Drake's second verse gets better the longer you listen to it. I was kinda feeling meh as well but after few listens you see he was going for 2 beats off to start with and gets back on at the end. He probably wanted to stood out in that sense to try to 1 up. Just my opinion

That's the problem. If he knew he wanted to do that then he should have tried to have the beat adjusted a little so you don't have to consciously mentally tune in to exactly what he's on beat with. No one actually cares because it's some high level technique; they're only going so hard to defend it because it's Drake.
