TR Hamza awesome review bro. You should’ve drove my one instead of this. My friend @techvader mentioned yesterday that you need to drive mine as you haven’t done a 300 yet and then you lost this today. Lol. Would definitely have had more fun in mine with its stage1 map and res delete.
@@Cupra-ip6kw Wanted to drive a stock one first bro to compare to the stock Ed40 I drove last month, can always do the tuned after! Drop me a message on Instagram 👍🏼
TR Hamza yeh I get you bro. Best to compare stock V stock. I have messaged you on Instagram. Have a look at my RU-vid page for some short clips on how it sounds.
Nice review mate. I watched your old 290 review and thought you did a decent job. Big difference in you going from your S3 to a Cupra and now going from a M2 to Cupra. You seem to appreciate the driver skill/involvement more as opposed to the point and shoot of the S3 and R. I wanted and S3 but have one of the new 290's due in the next couple of weeks. The DSG has been muted but the engine note is now deeper. I'll be interested in your review of one of those.
Owned a Golf R for 2 years and then a Cupra 290 for 2 years. Cupra is more exciting to drive, more responsive and accelerates (once rolling) quicker- probably due to lighter weight and not 4wd. Exhaust sounds bettter too! Only issue is traction from stand still when wet or damp or if road is uneven. I haven’t really missed or needed the 4wd.
Robinho's Left Foot well you see I am 16 so never have driven the cupra ( it’s my dads) but it it is as smooth as the zf8 in his last car ( Alfa Giulia ) according to my dad and if I am honest the Giulia felt far more jerky than the cupra! So I think the DSG seems to be both faster changing gears and a smooth drive. It is the DSG 7 now being used in the cupra 290 (facelift) as opposed to the DSG 6 in the Cupra 300. So far the gearbox seems great and we have only done 1500 miles :)
I love your video titles, they're not clickbait, they're fair. Every car you drive and review, the title always intrigues you to watch and pay attention to the video. It doesn't write the car off, you're giving the car you're reviewing a good deed. Instead of implying it's not in certain cars leagues, you keep it real and simple, respect for that. (This goes for all of you video titles too)
Great vid. I've had mine for 6 months now in same colour (mystery blue) and I wouldn't swap it for anything. Your though you have to drive it, it's so engaging and really gets my adrenalin flowing. I'm 52 but when I'm driving my Cupra I feel 32.
Gotcha'.. I've had mine 11 months.. in Mystery blue too... with 6 speed D.S.G.. goes like stink .. but can wreck the wheel finish if you touch a curb edge... have to be real careful.... Btw.. I'm 72... and feel 42 when driving.... I get young uns' passing me for the sake of it.. cos' they know what the car can do.
Genuinely think the cupra is the much better buy over the s3 or golf. Better looking, cheaper, more engaging to drive and faster. No brainer for me 🤷♂️
Great video! Myself like many Cupra owners have put Michelin PS4S tyres on and a Powerflex lower engine mount inset in. Wheel hop has completely gone. Grips the road so much better and hardly breaks traction.
Thanks! Yeah 4S tyres are amazing, would definitely put them on if it was my car. Did read about the Powerflex engine mount insert, glad to hear it helped as the hop is quite violent on the standard car
Great review, and greetings from Worcestershire, have pretty much the same spec Cupra 300 with sun roof and 6 speed DSG, bought mine with 3K miles 6 months old from a dealer demo car and paid £26K, noticed this one still had key ignition mine is push button only, but great you confirm what I am enjoying, best fun ever down a small back road..
Your reviews are just getting better & better Hamza! Your collab with Ricky was a ton of fun & one with Joe Achilles would be a blast to watch . Brilliant stuff & much love from Lebanon amigo!
Have one too and thinking about modifieing the turbo inlet to get more boost sound. Also would like to delete the resonators and maybe get the bigger exhaust Tipps sometime in the future
DxCBuG trust me go for it. I’ve had my 290 just over a month now was loving it until monday. I put on a R600 intake turbo technics pipe, Raceline turbo muffler delete & a gfb DV+. One word WOW. The car is a flippin MISSILE & it already is stock
Izhaar Jamil i haven’t filled all the way up yet but so far it’s fine. Doesn’t drink how i thought it would and that’s coming from someone with a heavy foot. Had 5 miles (RED) in topped up £20 4bars (70miles)yesterday, hammered it around town yesterday and today i now have (50miles) 3bars and when driving in comfort the miles go back up so far so good
A good and impartial review Tr, not like some of the other reviewer's, even though the seat is supposedly the cheaper looking of the VAG cars you haven't knocked it. It was good that you stated that all the VAG cars have there own individual merits.
