In this video, Greg shares the last of the long logs. We only have three left - it's crazy to think how many logs we have milled. And, that there will be a break in milling timbers until we can get more logs delivered. We do have board and batten siding that still needs to be milled, but that doesn't help us with getting dried in. Spring is just around the corner and hopefully, roads will dry up soon and we can get the logs we need to finish the bents delivered!
Did you know we are building a barn out of wood that we are milling on our own sawmill?! If you haven't followed along with our BARN Build, make sure to check out that series in our playlists. We finished the slab this summer and are on a pause while we mill all of the lumber needed for the barn build. We have A LOT of milling in our future.
Here is the video where we share our barn plans. Our plans are from ‪@BarnGeek‬ We are excited to build one of his beautiful barns!
• Why Do We Think WE CAN...
***We are also so excited to have completed our sawmill cover enclosure (sawmill shed). Definitely check out our Sawmill Playlist to watch it all happen. We have shared the process of building our sawmill cover from the very beginning. We have a Woodland Mills HM130 Max sawmill and we live in North Idaho. The sawmill cover / sawmill shed is vital to continue milling for our barn build in the winter months, but it will also be a great way to keep out of the sun during the summer months, and of course all of the rain, in between!
Here is a link to the video that shares the sawmill cover / sawmill shed build from start to finish:
• Sawmill Cover Build - ...
Here are the specs on the sawmill cover / sawmill shed we built:
3 posts in the front
4 posts in the back
Overall dimensions are 15 feet wide by 36 feet long
Longest beam is 28 feet
Front part of the lean to roof is 11'9" and back is 8'
It will have a 3 :12 pitch
Posts and beams are going to be 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
We have shared the entire build!

I wish I was 30 years younger I would love to be doing what you are doing building a legacy homestead. I imagine you take great pride in what you are building. Great job!

Thank you, Adam! Ripper’s are preforming well so far. Except for hitting a rock and a log stop - can’t expect them to keep sharp after that. 😁

Love your shed, but, looks to me you need a simple log ramp. I watched your video with that huge log. I have small chainsaw setup, level ramp, easy peasy.

Hi,Richard- I have a set of movable log bunks but haven’t used them much recently. Now my approach is all messed up to use them. It was very handy when I was using them! 😁

Hi, we put a lot of effort in how to organize this milling project. So far it has been worth the effort. Remote Canada sounds great to us! I’m spoiled being close to town and now having power! Thanks so much for watching! 😊

Howdy y’all- I really enjoyed watching you saw. It’s amazing how much timber you have sawed into really nice beams. I would really enjoy working out timbers like that into a timber frame. Hope Eric gets to feeling better soon. Take care and have a great weekend. God bless

Hi, Paul, you’re always welcome to come on out when we get to the timber framing. Your expertise would be a dream compared to our novice do it yourself’ers. Seriously 😁

Any issues with the beams twisting while they dry ?
@ourdreaminthewoods
@ourdreaminthewoods 6 месяцев назад
As far as the Timbers twisting - A little early to tell. I haven’t seen anything in the stacks yet. Some of those Timbers were loaded and sprung when we cut them (especially the bowed logs). So it will be interesting to see how they weather and dry. We are going to build with them even if they have a slight twist or bow. Might have to cull a few?? Thanks for watching! 😄
