"Buenos Aires is the capital of an empire that never existed." A beautiful and presumptuous phrase that is attributed to both André Malraux and George Clemenceau and Ortega y Gasset. Buenos Aires looks beautiful, beautiful and valuable like old silver. From time to time she is touched by the adversity of an economic crisis, but she remains haughty, insolent, rebellious, unattainable. "The City of Fury" is simply spectacular.
Isnt it simply spectacular ? I'm a PORTEÑA, and i just couldnt think my life out of this place, it's such a nice city, a big one with everything you need, specially full of argentinians, but also full of immigrants as always. Most of us descend from someone that came in some kind of ship for some reason, and we still are very welcoming everryone as they welcomed our ancestors before. I love my city... it's just... SPECTACULAR
Buenos Aires is surely the most cosmopolitan city in all of Latin America, with its wide avenues and Renaissance and eclectic buildings and its unique language, its art and people make it among the 20 most important cities in the world. I will be back soon!
You were saying such beautiful things about it I was sure you were gonna end it by saying you are Argentinian, it's kinda of our bit we do here on RU-vid.
For your peace of mind, Buenos Aires also has one of the highest number of theaters in the world. And the Grand Splendid theather was converted to a cinema before it became the El Ateneo - Grand Splendid bookstore. The Teatro Colon is from 1908. In 1857 was built the former Teatro Colón which was located where is now the Banco Nación buildin, in Plaza de Mayo. May be you have been confused by the two different terms used in Spanish: Feria de San Telmo and Mercado San Telmo. Both may be translated to market, but "feria" is usually made of stalls in the open, while "mercado" is a building housing different shops. The Mercado de San Telmo is the building and it's open every day. The Feria de San Telmo is only active on weekends or only Sundays.
Thank You, Claire for another informative video. If you are going to be playing live anywhere in Buenos Aires in the next month we would be interested in attending...Cheers
Hi Claire, I love your music, you are beautiful!! I hope you have a great time here in Argentina. I suggest you to visit las Cataratas del Iguazú (Iguazú falls), Ushuaia, and Perito Moreno glacier.
We have a Chinatown in Belgrano and two mini Korea towns in Flores. If You only have a weekend your selection of must-see is great for first time visitors. My favorite old timey bar/tea parlour is Las Violetas, the deco Will blow your socks off. The Bosques de Palermo parks are huge and full of surprise cornes. The Reserva Ecológica is a slice of Nature right near downtown and Puerto Madero. Lots to discover
It's great to have you here! Here are a few recommendations of places to visit and (most importantly) places to eat: Café "Le Caravelle", capuccinos are their specialty (Lavalle st. 726, San Nicolás) Galerías Pacífico, iconic shopping mall of the city centre (Córdoba Av. 550, San Nicolás) Petit Colón, one of the "Bares Notables", a block away from Teatro Colón (Libertad st. 505, San Nicolás) Café de los Angelitos, another one of the "Bares Notables" (Rivadavia Av. & Rincón St., Balvanera) Puente de la Mujer, sightseeing in Puerto Madero Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur, a nature reserve (Tristán Achával Rodríguez Av. 1550, Puerto Madero) Lago de Regatas, a picture-perfect walk in the park (Alcorta Av. & Int. Bunge st., Palermo) Puente peatonal Dr. Alfredo Roque Vítolo (Alcorta Av. & Pueyrredón Av., Recoleta)
You sing beautifully and your videos give great insights too. May I make a suggestion to mention the cost of the cafe food in Arg peso. I am planning on visiting BA in the not too distant future
Thank you so much! Prices truly change day to day because of the rate of inflation here, so it's hard to give an accurate number, but it's very affordable here!
Hi Claire . Great video. Really enjoyed the Teatro Colon 'insert or Colon Opera House'. My father in law Eduardo Sarramida was the house Opera tenor for many decades there and I ll be back in BA myself woth his son Martin in December from Ireland lets catchup. Also loving your background tracks. Emma (Martin Sarramida s wife)
Welcome to Argentina Claire, you have experienced the best places, but I also recommend that if you like pizzas go to Guerrin, Cafe Tortoni, the Malba museum, the Japanese garden and Puerto Madero. Enjoy it .-
Hey Claire, cada video se pone mejor! 😀 Y me sorprendió también tu música, felicitaciones! Para empezar, ya me suscribí a este canal! Saludos desde Buenos Aires!
hiya, Claire...from a musician to another, you should come and check the south of the country...the music scene here is CR-azy!! you´ll love it, trust me...and the sights are breathtaking
you have to try argentinian handcrafted ice-cream: 2 personal favorites, Cadore in microcentro is a very famous classic one (dulce de leche and pistachio are a must there!) and Obrador Florida in Palermo, if you are looking for more gourmet and unique flavors, greetings!
Fool of me recommending you San Telmo when you've already done this beautiful video, Claire. If you're still at BA and want to see theater performances, well, there are many comercial theatres, but I recommend Teatro San Martín and Centro Cultural San Martín, at 1550 Av Corrientes, in plain city centre.
I just found your videos and I love watching them. I want to bring my family to Buenos Aires so that they can experience the city that I was born in. Do you feel safe walking around as a "tourist"? Especially going to dinner at night? Thanks. Keep up the great work.
