🙄This video commits so many sins; 1. Neo shifters was a far off of a rip-off of bionicle if that 2. Says the sets look cooler than bionicle 3. Proceeds to follow up point 2. by showing a picture of a wave 1 Hero Factory Set
It was never a knock off because they had their own theme, I see knock offs as copy cats. Like lepin as an example. Mega bloks is amazing,I used to collect and I still have a handful of the sets.
@@SlashCraftJack knex is so nostalgic, I personally loved it more than legos, I remember building a ferris wheel and a crane without instructions it was so fun
I remember these being advertise back when I was a kid. I always thought these were cool and had two of them. I would make a small crossover with these guys and Bionicle.
Yooooo this was one of the best mega blocks sets, all the heads lit up and has a tiny little robot in its chest which can transform into a ball just like the big one, wasnt too brittle held up for a couple rough years
I had some neo shifters, very cool but unfortunately they were kinda brittle, joints would wear out and either be loose or break and since they were so unique it meant that you couldn't easily replace the parts. Still loved them though, tried so hard to play the online game even though my internet was garbage. Mega bloks should have pumped way more lore and marketing into the series because it was different from bionicle enough that I dont think it would have been seen as direct copying or competition
These were more than “knock off” bionicles. Mega blocks surely did not have a well stablished building system and quality lacked sometimes, but it offered an unique take on some topics.
As somebody who owned both Neoshifters and Boncle, I would just like to say, the only thing stopping Neo Shifters from winning is the material used for the Neo Shifters. I personally never had issues with it but have heard from others it just wasn't great and would sometimes break, but honestly, I think they weren't much worse, however the play sets themselves promote a more violent approach to play. Bionicle is like "big bad Mata Nui smash!" Where as I've seen Neo Shifter users "yeet" their ball across the room
I had one of these as a kid. It was awesome! ..for 10 minutes. These things are NOT made to last, and ABSOLUTELY not meant to be taken apart. They aren't constraction figures, they're action figures that come unassembled.
I owned 3 of those sets. The features u spoke of: turning into a ball and laser eyes. Every set had that feature and not much else. Boncle definetly was superior in every way
Early 2000s Megablocks, despite their poor brick quality, were cool af. They really gave it everything they had to compete with Lego and it resulted in lots of cool themes and builds. Neoshifters were awesome because they took the big build concept from Bionicle and combined it with these little Bakugan-like minifigs. They had their own lore, web comics, and games. Then 2010s Megablocks raised the piece quality a lot so that bricks didn’t pop off of each other as bad, and took the figures to a whole new level with the Halo and CoD themes. IMO the downfall of the brand was when they stopped grime-washing the figures. The newer armor system was awesome but nearly all the figs being plain plastic without all that dark grit making the details pop kinda ruined the aesthetic.
Oh hey. I actually have one of these somewhere. I saw it in a thrift store somewhere for like, 6 bucks. Thought it looked neat. My biggest critique with them is that the parts shred your hands when you try to put them together.
I once saw a picture of a knockoff Lego set that was themed around the Avengers. It was Thanos in a car that looked like the Infinity Gauntlet. It was just as goofy and just as awesome as it sounds.
OML neo shifters were rad af. love this big mech that roll into a ball. that was piloted by an other mini mech that roll into a ball into its core. these were rad
Neo Shifters were actually so cool. I used to have a load, never had any issues with them. There was one in particular where its chest was a small game system. They all curled up into balls and could launch the little dudes (who also turn into balls)
Had a ton of these growing up they were so fun! Definitely not brittle. The big chest holes fit a smaller "Pilot" Robot inside that you would also roll into a ball. great toy for sure
I had a green one I bought in Spain. It survived way longer than my bionicals so idk if I'd say the pieces are brittle..hell I used to read to the light in the green ones head.
I had a babysitter who had one of these 10 years ago and I've never seen anything about them since. Thanks for throwing this out there, time to go find one
As a matter of fact turning into a ball was the main gimmick of all NeoShifters, as well as a smaller transforming robot in the chest. Like Bionicle with their masks.
Neo shifters also had a pretty fleshed out browser game that encouraged you to buy more sets by giving you the premium membership for a while when you did.
I had the yellow and blue Neo Shifter. My experience was that the pieces broke waaaaaaay too easily even when you were being careful with them. They would've be pretty cool if the quality of the parts was comparable to Lego, but unfortunately they weren't.
There is actually one LEGO knockoff I think is cool. Spin Master put out a line of Lego looking blocks that could shapeshift into Minifigures. They were called Tenkai Knights.
i bought one of these guys at a garage sale, it had the light head design and four spike arms. it was really cool until my nephew fucking suplexed that shit into the corner of a table
I had both Bionicals and Neo Shifters growing up. I honestly had more fun with the Neo Shifters and they weren’t fragile or brittle. Plus they had some really cool designs
I had a couple neo shifters when they first came out, the joints wear down within like a month of good play, not even a comparison to bionicles, i still have my old ones and all the joints and pieces are still tightly fit
Neo Shifter was gone FAST back in the day, I remember it popped up in box box stores for a month, then every single wave was available exclusively at discount stores like TJ Maxx. I was given a few by family thinking they were bionicle and honestly, they were pretty fun. Plastic is good, just not lego good. Bionicle/technic parts will fit, but either too tight or too loose. Still a really cool system with hood designs.
I used to have a few Neo Shifters as a kid. They were fun, but unfortunately some of them broke at the shoulders, and the others were loose. I thing my brother and I only had one that didn't break.
I had a Neo Shifter that I got for Christmas! I absolutely loved it and the design was so cool, but sadly it is true: so many pieces have vanished or broken in two. I wish I could find more
Neo Shifters were pretty trash even at release. I bought up the first wave of the main figures, and here's my experience: Red-okay. Got confused because pieces were asymmetrical. Yellow-too loose! Orange/white-loose/unremarkable. Green-They didn't include the stretchy band that makes the ball gimmick work! The smaller sets like the grey hovercraft and the ice-spider pod were pretty good tho.
Blok Bots had some really cool designs and decent utility and playability. The problem is quality. Even with Lego and Mega Bloks, as they're trying new things the durability of bricks is all over the place.
I had a few Neo Shifters as a kid, even as a die hard BIONICLE fan. They were cool, even their lore was cool. But I take quality over quantity here. Sure they had a lot more detail in pieces compared to Lego’s, but there was so much more you could do with a single BIONICLE limb piece compared to a Neo Shifters one. Cooler is subjective, but I think telling by the number of people that got BIONICLEs compared to Neo Shifters will show you which one was objectively seen as better.
I had one of these as a kid it was the coolest thing ever it was so cool that it transformed into a little compact ball and it came with a little figure that transformed too
I had like 2 of these. They were okay but I more so remember the game you could play online where you made your own and searched through a junkyard for parts to upgrade your mech
