I have the original DX5 radio. I had problems with the touch panel. I did buy it from a local hobby shop called" Krazy Kevins". I am so glad that I did that. The owner of the hobby shop, checked out my radio and found out the touch screen was defective. He offered to send it back to get it repaired. The repair did take longer because of COVID-19, but I did get it back. My radio does work good now. I guess this just goes to show you to support your local hobby shop. You will get better support when something goes wrong. Think about it.
I got this radio about a week ago now. So far I am really happy with it. I will admit it did take some time to get used to the touch controls. And I am very happy with the green

Great vid. Crazy that I just got my rugged today for my SCX10 iii RTR. So far so good. Dig set up was a bit of a pain. Going to do the two speed this week. You should do a vid showing how you set up the dig and would set up a two speed.
New touch panel look good. I have the dx5c and the wheel drives me nuts sometimes. Especially when making adjustments on the fly, although the tuneablity and price point cant be beaten for quality.
Geez! I wish I would have known that they were going to change all the touchpads going forward. I just purchased a Dx5 rugged last week. Feeling like I got jipped.
Have 6 RC at home and 3 controllers. We are 3 in family having fun together and own 2 Spektrum DX5C same as Rugged just no rug. Love those take time to setup but get use to it. Way more versatility than a regular RTR. Grab wrong DX5C for a run oops no problems at all. Add new vehicle, created a binding wire oops was at home. Could RC no problems and daughter setting stay in her remote control ready to be switch back for her Losi. But need get use to it. Great video love this unique green maybe will add 1 more Spektrum radio and replace the RTR of my son hum 🤔 lol yep he is going to get DX5C so I will use the Rugged Green 😝

I got the DX5 Rugged when it first came out and awhile setting it up I accidentally turned the contrast all the way down. Making it impossible to see what was on the screen. This was a result of the touchpad not doing what I wanted and sometimes having a mind of its own bouncing through menus or scrolling when I just wanted to press "OK". I called Horizon and they had to tell me the "sequence" of getting back to the contrast menu from boot up. I wrote down the sequence and made probably 100+ attempts before I got it... my only feedback being a repetitive beep.
I have been using the Spektrum telemetry since it first came out but before that tried a few standalone systems really useful for my gas tuning of engine and clutch's, I still use the DX4R but also use the Dx6R also but must admit to still using the stock Traxxas system and Blue tooth on my phone pretty good but not as good as the Spektrum but I do find it near impossible to get stand alone telemetry sensors and the bus receivers here in the UK, even looking overseas is not that esy
7:29 "Nice and smooth, i love this buggy!" Does a small jump "SLAAAAPP!!!" sounds like it has no oil Tamiya Grasshopper shocks from 1989 HaHa! Everytime that thing jumped it made me cringe with the "SNAP" "SLAP" sound it made when it landed! Yikes! Nice radio though LoL!
i have the dxe transmitter it has really put me off spektrum its meant to be programmeable its not i do have the cable for it but it cant be programmed i have it for 2 gliders it does the job but its put me off the products i have the flysky noble nb4 its really good i like it alot i would have got the rugged but saw the problems with the touch screen buttons just put me off again
Me personally I think it's absolute JUNK!!! All because of the touch screen!!!! I bought mine in 2023. Just glad I didn't spend the money for the PRO version.
I'm amazed that this is considered a new thing. I came back into RC via FPV drone racing and this is pretty standard in that environment. I'd love to see RC cars stop using such backwards electronics.
Hey Greg... is there a radio out there that will work with the traxxas telemetry? I have the gps, temp and voltage in my rustler 4×4 vxl and have been looking for a new radio so I can get more distance... any suggestions.. thank you.. and please keep up the good vids you give alot of info that really helps...

Cool transmitter, I'm thinking about getting a Spektrum transmitter for my basher\speedrun\crawling vehicles my battling myself trying to decide between the DX5 Rugged or the DX5 Pro 2021 version. I have been also considering a cheaper radio the Radiolink RC8X since it has cheaper receivers and i love the look of it. Please can someone help me make my mind up for the new Radio.

Unfortunately I don’t have a trick other than checking the manual for current Smart equipped cars. It’s been a long time since I had to calculate roll out in a car and don’t remember the process. 😞
I had the rugged when it first came out and gosh that irritated me lol glad to see they updated it. I’m waiting on parts to come in for my tf2 kit, fun project to do with the kids. Quick question, at 16:05 , what buggy is that that’s above the jeep?
Did they fix the distance issue and the lag time? I have the controllers for airplanes. Love how they work and they work great. But your transmitters for the cars and boats have not heard anything good about them.
Hi there.. I have this controller as I have a few cars ,can I ask when I put it in reverse it's really sensitive and it feels like it's to fast in reverse even faster than going forward. Basically it's to fast in reverse.. please have you any advice...??..I've looked at rates and exponential... thanks for your time Dave...
Another great review. By no means a deal-breaker -- I wouldn't trade my DX5C for anything -- but do you sometimes wish the trim buttons were located elsewhere? When crawling in the woods I often catch the sound of accidentally adjusting the steering or throttle trim, and I'm forever starting the timer by accident. The on-off switch needs love too. My unit liked to power up in my tote and beep beep beep while I was driving (down a four-lane highway typically) until I glued a little foam donut around the button. How about a setting that allows you to disable all external buttons by default? That would work.
I found the on/off button on this version better than the first version. Gen 1 you had to hold it for 3-4 seconds to shut it off. This is like a second. But I hear you on the other stuff. Thanks for sharing.
Thinking about a spectrum radio but I'm curious about the receiver voltage is there one that will take over 8v cause with these new esc and servos that give and take more power my flysky gt5 receiver is a 6v max
I’m looking to get one of these. I am pretty new to the hobby. I have a Traxxas TRX 4 and some Ansmann and a WlToys vehicles. Will this work with them or do I need to get a specific receiver to work with it? Will I be able to bind to practically any vehicle without changing anything? Thanks. Basically, do I need to get a new receiver for every vehicle I own?
If they aren't going to make the screen actually touch screen they should have stuck with hardware buttons for navigation. Total POS for navigation. ( just got one I cannot stand the menu navigation )
Can you send me every electronic part for my ruckus 4x4 1/10 i was trying to drive it and the it caught fire and melted all the electronics it shocked everything I’m just happy that it didn’t melt the actual body which is really surprising I can send you pictures if you want please. It’s my only car and I can’t afford a new one
@@rcdriver I had Spektrum DX6i and other radio Spektrum in the past and honestly signal distanced sucks on them. Changed to Etronix for my RC cars and made a massive difference years ago. There are decent radios out there with great range and for better pricing, Spektrum needs to bring there prices down otherwise I'm not spending substantial amount on Speky TX. Great video though 👌
@@the_rc_addict7209 & $60+ on a 5 channel reciever is ridiculous! My futaba rx were $49 each & I thought that was nutz! & yes sir u r 100% right! Everyone's got an opinion. I been n this crap since 1979. Tx prices/brands/names have changed. JR was a great brand b4 spektrum. Give $150-$200 for a tx only, then $60/each for a rx. When u r running 10 models, (not at once! LOL!), that gets expensive fast! I was a die hard futaba for ever. Until crawlers & I needed 5+ channels. 7pxR is $800 with 1 rx? Uh no.
