Maybe a controversial topic. I would like to hear your thoughts on this.
Will the US government but an end to the import of Chinese vehicles?

The Ural/Dneiper motorcycles have a following in America. The Chinese tech laden bikes?. Take all the shite off them,wouldn't bother me at all. I've four bikes, a himalayan,a pre-unit Bullet,a 1996 GPZ305 and a 1978 GL1000,all bare bones bikes,I love bikes because they're bikes,not earthbound sattelites.

That's really interesting. I think it will be all vehicles including ebikes and mobility scooters as well as bikes and cars. The tech will be used for pay per mile here in the UK. What's happening in USA is an attempt to prevent unfriendly states accessing the information via their systems but the tech will be used by our government to track and charge movement. Petrol bikes will be taxed off the road along with petrol cars. The world is dividing into continental superstates with separate but similar tech systems. We must enjoy our bikes while we can.

I just heard on the television news that Europe is going to increase the import duties of electric cars from China by 30 or 35 percent simply because they can't compete, I haven't heard anything about motorcycles so far. China is not going to leave it at that and is definitely thinking of taking measures. This has nothing to do with safety measures but everything to do with price competition. By the way, years ago they did the same thing in the US with Japanese motorcycles especially to save Harley Davidson from bankruptcy.
@toqtoq3361
@toqtoq3361 15 часов назад
European car brands cannot compete on electric cars in particular because the Chinese manufacturers have been subsidized strongly by the Chinese government, so there is a different playing field for the competitors on the European market. The taxes are to set the game straight again, and yes: there is also a part 'domestic industry protection' in it. I think for good reason.
@wardje53
@wardje53 15 часов назад
@@toqtoq3361 Indeed it is true that the Chinese companies are financially supported by their government, but the attitude of Asian workers is completely different from that of the Western population, you know when those people start a task that they want to complete it as quickly as possible and are even prepared to do this for free without any wages or what we know as overtime but unpaid, not that I am in favor of that on the contrary but I do not see that happening here anytime soon and it is simply incomprehensible to us. And that is also a major factor in the game of competition.
@thebingleywheeler
@thebingleywheeler 18 часов назад
Interesting indeed Ian I’ve heard about these possibilities in the US and as you rightly observe here in the UK we have a nasty habit of doffing our caps to uncle Sam’s every whim. Personally I’m frequently approached to review Chinese electronic products and I turn down as many as I take on. The equipment falls into three categories (TFT Car Play/ Video/GPS systems, Comms devices (helmet communications) and oddly tyre inflators! Just about every other channel is reviewing this kit and it’s no surprise given that the kit itself is supplied free and that affiliate sales links generate typically an 8% commission for the RU-vid channel. The irony is that the Chinese made kit and the motorbikes themselves are good but are on aggregate half the price or less of the “mainstream” competition. As far as CF Moto is concerned they are in an established collaboration with KTM and BMW with Voge for engine manufacture thus a clear link with European bike manufacturers. I do think it entirely possible that the US moves on tariffs are largely economically driven yet presented as a security risk issue the better to suppress objection. If so it amounts to a denial of value for money opportunities to people on lower incomes in the interests of a protectionist approach to “established” interests
@harrychoke
@harrychoke 7 часов назад
End result is they screw you - the consumer. As you said, this is to protect their own industries as they cannot compete on either price and quality. Disgraceful conduct.
@richardyardley5127
@richardyardley5127 13 часов назад
I think it is a three prong issue with Chinese goods. Firstly the Americans and the West in general have long had tech fears regarding the possible invasive nature of Chinese tech products and computers. Chinese computer firms have been banned for some time in certain industries and the Americans fear what could be possible in the future through existing Chinese computer technology. Then there's the trade issue, which gives the Chinese a perceived unfair advantage with pricing due to their far cheaper materials and labour costs. Finally there's the political and ethics issues, which rather speak for themselves. Personally I wouldn't buy a Chinese bike because they are generally too tech driven to appeal to me and with so many new products turning over and companies springing up in China, I doubt very much the longer term security in parts supply for individual models. Royal Enfield keep their products simple and straight forward. They also have a very long term history of ongoing parts supply for models going back decades. I trust them far more than any 'fly by night' Chinese firm.

@juliancain6128
@juliancain6128 7 часов назад
A trade war could be a possibility, but , these places and tech items are a serious E-War security concern. As far as domestic US motorbike companies go, I would expect a crackdown in the future on where vehicle components are built and if they will be even allowed into the country.

The only thing on the bike my phone connects while riding is the headset via bluetooth, and that tends to be in case of emergency one day. For anything and everything else (camera, drone etc) I've always used my previous phone I've upgraded from simply to have the thing handy in the drone bag with all the other bits. And that holds no useful information to anyone because I'll have done a full reset when I stopped using it and also due to me being a deeply uninteresting person. When I ride it's for the enjoyment of the ride not to do admin fielding calls or online banking when I stop for a brew. Has the U.S Senate thought about Harley Davidson, they are now Chinese manufactured bikes.
@davidrawlings3460
@davidrawlings3460 19 часов назад
I think it's a trade war.. And a bit more simple than being discussed. The American car market has been in decline for years. If you look at the new electric car market it's fallen on its arse. No one wants one especially in America where fuel is cheap. And us British can't afford to buy one, are unsure about future electric cost to charge and the range is rubbish. BUT the Chinese cars are taking over. MG a Chinese car company is probably doing better than FORD VAUXHALL in EV sales, why... because they are cheaper and just as good as others. It's just the Americans waving there muscles about.

Fascinating story Ian, only thing I can't understand is what the point would be? Pretty much every computer and smartphone on the planet these days seems to be made in China anyway! It's trade and security buddy, for the trade they would have to open factories in Europe to get round the tariffs and for security they would have to sell part of their so called company to a euro company etc, But just get a bike with basics like an enfield or BSA or even a cheap basic bike that jsu does what it says on the tin!

Interesting info and ive read it elsewhere as well. If the market in the USA is big enough for the chinese manufacturers then they can alter what electronic systems are provided on the bikes to work around these bans. Hypothetically that is and if its worth the cost. Personally id be happy with none of these extra electronic systems.

TFT screen just on itself does not need connectivity with a phone or anything .. They just add it because heaving a tft makes it easy to do so but there are bikes with TFT without any sort of connectivity or gps capabilities. If we talking about preference I prefer simple LCD screen.. I get used to my speed in LCD screen numbers on my old Kymco scooter and analog clocks are not as nice for me but this is just my preference. A trade war this may be, but for the motorcycles part if it .. They don't have their own small bikes to be fended off. CF moto and Kove can replace the TFTs with simple LCDs and there you go, no gps, no connectively needed.