Thank you! Yeah I just love covering cars in this segment, each has their own strengths and cons. As a consumer there’s bound to be one car that ticks the right boxes depending on requirements 👌🏼
Love the vid as usual TR. If you put a Cupra on a dyno, even the older 280 they all put out 305-320hp as standard. The engine is same across the VW range. It's just badging so not to step on their 'premium' brothers!
My brothers got the 7.5 R and I’ve got a 20 plate cupra 290 and on a roll the cupra wins every time, only on a launch does the R beat the cupra. Great review m8 🤙
How can anyone hit the dislike button? ... love the car.. it comes together perfectly with all the edges and straight lines...but im too much of a badge hyper and would rather have a VW.... keep the up with the great content👌💥
My parents have a Cupra 300 ST 4Drive. Absolutely rapid off the line etc etc but just wish it made a bit more noise. Wayyy quieter then the hatchback. Well worth a review of one if/when you have time however. Love the looks of the Cupra compared to S3 and Golf R, and less likely to be stolen by a scumbag with a laptop imo, especially in estate form. Class video mate. From Birmingham myself ^^
Spot on review, had mine a year now and not got round to filming with it much yet besides when I tested a res delete. But I absolutely love it and I'm struggling to figure out what comes next!
@Black Jack mate have yo ever sat in any cupra car? I'm collecting my 3rd cupra car and I take Leon interior over golf any day of the week. Also you can get them in Mexico as far as I know. I don't know if you can import it over to the US or not
I've had the 290 good car. You just find that seat have the last gen lower spec parts. For example the sub frame is steel on the seats and they are known to snap, where the vw and audi have aluminium. Little things
Those wheels are epic... they're a prettier version of the option R 'Prets'. Very nice! I've always said, if you can have a VW drive (handling, power, and noise), with an Audi interior and Seat exterior you will have the perfect hot hatch, however seeing the interior there, I love those lines! Incorporating some of the higher quality touches to that style interior would make a really nice interior. I like those side bars for the fuel and oil temp. The red highlights inside make it feel a bit more pleasing for our inner five year old self too. Seems slightly quieter in revving than the R and S3, but still a lovely noise, that shift noise is naughty! I love the Cupra for what it is, but it suffers from the petrol head spirit (presence over performance). Yes, it's fun to drive but the numbers don't stack against an R or S3, so the only selling point is the better look and occasional giggle. Yes the price is much friendlier, but it is held back far too much by VAG. When the Cupra range officially splits from Seat I'm sure it'll come into it's own and become a proper contender with the bigger brothers in the group. Hearing you slamming the rev limiter in first made me wince mate! Launching in my 7.5R I've hit the limiter a few times, and I can tell ya it really slows it down. If you can find the sweet spot the acceleration is insane. I love the Cupra, I really do! I just cannot wait for VAG to bring them up to speed with the R and S3. Who knows, maybe we'll see an RS3 equivalent when VW release the R400/R420 eventually? ;)
If I wasn’t such a badge snob, I would’ve had a cupra at the time when I owned an S3. I know how capable it is but you always want that premium feel when you spend that sort of money. I hate how vag cars limit the power in these cars to make one better than the other and so they can improve it on the next one without doing much work 🙄 it ruins the experience knowing your car can do so much more!
the helper of the peopledems I’ve got a Cupra and you notice the difference in the interior compared to an S3. There is nothing wrong with the Cupra, it’s well put together but the Audi’s are a nicer place to sit
You know the S3 in a different price bracket to the Cupra, right? You get a LOT of car for the money with a Cupra... and not much more car with an S3 despite paying 40% more.
Think this is the first video I've seen of yours buddy but top work... subscribed now! My old man has a 290 pre facelift but as a manual... so much more fun in my eyes and you can still make them bang if you know what you're doing haha. Such a quick bit of kit. They've stopped doing300's now due to emissions... similar aged Golf R/S3's are producing less power if rumours are true... 290's do have a sportier exhaust over the previous 280... I'm not sure if the 300 exhaust is different but sounds pretty similar to ours. Shame the pre facelifts weren't available in that Mystic Blue - it is a lovely colour!
Can’t pick whether too get a cupra 300 next or Golf r. The only thing that makes me want too get the R is the 4WD. Only if the cupra was 4WD (don’t want the estate lol)
You're really coming along with your videos mate, you go into real detail and for me I watch vids to make me feel what the car would be like in real life and you nail that. Only thing I'd say, and I might be wrong here as nobody else had mentioned this, but try and get your video lengths down to 10 minutes ish? As a floater I get bored after that length especially if you repeat yourself too much
Had my 69 plate Cupra 290 for 6 weeks now absolutely love it, had 53 miles on it when I picked it up, got it for £20750 which I think is a bargain, going to stage 1 it after lock down, and put more miles on it , Revo or APR ?.....
