set of like 24 the guy said 10 cards were not in good shape it will cost me 5 dollars a card to replace how do you want to correct this i said open a case and mail it back just make sure they are the ones i sent you i never heard from them again and then like 8 weeks later they left me positive feedback lol crazy
Scammer 100%. The bricks are ABS plastic, it is very hard to break (it can flex and be damaged if flexed too far) but it's extremely durable and that's why they use it for child toys knowing it will withstand lots of abuse.
Patient of a saint with the general public, frustration is the understatement on this scammer. eBay causes these type of scammers it’s to easy claiming some Lego duple has been damaged, Lego is incredibly tough item! Hide side next time count every item into the box when videoing for proof it’s getting ridiculous on eBay. Well done you never let it get you down when a scammer tries to pull the wool over your eyes🥸
Bit cynical everyone Are they new to ebay ? And may not understand The options The item may well of been damaged in posting And so some pieces did fall out of the squashed box They still deliver the item after they have damaged it is I would have been more understanding in my response With an Apology and could they please send me some pictures Still makes another video for clicks and cash
Glad we are not the ones that get these types of messages! Even after a lot of them open a returns case they never seem return the items. It's just annoying the money gets held for the time. Joys of eBay!