Have my Cupra 300 ST 4Drive now for almost a year and its just awesome. Even got it with the big Brembo brakes and they saved my ass a few times on the german autobahn from some idiots.
Been wanting to see this for a while, I got one this year but it struggles to put power down, chassis is old, not the best diff either, tyres could be better, heard so many things about MPS4S dunno if they'd make a difference? What do you make of yours ?
Holtii14 sorry for late reply life haha... yea I’m really enjoying it I was so close to the golf R but wanted to be a bit different. Fwd I feel is a bit of pain especially in the wet I don’t struggle to put the power down it’s goes 👍
@@kenskingley4713 I recently got the rocco - just a 1.4 but love the looks too much to pass up the opportunity. Considering an upgrade to the R or GTS if i can find it
Not into hatches, but as looks go in the VAG stable, IMO the Leon is better looking than the R and S3. However, I think the 7.5R is better looking inside with the Discovery system. Me, I've got a 7.5R Estate - Audi didn't make a S3 Estate and I didn't like the look of the Leon Cupra Estate (although the MY19 one looks OK).
I just traded my 2018 m240 for a 2015 cupra 290. I made 9k on the sale and put it towards my mortgage. Loved the bmw but not really missing it. The cupra does the basics very well, front end feels great engine and brakes are strong, manual gearbox is direct. The touch screen and some plastic bits are a downgrade but the fundamentals of the car are strong. I'm liking it.
@@Michael-lj3lm it's a good car for the money. steering suspension brakes and engine all good. i do miss the beamer now but i did get same money back to our towards the mortgage. it does burn oil though. first car over ever had two top up between service.
Leon cupra is only behind on power in this generation. The mk1 Leon cupra r made 210bhp then went to 225bhp just like the s3 did. Same power as s3 but was priced like a mk4 golf gti which had 150 then 180bhp. The mk2 Leon cupra r had 265bhp same as the golf r mk6 and my s3 of it’s time. Even the normal cupra that was priced like the gti made 240bhp so it’s not had any disadvantages before this generation
Great review and he's very easy to listen to. Just one thing though, and this isnt meant to be a negative towards the reviewer...if you pull a woman in a bar, and she sees you've turned up in a seat, would it scupper your chances compared to if you'd turned up in say, an Audi S5? This seat sounds like it's a great car, but does it loosen panties like Audi, Merc, BM or Porsche? That's the question.
I've driven the Golf and think it's too 'relaxed' at times. Sure it can shift when you push it but it always falls back to being too relaxed. I dunno but the Golf seats were a bit rubbish too - I thought them to be too comfy! I have a Cupra and love it. My only grumble is it's a little fragile. Paint seems too soft and easily damaged and for two weeks of the year when it snows the Cupra won't go out. Underpanels are ripped off by snow and mine has no snow button like the Golf has. The colour of your car is 'Mystery Blue' which became an option in 2017 with the MK3.
I always thought the standard brakes on the Cupra was a bit numb and not very strong at braking. It was the same with my Seat Leon FR 184 so I uprated my Cupra to the Clubsport S drilled discs with Ferodo DS2500 pads and they are alot lot better!
I dont understand what is wltp... I saw the cupra 300 is downgraded to 290... I want to buy an used cupra 300 from germany but Im confused... Can i buy it or not due to wltp...??
Of course it’s more fun, it takes more skill to drive fast💥 this is coming from someone with a 425 bhp golf R to😂 Nothing beats RWD for fun though, pure chaos
These vag group EA888 cars are very capable cars but i have a 280 2015 with only 29000 miles. I went down to see Nicky at R Tech for a stage 1 and they found play in the turbo and advised me not to get it remapped until i sorted out the turbo issues. They said it effects 1 in 20 of these cars! Anyone guide me in the right direction to get this turbo shaft play sorted without breaking the bank!
looking for help on this looking at the cupra 300 only thing putting me off is the 6 speed when the golf gti is 7 speed is thete much difference, also how does the leon cope in putting power down
I'm on the look out for a new car and the cupra 300 appeals to me Cause it's different, which do people think is better out of the 300 and the golf r??
I’m currently looking for a car around 18k. Debating the Cupra 290. Needs to be 5 door with kids on the way! I do like 335i maintenance worries me. Would you say the Cupra 300 is worth the extra couple grand?
Got the EA888 engine in our Skoda Octavia vRS, although it's only pushing out around 220 bhp. Is there much different between said engine and that on the Cupra's and GTis?
